The montane and premontane forests extend along the Andes mountains, presenting different ecosystems and a great diversity of species of wild flora and fauna. The objective of this research was to evaluate the tree diversity and the floristic composition in six permanent plots of one hectare, located in the montane and premontane strata along an altitudinal gradient between 800 and 3000 masl, in the province of Chanchamayo, in forests of Central Peru. In the field phase, all trees with a DBH (diameter at breast height) greater than or equal to 10 cm were evaluated. Values of 425 to 696 individuals per hectare, and of 45 to 146 species per hectare were recorded in the six plots. The results of the floristic composition in the plots located in the montane forests (1500 to 3000 masl), indicated that the most important families overall i...

Natural Protected Areas of Peru conserve representative samples of biodiversity and contribute to the sustainable development of the country. The present research is a review article that aimed to document the information obtained on the main characteristics and the diversity of wild flora and fauna of three Natural Protected Areas (NPAs) that are located within the metropolitan area of the provinces of Lima and Callao, on the central coast of Peru. The Natural Protected Areas of Metro- politan Lima (capital of Peru) were studied as the Regional Conservation Area “Sistema de Lomas de Lima” (coastal hills ecosystem) and the Wildlife Refuge “Los Pantanos de Villa” (coastal wetland ecosystem), while the Constitutional Province of Callao studied the Regional Conservation Area “Humedales de Ventanilla” (coastal wetland ecosystem). For this purpose, a review of bibliogra- phic mate...

The objective of this study was to evaluate the "Caja de Agua" urban forest of 3.06 ha located in the district of San Juan Lurigancho in the province of Lima, Peru, using the i-Tree Eco and i-Tree Canopy programs. A forest census was conducted in the study area in which all tree and arborescent individuals with a diameter at breast height (DBH) greater than 2.5 cm at 1.30 m from the ground were measured. In total, 765 individuals were recorded, grouped into 43 species, 40 genera and 22 botanical families. With the i-Tree Eco program, the environmental services provided by the "Caja de Agua" trees were estimated, which were the elimination of 256.9 kg/year of air pollutants (CO, O3, SO2, NO2, PM2.5 and PM10), the annual capture of 16.44 metric tons of carbon, the storage of 172 metric tons of carbon and the production of 43.83 metric tons of oxygen per year. It was determined that the for...

Montane forests provide ecosystem services such as the conservation of a high diversity of wild flora and fauna, soil protection and water supply, and are ecosystems threatened by anthropogenic activities such as land use change. In the present investigation we analyzed the tree diversity, floristic composition and structure within a permanent plot of one hectare named Parcela Oxapampa Bosque Cumbre (P-OXA-02) in an area of montane cloud forest in the Central Forest of Peru. This plot was established at 2286 meters above sea level (masl) in an area of late secondary forest of the Centro de Capacitación en Conservación y Desarrollo Sostenible - CDS, Biological Station of the Centro Neotropical de Entrenamiento en Humedales - CNEH, province of Oxapampa, department of Pasco, Peru. Within the plot were evaluated all individuals of arboreal size with diameter at breast height (DBH) equal to...

The study of forestry dynamics helps us to see the trends of forests in the future. In this research, forest dynamics was evaluated based on mortality and recruitment in two permanent plots located in premontane forests between 800 and 1500 masl in the province of Satipo, in the department of Junín, in the Central Forest of Peru. The Santa Teresa Primary Forest Plot (P-SPI) is located in a primary forest and recorded an initial population of 698 tree individuals, it was remeasured after an intercensal period of 5 years, registering 80 dead individuals, 77 recruits, with a final population of 695 trees and presented an annual mortality rate of 2,43% and an annual recruitment rate of 2,35%. While the Santa Teresa Late Secondary Forest Plot (P-SST) located in a late secondary forest had an initial population of 832 trees, it was remeasured after an intercensal period of 8 years, registerin...

The objective of this study was to evaluate a tree planting campaign in the districts of Chorrillos, Lurin, Pachacamac, Punta Negra, San Juan de Miraflores, Santa Maria del Mar, Villa El Salvador and Villa Maria del Triunfo, located in the southern area of Metropolitan Lima, Peru. For this pur[1]pose, the survival rate of the tree individuals was assessed three months after being planted under the “Trees for Lima” program by the “Parks Service” (SERPAR). The goal was to determine the most suitable tree species for future afforestation projects according to their adaptability to different urban areas and response to maintenance efforts since initial establishment. The species with the highest number of planted individuals were “molle costeño” (Schinus terebinthifolia Raddi), “papelillo” (Koelreuteria paniculata Laxm.), “tipa” [Tipuana tipu (Benth.) Kuntze], “fresno...

Pinus tecunumanii F. Schwerdtf. ex Eguiluz & J.P.
