The genus Cedrela contains timber species of great economic value that are ecologically and so- cially important in neotropical ecosystems. Phenological studies of Cedrela species have not been reported in the central Peruvian rainforest. The objective of this research was to preliminarily re- cord the phenological behavior of five sympatric species of the genus Cedrela in the Chanchamayo Valley (Junín), central Peru. The species evaluated were Cedrela angustifolia Moc. & Sessé ex DC., domatifolia W.Palacios, C. fissilis Vell., C. montana Turcz. and C. odorata L. Three phenophases were documented monthly: tender structures (budding), maturity and overmaturity (senescence) throughout one year (2021-2022) relating them to the dry and rainy seasons, and herbarium spe- cimens. Senescence and leaf fall occurred in the rainy (October to April) and dry (May to Septem- ber) seasons, flowe...

Natural Protected Areas of Peru conserve representative samples of biodiversity and contribute to the sustainable development of the country. The present research is a review article that aimed to document the information obtained on the main characteristics and the diversity of wild flora and fauna of three Natural Protected Areas (NPAs) that are located within the metropolitan area of the provinces of Lima and Callao, on the central coast of Peru. The Natural Protected Areas of Metro- politan Lima (capital of Peru) were studied as the Regional Conservation Area “Sistema de Lomas de Lima” (coastal hills ecosystem) and the Wildlife Refuge “Los Pantanos de Villa” (coastal wetland ecosystem), while the Constitutional Province of Callao studied the Regional Conservation Area “Humedales de Ventanilla” (coastal wetland ecosystem). For this purpose, a review of bibliogra- phic mate...

A new record of Cedrela domatifolia W. Palacios is presented in Chanchamayo Valley, department of Junin, which adds to 11 the number of Cedrela (Meliaceae) species recorded in Peru. The most notorious vegetative character of the species are the prominent domatia in the axils of the secondary nerves of blades. At floral characters, the petals are red to fuchsia, an uncommon feature in the genus.

The montane and premontane forests extend along the Andes mountains, presenting different ecosystems and a great diversity of species of wild flora and fauna. The objective of this research was to evaluate the tree diversity and the floristic composition in six permanent plots of one hectare, located in the montane and premontane strata along an altitudinal gradient between 800 and 3000 masl, in the province of Chanchamayo, in forests of Central Peru. In the field phase, all trees with a DBH (diameter at breast height) greater than or equal to 10 cm were evaluated. Values of 425 to 696 individuals per hectare, and of 45 to 146 species per hectare were recorded in the six plots. The results of the floristic composition in the plots located in the montane forests (1500 to 3000 masl), indicated that the most important families overall i...

The objective of this study was to evaluate the woody flora of the Zárate Forest Reserved Zone (ZRBZ). The methodology consisted of intensive botanical collections in two areas of the ZRBZ. We identified 14 botanical species distributed in the families Asteraceae, Berberidaceae, Rosaceae, Solanaceae, Escalloniaceae, Myrtaceae, Araliaceae, Verbenaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Scrophulariaceae y Loranthaceae. Two species are identified as endemic. According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), one species is in the Near Threatened (NT) category. According to national legislation (Supreme Decree 043-2006-AG), one species is Critically Endangered (CR) and two species are Vulnerable (Vu). Likewise, it was found that the woody flora identified has various uses such as timber, medicinal and agroforestry, among the most important ones. Finally, it is concluded that it is necessa...
