In this work, we study the conditions in which a reverberant field is created by varying the number and locations of multiple mechanical sources, and then fitting axial and lateral autocorrelation profiles to theoretical models. Numerical simulation showed that at least 60 incident plane waves were necessary to generate a R-SWF. The general trend is that by applying more incident waves, the coefficient of determination improves and the error decreases. We report a bias error lower than 6% in the mean shear wave speed (pmb{C}{s}). Phantom experiments showed a similar tendency. Moreover, we demonstrated that the creation of a R-SWF based on the superposition of incident plane waves was possible. At least three vibration sources located at the top of the phantom surface were necessary to measure an average pmb{C}{s} with an error less than 9%. © 2020 IEEE.

The new genus Parapraocis (Pimeliinae: Praociini) is described to accommodate three species from the northern Peruvian coast previously placed in the genus Praocis Eschscholtz: Parapraocis vagecostata (Fairmaire, 1902) n. comb. (type species), Parapraocis rossi (Kulzer, 1958) n. comb., and Parapraocis fumaria (Kulzer, 1966) n. comb. Diagnosis, description and illustrations of external morphology, male and female genitalia, and habitus photographs for two of its species are presented. A discussion on the raising of this new genus as well as homological structures in the female genitalia of the Praociini are also included. © Flores, G.E. & Giraldo A.E.-.

A new species of Stenosini (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae: Pimeliinae), Schizaraeus fouquei sp. nov. is described from southern Andes of Peru: Apurímac and Cusco regions. Prior to this study, Schizaraeus Kulzer, 1955 was monotypic with one species, S. acuticosta Kulzer, 1955 from Catamarca Province in Argentina. We present habitus photographs of both species, scanning electron micrographs of external morphology of the new species, a distribution map, and a comparison of the characters of both species of the genus. © 2020 The Authors.

Quantifying the local stiffness of muscular tissue can be a useful tool for the improvement of diagnosis, treatment or monitoring of muscle abnormality-related diseases. Shear wave elastography techniques provide information about tissue stiffness by measuring the shear wave speed (SWS). Recently, a new framework involving the generation of a reverberant shear wave field that propagates in all directions within the medium was proposed. The aim of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of Reverberant Shear Wave Elastography (R-SWE) for the in vivo assessment of the viscoelastic properties of skeletal muscle, using the biceps brachii. The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of toxoplasmosis (Toxoplasma gondii) in an alpaca farm in the southern part of Peru. Blood samples of 278 alpacas (68 male and 210 females) of different ages were collected and analyzed using the indirect immunofluorescense test. The prevalence was 34.5% (CI0.95 = 28.9 ? p ? 40.1%). The prevalence was significantly affected (p<0.05) by sex (males: 3.0; females: 44.8%) and age (?3 years = 16.7; > 3 years = 40.8).

La toxoplasmosis producida por el Toxoplasma gondii constituye la zoonosis parasitaria más frecuente. Se estima que el 60% de personas son reactoras a esta parasitosis a nivel mundial (Amato Neto et al., 1995). La ocurrencia de toxoplasmosis ha estado mayormente ligada a cuadros de carácter subclínico, y el interés de esta parasitosis estaba circunscrita a problemas de mortalidad neonatal y abortos, siendo muy baja la frecuencia de casos clínicos (Frenkel, 1971; Scott, 1978); sin embargo, con el advenimiento del Síndrome de Inmunodeficiencia Adquirida (SIDA), esta protozoonosis se ha convertido en motivo de preocupación por parte de las autoridades sanitarias internacionales de salud.

Con datos hidrográficos de dos prospecciones, realizadas en marzo y setiembre 2014, se describe la hidrografía y estratificación en la bahía de Miraflores (BM) asociadas a condiciones cálidas y frías en ambos periodos. En marzo se presentó una condición estratificada y cálida, con máximos valores de frecuencia de Brunt Väisälä (FBV) y de vorticidad potencial (VP); asimismo la termoclina, haloclina y picnoclina fueron pronunciadas, debido principalmente a la mayor radiación solar recibida. En setiembre, la columna de agua fue más homogénea y fría con presencia de una capa de mezcla débil y somera. La distribución de la temperatura potencial, salinidad y densidad potencial tuvo una relación directa con la estacionalidad y con la configuración de la bahía en el aspecto espacial. El carachi amarillo (Orestiasluteus) es un recurso pesquero de importancia para la alimentación y economía local. El objetivo fue analizar la biología, pesquería y estado poblacional del carachi amarillo, así como los datos ambientales en el lago Titicaca. En los aspectos biológicos, se contó con información del Instituto del Mar del Perú (Imarpe) del 2008 al 2018. Se evaluaron 42.056 ejemplares (59 % hembras) para la determinación de la época reproductiva (IGS), factor de condición (FC) y estimación de la talla media de madurez sexual (L50). Los parámetros de crecimiento y mortalidad se calcularon en base a las tallas obtenidas durante la pesca comercial. El rango de talla varió de 4,0 a 18,5 cm LT, con media entre 11,0 y 11,8 cm de LT y fue inferior a la talla media de captura (TMC).
