The effect of a single dose bacterin against Mycoplasma hyopnemoniae on body weight gain, antibody titers, and degree of lung lesions in piglets from non-vaccinated dams reared in a pig farm with history of mycoplasmosis was evaluated. A total of 60 piglets of both sexes were distributed in a vaccinated and a control group. The bacterin was applied at 6 weeks of age. The frequency of seropositive animals and the antibody titers against M. hyopnemoniae were determined using serum samples collected at 3, 6, 10, 12, 16, and 21 weeks of age. Body weight gain (g/day) was calculated from body weight at weaning (19 days) and at slaughter (140 days).Antibody levelswere significantly higher at 10 and 13 weeks (p<0.05) in the vaccinated group, but similar from week 16 onwards, possibly due to the natural infection process in the control group. The level of lung lesions and number of affected an...

Failure to deliver orders because of low production capacity is one of the main problems faced by companies in the plastics sector. This has repercussions, creating customer dissatisfaction and directly affecting profits by increasing production costs. Among the main causes of these problems is production downtime, which is caused by high set-up times and machine failures during the production process. To solve these problems, a lean manufacturing model is proposed that includes 5S, SMED (Single Minute Exchange of Die), TPM (Total Productive Maintenance), and Jidoka tools. This model was validated in a company dedicated to the production of plastics by injection moulding, which resulted in an increase in OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) of 13 per cent and a reduction in set-up times of 48 per cent.

We study a system formed by M dimers through half-filled two-site Hubbard model, with two electrons. Our approach use the third version of Nonextensive Statistical Mechanics as tool for calculating thermodynamic and magnetic parameters such as entropy, internal energy, magnetization and specific heat. In the computer simulations, we vary the q entropic index values between 1 and 2, such that, q = 1.0, 1.4, 1.7 and 2.0. These values are interesting to study small magnetic systems. We find the critical temperature regions in simulations with the simple Hubbard model, i.e. without the intersite interaction. For other side, adding this additional term, we notice an enlargement and shifting of the thermodynamic parameters comparing with the obtained from simple Hubbard model; even more, we found in some cases the absence of the critical temperature regions.

In copper oxide superconductor materials the internal charge transference between the superconducting planes of CuO2 and the charge reservoir blocks, it is a key factor that controls the superconducting critical temperature. The superconducting planes of CuO2 are not planes in a strict sense, the position of the Cu(2) atom and the O(2) and O(3) oxygen atoms are not lying in a same plane, the change of its positions are closely related to atomic replacements in the superconducting planes of CuO2 or in the charge reservoir blocks. Therefore, we correlates the substitutions effects in the canonical unit cell of YBa2Cu3O7 with regard to length and angle bond variation of copper and oxygen atoms with the superconducting critical temperature obtained by Rietveld refinement of X-ray diffraction patterns in polycrystalline powder samples, such as: SmBa2Cu3O7, [Y0,90,Pr0,10]Ba2Cu3O7, [Ca,La]Ba2Cu...

Footwear imports have been increasing in recent years and have radically affected the profitability of the footwear sector, especially those from China. This situation has particularly affected SMEs in this sector, as they lack sophistication with respect to the quality of their products and the lack of quality assurance strategies. In Peru, SMEs represent a great importance for its economy, since approximately 99.5% of its companies are SMEs. Specifically, SMEs in the footwear sector generate 57,000 direct jobs and contribute 1.2% of the industrial GDP. Therefore, there is a need for research to ensure the quality of the footwear produced by SMEs in order to make them more competitive in the market. This through a model of quality assurance by combining the tools of quality standardization and motivation ERC. This is expected to reduce the rate of defective production of SMEs in the foo...

Today, the importance of maintaining quality standards in any business is fundamental to the success of the business, so having engineering tools helps a lot to integrate optimal quality into products and services. For its part, the retail store model provides great support to the commercial sector, but it presents many problems when it comes to maintaining ideal quality standards due to the versatility of its processes and products. This article seeks to establish a model that allows retailers to adapt to the use of Lean tools that improve the quality of service, reduce waste and increase the effectiveness of work. For this purpose, quality tools are integrated and the PMBOK guideline is used as a guide in a convenience store, also counting on the support of the organization for the validation of the proposal.

The case study is a company that produces and sells plastic containers. Through a production time assessment, the low availability of injection machines was identified as the mam problem. The availability rate for these machines was set at 80.19%, which represented a relevant issue since the worldwide standard is 90%. These low availability rates are mainly due to machine breakdowns, representing 9.87% in lost revenue for the company. To improve machine availability, this study proposed an improvement model combining Lean Manufacturing tools with Kaizen, which refers to continuous process improvement. The model is also integrated with Ergonomics concepts aimed at improving working conditions for operators. Hence, if improvements are achieved regarding human capital, machine availability will also improve. Within this context, the proposed model was piloted at the company, increasing mach...

The growth of sanitary products shipped through cold logistics, in recent years, has been sustainable and significant. This increase brings with it challenges aimed at maintaining the products in the established temperature ranges which can assure and keep their temperature in optimal levels so that quality can be kept as this might affect the health of customers. The mismanagement deficiencies of the cold chain affect the profitability of the companies in the chemicalpharmaceutical sector, due to the returns caused by the delivery of low-quality products. In this context, this research proposes a solution that includes the application of three tools: Jidoka, the MRP II planning system, and the Standardization of Work to reduce the level of returns. The proposal is based on the improvement of the packaging process, by applying new inventory policies, optimal mechanisms for the management...

This work is concerned about the lithium-nickel phosphate, LiNiPO4, a very important magneticelectric material due to its promising applications to tailor the next-generation lithium-nickel batteries. In the Hamiltonian operator, it is considered the interactions of Ni2+, the unique magnetic ion in the phosphate. Specifically, it is taken into account the Heisenberg interactions along with the single-ion anisotropy term. Furthermore, the utilization of the Holstein-Primakoff formalism leads to spin-wave scattering. To investigate the spin-wave intensities, we utilize the nonextensive probability distribution what originates some bulges in the curves of the intensities.

In the Andean regions, low temperatures (5 to −25 °C) combined with the wind effect give the sensation of extreme cold. Besides, in the rural areas, dwelling structures are very rudimentary, being based on adobe walls and galvanized steel corrugated roofs. The combination of weather issues and construction without thermal insulation considerations put people in extreme living conditions. Using local and cheap natural fibers as thermal insulation is a great alternative especially to upgrade/refurbish rudimentary constructions. In areas above 3000 m over sea level, natural fibers are vast and cheap (∼0.15 USD/kg), especially fibers named “Ichu”. In this study thermal properties of natural fibers were characterized according to the ASTM C177. Results show that the thermal conductivity varies from 0.047 to 0.113 W/m K, for mats with unidirectional oriented fibers, being fine Ichu wh...

The graphene, since 2004, had show some exceptional mechanical, thermal and electronic properties in se- veral configurations such as optical modulators, transistors, gas detectors, electrocromic devices, electrodes, thermal dissipaters and integrated circuits. There is an inconvenient in the atom by atom manipulation for obtain the specific properties for each function in each proposed device. We account between them, the disorder in the graphene structure and the intercalation of impurities in the hexagonal structure and the imperfections of the substrate that incorporate ripples in the graphene structure. Nevertheless, these do not modify the cones of the valence and conduction bands. The Dirac point remains. Other options has been suggested to induce a gap between the K and K′ symmetry points where lay the Dirac points in which converge the two charge carrier cones, electrons and h...

The climatic origin of astronomically induced sedimentary cycles in the Mediterranean and adjacent areas during the late Neogene and Quaternary remains puzzling; as cycles have been linked to concomitant but seasonally opposite changes in African summer monsoon precipitation (Eastern Mediterranean sapropels) and Atlantic regulated winter-precipitation (carbonate cycles on the Atlantic side of the Mediterranean). Particularly, little is known about the cyclic sedimentation on orbital time scales in the Western Mediterranean, with the prime exception of the Messinian sapropels from the Sorbas basin (southern Spain). Here we show that regular alternations in Pliocene downhole logs from the industrial drill-site Muchamiel-1, located along the Balearic Promontory in the Western Mediterranean, are related to eccentricity (bundles) and to obliquity and precession cycles (basic meter-scale alter...

An agroforestry system (SAF) is characterized by having a diversity of components, such as timber and non-timber forest species and crops, pastures, or a livestock production system. This diversity of components in the system reduces the intensity of diseases, e.g. foliar diseases. This study aimed to detect the fungal microorganisms associated with the leaf spots of plant species that are part of the agroforestry production systems of the Peruvian farmers from Yurimaguas and to determine the level of incidence of the leaf spots in the systems of agroforestry production. Different land cropping systems were implemented in the farms, such as palm (Bactris gasipaes) to produce palm hearts, cocoa (Theobroma cacao), and plantain (Mussa sp.). Also, silvopastoral systems with fast and slow growing timber species and cattle with pastures for grazing and reforestation in areas of secondary fores...
