Obesity has become a growing global epidemic, demanding effective solutions for its management. Bariatric-metabolic surgery is currently the best therapeutic option for patients with morbid obesity and associated comorbidities. This review article addresses the importance of endoscopy in the preoperative and postoperative evaluation, as well as in the detection and management of complications associated with bariatric surgery.

Background: Prioritization of criteria have been developed to reduce the increased demand. The European Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy developed an online program (EPAGE II). The aim of this study is to evaluate the appropriateness of the colonoscopy indication according to the EPAGE II criteria and correlate it with the endoscopic findings. Materials and Methods: Retrospective and analytical study that included all colonoscopies performed in the period March 2018 - March 2019. Colonoscopies with insufficient preparation and missing data, were excluded. They were categorized into having appropriate, inappropriate and uncertain indication, according to EPAGE II criteria. Introduction and aim: Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) manifests as a spectrum of clinical presentations that carries morbidity and mortality. Patients with chronic liver disease (CLD), particularly hospitalized, are at high risk for developing DILI. We aimed to investigate the use of potentially hepatotoxic drugs (PHD) in patients with CLD in a tertiary university hospital. Materials and methods: Adult (≥ 18 years-old) with CLD admitted to the hospital from January 2016 to December 2018 were evaluated regarding PHD, assessing the risk of DILI and liver enzymes behavior after exposure. Results: From 931 hospitalized patients with CLD, 291 (31.3%) were exposed to hepatotoxic drugs during their hospitalization. Of those, 244 (83.8%) were cirrhotic. Introducción: La endoscopia juega un papel fundamental en la enfermedad inflamatoria intestinal (EII), y se hace esencial en el diagnóstico, monitoreo del tratamiento, y detección y manejo de complicaciones. Materiales y métodos: la Organización Panamericana de Crohn y Colitis (PANCCO) la Sociedad Interamericana de endoscopia (SIED) designó 22 expertos latinoamericanos en EII para desarrollar un estudio de consenso utilizando el método Delphi modificado, basado utilizando la mejor evidencia disponible. Un grupo de trabajo de 22 miembros de 9 países, se identificaron 15 temas y formularon 98 declaraciones, quienes participaron en 2 rondas de votación. Introduction: Endoscopy plays a fundamental role in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and becomes essential in diagnosis, treatment monitoring, and detection and management of complications. Materials and methods: The Pan American Crohn's and Colitis Organization (PANCCO) and the Inter-American Society of Endoscopy (SIED) appointed 22 Latin American experts in IBD to develop a consensus study using the modified Delphi method, based on the best available evidence. A working group of 22 members from 9 countries identified 15 topics and formulated 98 statements, who participated in 2 rounds of voting.
