This study assesses the effectiveness of programs aimed at preventing and legally addressing sexual violence in Ecuadorian educational institutions. A quantitative and descriptive approach is employed, using surveys to collect data from parents whose children have been victims of sexual violence. The results indicate that legal assistance programs increase formal reports and provide emotional support to victims. The need for comprehensive programs is emphasized, and improvements in preventive measures and legal procedures are proposed. The study underscores the importance of legal counseling in combating sexual violence in educational contexts in Ecuador.

This study evaluated the online implementation of a positive psychological intervention for retirees during the COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil. A mixed longitudinal design with pre-post-intervention and implementation process evaluation was used. Thirty convenience retirees aged between 52-87 years participated (M=65.13; SD=9.22). The instruments were: a sociodemographic questionnaire, visual analog scale, program and sessions’ evaluation form, and moderator’s field diary. Participants’ mood improved after the themes: values and self-care, optimism, empathy, meaning of life, and work. The best evaluated relaxation technique involved elements of Mindfulness and the most used contents were Gratitude and Empathy. There were difficulties in using technologies (access to the online room, connection instability, noise from the environment) and the non-private domestic context for the sessio...

Differently from other regions in the Planet, since 2010, in Latin America textual programming language (Rhinoscripting) is being replaced by its visual equivalent (Grasshopper). This is a consequence of our preference for an interactive platform, and because our design problems are not as complex, so we aim to control geometrical problems or aspects belonging to an product scale instead of an architectural one. Problems emerging when creating code could be improved by modifying and reusing existing solutions as a starting point, since learning would not be centered in the object but in the process of creating it, using a suitable instrument.

Neutrino interaction events in the MINERνA detector are visually represented with a web-based tool called Arachne. Data are retrieved from a central server via AJAX, and client-side JavaScript draws images into the users browser window using the draft HTML 5 "standard". These technologies allow neutrino interactions to be viewed by anyone with a web browser, allowing for easy hand-scanning of particle interactions. Arachne has been used in MINERνA to evaluate neutrino data in a prototype detector, to tune reconstruction algorithms, and for public outreach and education. © 2012 Published by Elsevier B.V.

This article presents an experience carried out by the faculty of the third year of the Infant Education degree at the Ramon Llull University in Barcelona (Spain). A proposal for multidisciplinary intervention that joins two modules: one for arts (musical, corporal, visual, and plastic education) and another for sciences (mathematics, and experimental and social sciences). The intervention stems from a generating idea—the book “Alice in Wonderland”—which allows for connections between the contents of the modules, involves co-teaching, multidisciplinary work, and shared evaluation experiences. The aim of the study is to get to know the perception of the participating faculty about the changes in the didactic components involved in the experience. For data collection, semi-structured interviews were carried out at three moments of the process and a discussion group at the end. The ...

Background: There are almost 12 million children in Peru, and no studies regarding the prevalence of ametropia or amblyopia in school children have ever been reported.Objetives: To determine the epidemiologic characteristics and current therapy strategies for severe ametropia and amblyopia in students from limited-resource families in Southern Lima, Peru.Material and methods: A significant sample representative of 120,000 children from 42 schools in five districts of Southern Lima was assessed. The study was performed in three stages. The first one was a cross-sectional and observational survey, assessing visual acuity and performing refraction testing in 12,364 students. The second stage consisted in follow-up assessments in students with moderate and severe ametropy, aiming to confirm their ametropy degree and its respective cyclopegic refraction. The third stage detecte...

Objectives: To correlate visually estimated blood loss (vEBL) with calculated estimated blood loss (cEBL) during cesarean delivery in nulliparous women. Design: correlation retrospective study. Setting: Cayetano Heredia National Hospital, Lima, Peru. Participants: Nulliparous women subjected to cesarean section. Interventions: Medical records of 160 nulliparous women atended for cesarean deliveries at term during 2011 were reviewed. Data were statically analyzed with STATA V10.1 for Windows program. Main outcome measures: Blood loss. Results: Median vEBL and cEBL were respectively 500 mL (500–600 mL) and 421.4 mL (319.85–559.65 mL) with statistical significant difference, p < 0.001. For cEBL 1 000 mL median was 1 207.80 mL (1 039.60–1 419.00 mL) and vEBL median was 500 mL (500–600 mL) with statistical significant difference, p < 0.001. Hematocrit descended 3% (3–4%).
