Purple corn (Zea mays L.) is a superfood native to Peru, highly regarded for its functional properties and commonly used in the preparation of traditional beverages and desserts, such as chicha morada and mazamorra morada. Following processing, the corn cobs remaining as a byproduct retain significant amounts of bioactive compounds with potential for utilization. This study proposes their use as a primary component in the production of teas. To ensure product safety, the moisture content, total ash, and counts of enterobacteria and aflatoxins in the raw materials were first evaluated. Fourteen formulations were developed, varying in the proportions of corn cobs, quince, stevia, cinnamon, and cloves, as well as extraction times (5 and 10 minutes at 100 °C) with hot water. Two rapid sensory evaluation methods using consumer panels were applied sequentially: Flash Profile (FP) and Check-...

In this paper, we have performed a closed-form calculation of the radiation pattern of a base station antenna by using Ad Hoc Bessel-Fourier expansion. Once the coordinates system is fixed, we proceed to derived the magnetic potential vector underlining the complex part which is subsequently expanded in a Bessel-Fourier series. Since the radiation intensity is proportional to the square of the polar component of electric field, we used the well-known relation vec{E} \approx \vec{\nabla}\times \vec{\nabla} \times \vec{A} It gives capabilities to apply antenna data to the resulting closed-form expression for obtaining numerical estimations of the possible exposure levels. For this end, we measured the specific absorption radiation (SAR) to evaluate and discard possible effects of contamination by antenna radiation in the vicinity of the emission source. For a source of 2.0 GHz and 1.5 Vm-1...

Nowadays, the impacts of climate change are harming many countries around the world. For this reason, the scientific community is interested in improving methods to forecast weather events, so it is possible to avoid people from being injured. One important thing in the development of time series forecasting methods is to consider the set of values over time that facilitates the prediction of future value. In this sense, we propose a new feature vector based on the correlation and autocorrelation functions. These measures reflect how the observations of a time series are related to each other. Then, univariate forecasting is performed using Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) deep neural network. Finally, we compared the new model with linear and non-linear models. Reported results exhibit that MLP and LSTM models using the proposed feature vector, they show pro...

The respiratory metabolism of fruits is affected by multiple internal (product) and external (environmental) factors that often interact with each other. Among the external factors that have the greatest influence on respiration are temperature, air composition, moisture content and illumination. The aim of this paper is to elucidate the influence of environmental factors on the respiration rate of peach fruits based on transfer models obtained by dynamic regression modelling (ARIMAX). The fitted ARIMA models met the criteria of parsimony and white noise in residuals. The estimated coefficients of each model were statistically significant under the Durbin-Watson (DW), Akaike (AIC) and Schwarz (SBC) criteria. Transfer functions revealed 0.15% and 1.9% increase, and 0.001% decrease in the respiration rate of the peach fruit for each unit of change in temperature, relative humidity and illu...

In modern industry, electric motors are essential components in a wide range of applications, from manufacturing production to transportation and power generation. These motors are critical in industrial machinery and equipment, and their proper functioning is crucial for maintaining operational efficiency and productivity. However, motors are susceptible to various types of faults that can be costly in terms of downtime, production loss, and repair expenses. Early detection of these faults is essential to prevent unscheduled shutdowns, reduce maintenance costs, and avoid workplace accidents. This paper proposes a low-cost, real-time fault detection system for motors placed on the Non-Drive End based on neural networks, aimed at improving operational efficiency and reducing maintenance costs in the industry.

In this work, maximum flows observed in the Paranapanema river basin are modeled by a mixture of two GEV distributions whose components correspond to the summer and winter subpopulations. The nonlinear discriminant function allowed to confirm the assumption of mixture model. The proposed model is then used to determine probabilities of exceedance and return periods associated with extreme flows, which are of fundamental importance for hydraulic projects. The results show significant differences when a mixture model is used and therefore an approach more coherent with the observed data.

The real-time prediction and estimation of the spread of diseases, such as COVID-19 is of paramount importance as evidenced by the recent pandemic. This work is concerned with the distributed parameter estimation of the time–space propagation of such diseases using a diffusion–reaction epidemiological model of the susceptible–exposed–infected–recovered (SEIR) type. State estimation is based on continuous measurements of the number of infections and deaths per unit of time and of the host spatial domain. The observer design method is based on positive definite matrices to parameterize a class of Lyapunov functionals, in order to stabilize the estimation error dynamics. Thus, the stability conditions can be expressed as a set of matrix inequality constraints which can be solved numerically using sum of squares (SOS) and standard semi-definite programming (SDP) tools. The observer...

The contamination of water bodies by heavy metals is a critical problem for human health and ecosystems, and it can bioaccumulate in organisms to toxic levels and even lead to the living being’s death. This research aimed to synthesize and characterize a biopolymer with the capacity to remove heavy metals in wastewater, elaborated from potato starch, glycerin, and nopal mucilage. Native potato starch of the Allcca sipas variety was extracted by conventional methods; the mucilage was extracted with ethanol. Four formulations of biopolymers were synthesized at 60 and 70 °C. The solubility, structural characteristics, and adsorption capacity of heavy metals were evaluated. Starch, mucilage, and biopolymers presented predominant functional groups as -OH, -C-O-, -NH-, -C-H-, -C-OH determined by FTIR, allowing to remove up to 50.18% of Al, 56.81% of As, 35.95% of Cr, 37.43% of Hg and 73.22%...

Over the time, the development of the digital design has increased dramatically and nowadays many different circuits and systems are designed for multiple purposes in short time lapses. However, this development has not been based only in the enhancement of the design tools, but also in the improvement of the verification tools, due to the outstanding role of the verification process that certifies the adequate performance and the fulfillment of the requirements. In the verification industry, robust methodologies such as the Universal Verification Methodology (UVM) are used, an example of this is [1], but they have not been implemented yet in countries such as Peru and they seem inconvenient for educational purposes. This research propose an alternative methodology for the verification process of designs at the industry scale with a modular structure that contributes to the development o...

The Total Solar Irradiance (TSI) is the total amount of solar energy present per square unit every moment beyond the atmosphere, so it's changing every time along the year, although for many practical purposes its average is taken and has been called: The Solar Constant (1367 W/m2). In this paper, the historical efforts made to quantifcate the TSI are reviewed, the latest advances in this matter are presented and a new method to calculate its monthly average based on the SunSpot Number is proposed to apporach to its value as close as 0.05. W/m2 (RMS = 0.002).

In the competition of the lighting market, LED technology has stood out for excellent characteristics, one of which is the possibility of dimming, compared to other technologies. The dimming capacity allows to find the comfort zone with respect to two parameters, illuminance and correlated colour temperature (CCT). The present work provides a methodology to find comfort with respect to two variables, the level of illumination and the CCT. A controller with a simple structure, supported by Arduino, is proposed to control the above-mentioned variables of LEDs. The LEDs are located on a tape attached to a heat sink. In addition, the use of a light box as an environment for analysis is proposed. The design of this cubicle is based on literature. The controller has the possibility to regulate 12 different channels and the linearity between the PWM output and the illuminance was verified. The ...
