Introduction: Academic self-efficacy drives achievement and student well-being; however, brief, psychometrically rigorous measures tailored to complex university courses remain scarce. Existing long‑form scales, although thorough, are often impractical for time-constrained research and classroom diagnostics. Objective: to develop and validate the five‑item Self‑Efficacy Scale in Academic Mastery (SSAM). Method: Items rooted in the Social Learning Theory were reviewed by experts (n=6). Psychometric testing used two university samples (N₁ = 180, N₂ = 742) plus the PHQ‑4. Results: Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses supported a unidimensional structure with high reliability (α=.91; ω=.92) and good fit (CFI/TLI>.90; RMSEA/SRMR<.08). The scale showed configural, metric, and scalar invariance across the sex and academic status groups. Graded Response Model paramete...

In Mexico, a high percentage of young people experience symptoms of generalized anxiety, which are associated with difficulties in executive functions (EF). However, previous studies have shown inconsistent results, as they often rely solely on either objective or subjective measures. Therefore, this study focused on analyzing the relationship between generalized anxiety and EF using both a neuropsychological battery and a self-report questionnaire, in order to provide a more comprehensive understanding of cognitive functioning in adolescents. A quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional, correlational, and explanatory design was employed. The sample consisted of 96 adolescents between 12 and 15 years old from the state of Puebla, Mexico. A total of 10.41% of participants presented severe symptoms of generalized anxiety. A significant relationship was found between anxiety and one o...

Academic self-efficacy is a powerful predictor of academic success, yet there are several factors that predispose it. Because of this, an explanatory model is proposed using the self-regulation of academic activities, positive affection, and personality. Hierarchical multiple linear regression was used to support the predictive proposal of the model. The Specific Perceived Self-Efficacy Scale of Academic Situations, The Scale of Positive and Negative Experience, Subscale Self-Regulation of Activities of the Academic Procrastination Scale, and Mini International Personality Item Pool (MINI-IPIP) were used. High correlations were obtained in the self-regulation of activities, positive affection, and personality (extraversion, concientousness and openness to experience) to academic self-efficacy. The final predictive model explained 30.1% of the total variance of academic self-efficacy. In ...

The purpose of this instrumental study was to show how to conduct an RStudio process to obtain a content validity visual representation through the alluvial function of the ggplot2 package to Condom Use Self-Efficacy Scale (This paper explains the stages to analyze content validity using a visual representation of an interrater agreement and item – factor belonging and focused mainly on qualitative aspects to evaluate the judge’s behavior and items’ weight. Furthermore, the paper discusses classical criteria to obtain content validity and its representation. The visual representation used shows high relevance to present the qualitative data associated with the content validity analysis since it allows to visualize in a differential way the weight of the dimensions in each item, the content validity coefficient in the set of dimensions, and the behavior of the judges in the overall ...

Introduction: To establish better approaches to alcoholism, this scale was developed with a focus on cognitive-behavioral aspects. Objective: Considering alcoholism as an issue that requires self-efficacy attention, the scale is designed to guide the psychotherapist in the behavioral change process of the alcoholic patient. Method: This psychometric research, with a non-experimental mixed-method descriptive design, is delineated by a non-probabilistic sampling method that employs structural equation modeling for an infinite sample. Using statistical software, the Aiken's V was obtained from seven expert judges, and 20 items were considered in the exploratory factor analysis for factor loadings (two factors) and factorial weights (λ = 0.62 - λ = 0.94), with Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin and Bartlett's test of sphericity results (KMO = 0.96, p < 0.01). Results: ...

Relationship between academic self-concept, causal attribution for success and raílure, and academic achievement in pre-adolescents. This study shows the relationship between the variables mentioned above in 284 primary school students in Lima (5"' aI)d 6"' grades). The Self Description Questionnaire (SDQ-I) and the Sydney Attribution Scale (SAS) were applied with a previous validation process. Mathematics and Language final grades were assumed as academic achievement indicators. SAS exploratory factorial analysis showed five factors, tbree of them demonstrated that children do not discriminate between effort and ability. About SDQ, results confirmed that children can differentiate between self-concept dimensions. Participants showed a favorable self-concept in a11 dimensions and a strong intemal locus of control. In the same way, there was a tendency for studems to accept success for i...

Social abilities are an essential part of human activity since they have a bearing on self-confidence, adoption of roles, self-regulation of behavior and academic performance, among other aspects. This study presents the process of construction and validation of a scale of social abilities for pre-school children. The scale was administered to 318 parents of 3 to 5 years old children of low socio-economic status who attend Primary Health Care Centers in San Miguel de Tucumán, Argentina. Considering the evolutionary and contextual characteristics relative to the process of acquisition of social abilities, a different protocol for every age group was designed. The result was a scale with confidence and validity characteristics. The validation of these instruments is helpful for evaluating children in poverty contexts since they enable us to distinguish social resources that allow chil...

In this paper, I interrogate the images of childhood in the model of respectful parenting from a sociological perspective. I am interested in problematizing the notion of agency in articulation with the new social studies of childhood. To this end, I describe the main characteristics that define respectful parenting from the perspective of its followers, and I focus on the example of complementary feeding where I delve into how it produces a view of babies which enhances their agency when it comes to managing the feeding process. This paper is based on previously conducted qualitative ethnographic research about the experiences of middle-class mothers whofollow this style of parenting in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

This study examined the self-assessment learning practices of student teachers in Peru. The research design employed an exploratory approach, and the sample consisted of 201 students, predominantly women, aged between 20 and 24 years. The Learning Self-Assessment Questionnaire, previously validated in Ecuador and Mexico, was adapted and used to ensure content validity for the Peruvian context. The findings revealed that the students relied more on self-grading processes, primarily for summative purposes, rather than engaging in self-evaluations with formative intentions. Consequently, they lacked the ability to effectively utilize self-assessment information to regulate their own learning, thereby limiting the development of metacognitive processes. This finding is paradoxical considering that these student teachers will be responsible for facilitating the learning processes of future st...
