Dancers experience daily pain that impacts their health, but the pain is mediated by coping with pain. We elaborated the Scale of Coping with Pain for Dancers (COPAIN-Dancer) based on the Motivational Theory of Coping with 12 categories of coping. This study presents the validity of the COPAIN-Dancer. The content analysis conducted judges reduced 118 items to 35, that were then administered to 386 Brazilian dancers between 10 and 19 years old (M=15.35; SD=3.36). Applying the Exploratory Factor Analysis, a low correlation resulted among the items that represent the 12 coping categories. However, after conducting Item Response Theory and Network Analysis, we obtained two factors: Adaptive Coping and Maladaptive Coping. The COPAIN-DANCER shows reliability and can be used in adolescent dancers.

The aim of this study was to examine the preliminary evidence of validity of the Research Self-Efficacy Scale (RSE) through the analysis of item contents. A sample of ten research psychologists (70% male; Mage = 47.2 years old), and 34 Peruvian college students (> 70% female), both undergraduate (n = 19) and graduate (n = 15) was assessed. The researchers evaluated the relevance and clarity of the items, and the students, the clarity of the RSE statements. The answers given by the judges were systematized through Aiken’s V with confidence intervals, obtaining favorable results. In conclusion, the RSE exhibits favorable evidence regarding the representativity of the items. The practical implications of the findings are discussed here.

Introduction: The Generic Job Satisfaction Scale (GJS) is an accurate psychological instrument; however, it has been used only in few studies in the academic context. Objective: to analyze the GJS’s psychometric evidence in college professors. Method: a total of 338 professors participated. A CFA and convergent analysis were conducted, and factorial reliability and invariance were estimated according to sex, age, and length of service. Results: in both of the analyzed models, a unidimensional structure was confirmed with satisfactory goodness-of-fit indexes; however, at a practical level, the original model was more consistent with the theory. No evidence of invariance was found. Regarding convergent validity, the items showed opposite moderate and strong associations with the Intent to Leave Scale and Organizational Anomie Scale. The reliability values were satisfactory. Discussion: t...

Design of a measurement instrument is a multidisciplinary task. To measure some trait without major implications - depending on the application you are given- it will be needed specialists in construct, statistical analysts, test designers, and language specialists. In fact, specialized knowledge is required for the design or adaptation of instruments that have broad repercussions, such as, validating a medical diagnostic instrument. Metric characteristics of an instrument are its validity and reliability. Validity refers to the accuracy of physical instruments and the reliability of measurement precision. In addition, validities that are representative of this characteristic are content, construct and criterion validity, while reliability of the instrument increases when errors are identified and these can be controlled.

It aimed to gather evidence psychometrics of the Family Resiliency Assessment Scale (FRAS). Two studies were carried out with participants from different states in Brazil. In the first (n = 314), the majority female (56.4%), with an exploratory factor analysis being performed, which suggested a three-factorial structure, with adequate precision. The study 2 (n = 336), the majority female, who undergoing hemodialysis (46.4%). Confirmatory factor analysis corroborated the structure tetra-factorial (family communication and problem solving, maintaining a positive outlook, using social resources and economics, and family spirituality). Therefore, the results showed that the reduced version of FRAS can be an alternative to assess family resilience and its correlates.

Introduction: the validity of claims about learner self-reports depends on the credibility of the measures used. Inventories developed within the psychometric tradition are expected to provide theoretical and empirical evidence for the validity and reliability of the measures to support subsequent interpretations and decisions. These practices depend on a set of assumptions based on latent trait theory that are essential to understanding what psychometric measures can do. This tutorial outlines essential characteristics of design and reporting of psychometric self-report data.
