El estudio que se realizó se ubica dentro de una investigación básica descriptiva, con el objetivo de determinar las principales características de la comprensión del tiempo histórico en los estudiantes de educación secundaria de Huancavelica, a la luz de la Teoría Crítica de la Historia. Se halla en la línea de la didáctica de las ciencias sociales y la historia. Para tal fin se utilizó el método descriptivo y el diseño descriptivo simple, empleando como instrumento el cuestionario sobre la comprensión del tiempo histórico que consta de 30 preguntas, organizadas de acuerdo a las dimensiones de la variable, además de la ficha de análisis de contenido.
