In this paper we consider the nonlinear transmission problem for the wave equation with time dependent coefficients and linear internal damping. We prove global existence and exponential decay of solution. The result is achieved by considering energy like - Lyapunov functionals and suitable unique continuation theorem for the wave equation.

This paper presents an optimal control strategy for the Zika virus disease with sexual transmission. A mathematical model for the transmission of the Zika virus is considered with three preventive measures as control, namely: the prevention of the sexual contagion with the use of condoms and the orientation in the transmission of Zika in the homosexual and heterosexual relations, the campaigns against vectors and the protection of the society regarding the contagion by mosquito bites. We examine the implementation of various combinations of the control strategies in order to determine the most cost-effective one. The necessary conditions for the optimal controls are determined using Pontryaguin’s maximum principle and the optimality problem is solved using Runge-Kutta fourth order scheme. Based on the computational results, we conclude that the most efficient control strategy is when i...

Pregnancy in a woman living with HIV continues to be an important health problem that involves not only the pregnant woman but also the product of pregnancy due to the high risk of transmitting the virus during pregnancy, the time of delivery and breastfeeding maternal. Despite the years the selected studies continue to report that the reduction of vertical transmission of HIV is achieved with the early diagnosis of the infection in the pregnant woman, reducing the maternal viral load using antiretroviral therapy in pregnancy and in timing of delivery, elective cesarean delivery, discontinuation of breastfeeding, and antiretroviral prophylaxis in the newborn.

Infection by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) continues to be a perinatal health problem globally and in our country, due to the increase in contagion in pregnant women who run the risk of vertical transmission of HIV to their baby during the pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding. Various publications mention that the prevalence of vertical transmission of HIV varies according to different authors between 3.8% and 17%. In Peru it is reported at 4%. Among the risk factors associated with vertical transmission of HIV, the following are mentioned: absence of antiretroviral therapy during prenatal care with adjusted odds ratio (aOR) ranging from 2.41 to 17.20; absence of a program for the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV with aORa of 4.6 to 40.6; absence of prenatal control ORa 4.6; home delivery with aOR of 3.35 to 8.10; emergency cesarean delivery with OR of 4.32; ...

Viruses have been present throughout human history, causing diseases due to infections and food poisoning; they have caused frequent public health problems worldwide. These illnesses are usually mild, moderate, or severe in nature. The personal hygiene of food handlers and processing processes should be checked periodically. Virus detection protocols and safety measures should be continually reviewed as viruses change their mode of infection. The objective of this review was to discuss the possible routes of virus transmission to humans through food. Important topics have been reviewed such as: definition of food viruses, presence, and types of viruses in food, enteric viruses, zoonotic viruses, water as a means of transmission, risks of infection, other non-conventional foods as potential transmitters of viruses and food safety, in addition to current and future challenges, research wor...

In order to describe bovine neosporosis as a livestock health problem in the Andes, the determinants, epidemiology and control of this parasitosis were identified, for this purpose a review of the literature published in the ScienceDirect collection was made, finding that the canine is the main determinant for bovine neosporosis, as a propagator in the stable of the protozoan Neospora caninum, other factors are related to the components of the production system and cattle breeds; It was observed that horizontal transmission of bovine neosporosis occurs through dog excreta contaminating cattle feed and vertical transmission occurs in young cows with low immunity, thus affecting their offspring, with fetuses being infected by N. caninum, causing abortions or reproductive problems such as return to estrus or temporary loss of estrus, a situation that causes important economic losses for cat...

The power sector of a country is highly relevant for its competitiveness and social development. In Peru, this sector has passed through many changes before having its current configuration, which has negative and positive aspects. In the present versus, two different perspectives come face to face as the debate about key and current topics starts. The discussion is about questions such as the “oversupply” of power generation, the creation of additional charges to the power transmission service, or the frontiers of the regulated market.

Cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) is one of the main crops in Latin American and African countries, its almonds being marketed to produce chocolate. However, different biotic factors can negatively affect the crop production, especially on small farms where management by farmers is scarce or nonexistent. Lethal wilt (Ceratocystis cacaofunesta Engelbrecht & Harrington) together with beetle borers (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae), continue to be the main problems affecting cocoa. It has been observed that both organisms interact intrinsically inside the trunks of cacao trees. Despite the importance of this interaction, in general, the countless research and review articles carried out to date have focused mainly on studying each biotic factor separately or have been addressed in a general way. Thus, in this review we mainly focus on the interaction between the Lethal wilt and the borer...

The objective of this investigation is to test the hypothesis of the possible association of one or more microsatellites located on 425-4933 with NSCLP. In this study a sample of 51 extended pedigrees were analyzed. From these pedigrees a sample of 51 caseparents trios was obtained. A novel genetic analysis was carried out using the Extended Transmission Disequilibrium Test (ETDT). Also a case control study was carried out with the 51 probands of the case-parents trios plus a sample of 94 controls of the Chilean population to test if differences were observed resulting from the methods used for the association studies. Microsatellites D4S1570, D4S1615, FGA, UCP1 and D4S1597 located in 4q were analyzed. The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used for analysis of DNA. Forward primers were marked with fluorescent-dye-label. Electrophoresis and analyses were carried out in an ABI PRISM 377 ...
