The first study of canine and feline population estimation in the city of Abancay was carried out. The district, type of dwelling, keeping of dogs and cats in the home, sex, veterinary control, home confinement and sterilization were analysed. Dog ownership represented 47.8%, cat ownership 31.5%, and mixed ownership 21.1%. The highest concentration of cats and dogs occurred in the Abancay district as compared to the Tamburco district. Most families with a dog or cat live in houses and not in apartments. Most families have only one dog and/or one cat in their home, the male sex being predominant. Few dogs and cats have ever received veterinary attention. Confinement and sterilization practices were unusual. Se realizó el primer estudio de estimación poblacional canina y felina en la ciudad de Abancay, donde se identificó el distrito, tipo de vivienda, tenencia de perros y/o gatos, sexo, control veterinario, confinamiento en la vivienda y esterilización. La tenencia de perros representó el 47.8%, la de gatos 31.5% y la tenencia mixta 21.1%. La mayor concentración de perros y gatos se dio en el distrito de Abancay en comparación con el distrito de Tamburco. La mayoría de las familias que tienen perro o gato viven en casa y no en apartamento. La mayoría de las familias tiene solo un perro y/o un gato en su vivienda, predominando el sexo macho. La fasciola hepatica es un trematodo hermafrodita que causa fascioliasis y afecta a animales herbívoros, omnívoros y en ocasiones a las personas. Determina la asociación de fascioliasis con parásitos intestinales, signos clínicos, estado nutricional, crianza de animales, características de la vivienda y consumo de alimentos de niños del distrito de Santa María de Chicmo, Andahuaylas. El estudio fue de tipo analítico, transversal, prospectivo y de nivel relacional. Se tomaron muestras coprológicas y serológicas a 493 niños de 6-16 años, de ambos sexos, con el asentimiento y consentimiento informado de sus padres.             The aim of this study was to determine the association of enteroparasitosis in school-age children in the Santa María de Chicmo district (Apurímac, Peru) with the nutritional status, characteristics of the house, and raising of backyard animals. Stool samples were taken from 493 children aged 6-16 years, of both sexes, and their homes were visited to determine their characteristics. The prevalence of enteroparasites was 82.4%, where the highest prevalence corresponded to Entamoeba coli (59.6%), followed by Ascaris lumbricoides (51.1%) and Taenia sp with 33.3%. Other parasites presented prevalence less than 12%. The raising of pigs and chickens was associated with Taenia sp and E. vermicularis, respectively. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of dog bite accidents in the city of Abancay, Peru, during the years 2008-2012 and to determine factors associated with the injuries caused. The study population corresponded to all the people treated for dog bites in health centres and in the Guillermo Díaz de la Vega Hospital. Odds ratio tests, confidence intervals, Pearson's Chi square, and multivariate logistic regression were performed. In total, 1151 dog bite accidents were recorded, mostly in summer (p<0.05), in males (53.9%), 0-11 years of age (34.5%), residing in an urban area (83.1%) and occurring in public roads (60.5%) (p<0.01). The aim of this study was to evaluate the epidemiological factors and economic loss due to cystic echinococcosis (CE) in animals slaughtered in three abattoirs in Andahuaylas (Apurímac, Peru). The study was carried out between October and December 2016 in the municipal abattoirs of the districts of Talavera, Andahuaylas and San Jerónimo. In addition, a retrospective study was carried out, retrieving information from the records of the Epidemiological Format of Diseases Detected in Benefit Centres, corresponding to the years 2011-2016. Between October and December 2016, the percentage of CE infection was 25.7% (95% CI = 24.7-26.7), with the highest percentages in the Andahuaylas abattoir and in the swine species (p˂0.05). The aim of this study was to determine the association between contamination with Toxocara sp and the sanitary classification of parks of the Department of Food Hygiene and Zoonosis, Ministry of Health (Peru), in the city of Abancay, Peru. The research was analytical, basic level and cross-sectional. Sampling (n=276) was conducted in all 21 city parks through a systematic random sampling using the double «W» methodology. The classification of parks was carried out using the assessment sheet of the Park Sanitary Surveillance Programme, assessing the infrastructure, environment, and health risks. The results showed that 66.7% of parks were contaminated with Toxocara sp and the frequency of samples contaminated with the parasite was 26.8% (95% CI = 21.4-32.2). In 2014, Apurímac, Peru registered the highest number of cases (n=75) The objective of the study was to determine the association between calendar time and wild bovine rabies outbreaks at different geographical altitudes in the Apurímac valley, between the years 2004 and 2015.
