The sustainable investment has gained significant global relevance, driven by the implications of climate change and environmental devastation caused by excessive exploitation of non-renewable natural resources. This growing concern has motivated companies to increasingly commit to sustainability, impacting both their Corporate Social Responsibility practices and the formulation of government policies. This commitment translated into a growing demand for sustainable investments, aiming to make a positive impact on the environment and society. The primary goal of this article was to analyze the long-term impact of sustainable investments on project profitability. To achieve this, a comprehensive systematic literature review was conducted, encompassing relevant information, existing theories, previous research, and pertinent data. The results indicated that sustainable investments could ha...

Thinking about the economic growth of a nation is thinking about a series of alternatives. This research article examines the relationship between energy consumption and economic growth in Peru using cointegration models to present development alternatives. The main objective is to analyze the influence of energy consumption on long-term economic growth. To achieve this, a methodology is used that begins with the Unit Root tests and data is collected between 2005 and 2018. The results obtained reveal a significant positive relationship between energy consumption and economic growth in the long term, which indicates that an increase in energy consumption has a positive impact on economic growth. These findings reveal the importance of considering additional and structural factors that influence long-term economic growth. In conclusion, this study contributes to the understanding of the dy...

Issues of “good faith” in the performance of construction and engineering contracts are common. Moreover, “good faith” issues arise in most jurisdictions of the world, including common law and civil law jurisdictions. This paper considers the approach taken by English common law to the legal concept of “good faith”. It considers the consequences of English law not embracing “good faith” in commercial law in any general way, including in relation to construction and engineering contracts, and some of the doctrines developed by English law to ameliorate the potentially harsh consequences of a party exercising its contractual rights in an unfair manner. Consideration is also given to the New Engineering Contract and other forms of contract which expressly require parties to act in good faith.

The essay analyzes the role that time plays in the single specific transaction, in order to revisit the classic category of long-term contracts. In this perspective, considering the variety of interests involved, the author reexamines the structuralist traditional concept of durable obligations related to a continuing and repeated prevision, aiming to associate long-term contracts mainly to the functional divisibility of the whole contract itself, to the concrete cause realized by negotiation through the time, to a dynamic consideration of the interests that parties would achieve through the duration. Therefore, the main idea of the proposed analysis is that a careful investigation only of the contractual interests of the parties, aside from any abstract and typological approach, can offer a convincing way of solving problems about the still discussed nature of long-term contr...

An unplanned health care system is like a paper boat carried by a slowly sinking current. In times of disinformation and excessive distraction, investing in better facts on health technology assessment (HTA) will enable more active actions rather than reactive to the market dynamics. This paper aims to raise some reflections on HTA in terms of political context, health technologies and epidemiological priorities. The perspective of HTA is context dependent, intrinsic to its political and institutional articulation. At the moment, the paradox is to maintain a specialized structure in the face of economic austerity policies that reduce health resources, and a scenario of greater interest in raising public funds by the private sector. Particularly in Brazil, HTA will also have to deal with the gradual shift from a universal health system to a minimum portfolio of services offered by the pri...

This editorial provides a historical review regarding the trade association as one of the most relevant elements of modern dental practice and supports the importance of contemporary dental schools in the development and advancement of the dental profession. The term union is defined as a group of people who have the same trade or profession and associate to order it, defend it, and share experiences. This word involves all the individuals who work in the same professional branch, which contrasts with the concept of union, which implies a voluntary meeting of a group of these.

Factors impacting on the discounting process are mirrored in every aspect of human activities, be it the philosophical, the aesthetic, the religious through to the environmental and scientific experiences. In short, discounting is a controversial concept, and yet, the economic profession seems to ignore that issues related to “long-term” discounting are complex, multifaceted, and far from settled. The environmental community in particular has expressed reservations about discounting, because this process —an inherently myopic one— embodies a built-in bias against the future generations. It will be argued here that the danger to ecological sustainability is of a specific nature, namely,it relates to the lack of substitutability between human-made capital and natural capital. If this assumption is accepted, then it follows that using a discount rate is an inadequate instrumentfor ac...

The evolution of the world economy and national economies is marked by di- fferent types of cycles: long-term Kondratieff cycles, financial cycles and crises, classical economic cycles. They are related and somehow nested. Here through an analysis of the contributions in this regard and in honor of the work of Bruno Seminario, who addressed these issues for the Peruvian case. The downswings of the five global Kondratieff cycles are revealed to contain thirteen of the fourteen global recessions identified from the late nineteenth century to now. The eight classic economic cycles of Peru and their respective recessions for the period 1950-2020 are also identified, which are also clearly nested in the downward pha- ses of the Kondratieff cycles revealed by Seminario and which are characterized as the recessions of the global cycles by declines in gross domestic product per person. Additiona...

Globally, the main causes of mortality and disability are associated with non-communicable chronic diseases (NCDs), and unhealthy lifestyle are a modifiable risk factor for acquiring these diseases. Adherence to a healthy lifestyle can prevent, treat, and reverse, with a lower cost and greater long-term benefit, the effects of NCDs. Lifestyle Medicine (LM) is a discipline focused on healthy lifestyle, which has been positioning itself in the reality and its introduction into undergraduate medical training, postgraduate training, and continuing medical education is already taking place mainly in the United States of America and Europe. A review of the databases PubMed/Medline, Web of Science, Scopus and Google Scholar was carried out, with the purpose of documenting a perspective of what the LM is, its effects, forms of application and recent results of its implementation in the health. This article analyses how the concept of citizenship is addressed in 15 Peruvian cybermedia platforms and how Internet users use this term on the basis of the information published, in order to know the semantic coincidences and differences in media and public agendas. This research was carried out using a mixed method which combines the classical analysis of news’ content, computer analysis of users’ comments and interviews. Among findings validated by media journalists, the little attention paid by platforms to citizens is highlighted, as well as the divergence between the approaches of the senders and users. Some solutions to the abovementioned misunderstanding in this field of unquestionable public interest that affects both public debate and the development of citizens who are aware of their roles in society are proposed.

Loneliness is an affective state characterized by a subjective experience that is accompanied by a negative evaluation of social networks, in terms of the quantity and quality of social ties. In the Argentinean scientific literature, this issue is usually approached from a quantitative point of view, and no studies were found that sought to understand the subjective aspects of this experience in children. Therefore, this study aims to describe loneliness from the perspective of children aged 8 to 12 in the city of Posadas and to analyze childhood loneliness from the the multidimensional model of Hymel et al. (1999) to assess its suitability. A qualitative and descriptive study was carried out. The sample consisted of 34 children aged between 8 and 12 years. With the consent of the children’s parents, semi-structured interviews consisting of four questions about loneliness were conducte...

After the lost decade of the 1980s, the 1990s represent the "decade of hope" for Latin America. A vigorous economic transformation is reducing the role of the state and allowing the private sector to become once again the main engine of development. What is the relation between this growing role of the private sector and the increasingly important need to conserve the environment? This article explores this relation and establishes that a healthy environment is the foundation over which long-term sustainable development can be built. Furthermore, given the very rich natural resources and environmental characteristics of the region, the main comparative advantages over which prosperous Latin America societies can be built must consider these ecological riches. The beginning of the third millennium provides an excellent opportunity for this paradigm shift to occur.
