The Mandinga Coastal Lagoon System (MCLS) is in central Veracruz, Mexico. Over the last two decades, an ambitious development project named the Riviera Veracruzana has been implemented, aggravating existing socio-ecological problems. The study analyzed the socio-ecological scenario in this system, characterizing the socio-ecological problems and the social actors involved based on their perceptions, interests and power relations. A two-track methodological scheme was used: (1) collection of information from secondary sources associated with the MCLS and (2) ethnographic data collection with primary sources through semi-structured interviews with key social actors from different social sectors, participatory workshops with focus groups and a field diary. The results revealed a perception of high environmental degradation, socio-ecological conflicts surrounding the conservation and use of ...

What is the basis of the crimes perpetrated by State officials (special delicts)? The answer to this question was not always important in the history of the penal doctrine, because only from the work of Claus Roxin was renewed the debate on this type of crimes. The different positions in discussion take their arguments back to the very same concept of a punishable act, whether it is understood as the injury of an interest or as the injury to the validity of the rule. Peru has not been a scenario alien to this debate, since the arguments of the various Supreme Court rulings in the proceedings against Fujimori give proof of this. In this article, it is argued that most special delicts should be understood as special guarantor crimes, because their authors, far from violating a duty, actually have control over the vulnerability of an interest, or over the supervision of a source of danger...

The ability to estimate and discriminate quantities is of early onset in the development and prior to the acquisition of a symbolic numerical system. The performance on tasks of discrimination is modulated by the number ratio that differentiates the sets, so that smaller reasons result in slower and less effective comparisons. The objective of the present study is to analyze the precision and speed by which 4 and 6 year old children discriminate between two quantities based on the number ratio that distinguishes them. Method: a discrimination task of non-symbolic quantities (ad hoc) was given to 60 children from 4 and 6 years old in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina. A mixed ANOVA design was carried out to analyze the amount of hits and reaction times (RT) according to age, and the number ratio that differentiates the groups. The Bonferroni contrast test was used to detect the differen...

In this study I try to explain the characteristics of the legal system, as it is understood in the framework of the Communicational Theory of Law (TCD). The legal system constitutes a textual totality that reflects another textual totality: the legal order. It is not a positivist reflex, by virtue of which the system would be a mere description of the order, but of a hermeneutic reflex, which supposes that the system constructs the order, and presents its better and more finished version, a more intelligent version. The relationship between order and system is not unidirectional, but between them there is a hermeneutic spiral relationship sustained over time, since they are textual totalities in perpetual change. The ordering / system duality represents the basic axis within a juridical realm, a reality that encompasses all the communicational processes and the texts produced by ...

The educational reform (1972) of the Peruvian military under Velasco provoked a major rift within the catholic educational system, which comprised about 8% of the total student population. The hierarchy and progressive groups supported the reform, while middle and upper class catholics opposed it. Since 1963 the government has provided aid to Catholic schools, allowing the church to expand rapidly its educational services in low income areas and in the Andes. But the wealthier Catholic schools resisted the efforts of the government and the church to incorporate them into the same system. By 1975 Catholic education in Peru had split into two systems: one for the rich and one for the middle classes and the poor. Catholic educators also battled over the use of liberation theology textbooks in the classroom and the participation of their teachers in national teachers' strikes. This same pola...

This thesis presents the research results of a quantum dot coupled to a conduction band with spin-orbit coupling (SOC), Specifically, a simgle electron transistor (SET). We study the dependence of the Kondo temperature and the thermoelectric transport properties with SOC. The problem is modeled as a single impurity Anderson model in the presence of the conduction band spin-orbit interaction. The SOC mixes the spins of the conducting electrons, and as a consequence, the SU(2) spin symmetry of the Anderson Hamiltonian is broken. We recover the Anderson Hamiltonian SU(2) symmetry through a rotation of the system’s spins along with rˆ axis, where the ground state of the problem can be considered the Kondo many-body singlet state. On this quantization axis, the Anderson Hamiltonian can be rewritten in the same way as the original Anderson Hamiltonian, with which we obtain a continuous dens...

Peru has several studies based on the Peruvian Tropical Andes (PTA) and its effects due to climate change. It has been shown that due to orography characteristics, different kinds of climate conditions are seen. In that sense, the PTA has a very complex climate system, which causes significant variability mostly related to an increase in temperature and a decrease in precipitation patterns. The Mantaro Valley is located in the PTA, Junin region. Where vulnerable farmers are already affected by poverty, practice agriculture based on rain-fed cropping systems. Hence, climate variability causes agricultural vulnerability and water resource scarcity. This study aims to elaborate the Spatio-temporal drought assessment over Mantaro Valley to provide information on local climate change events. In order to do so, the Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI), recognized by the W...

Free radicals are compounds characterized by having an unpaired electron in their outer orbit, a condition that makes them highly reactive, i.e., they interact through diffusion-controlled reactions with proteins, lipids and nucleic acids. They have also been referred to as reactive oxygen species (ROS), reactive nitrogen species (RNS) or reactive sulfur species(RSS). In the human organism, they are mainly produced in the mitochondrial electron transport chain, where respiratorycomplexes I and III specifically participate and reduce oxygen by converting it into superoxide anion. Likewise, they canbe formed through a wide variety of enzymatic and non-enzymatic reactions involving substances that are synthesized by cells or are ingested with food and some medicines. Human beings have an antioxidant system which is both enzymaticand non-enzymatic in nature and whose function is to protect th...

The aim was to analyze concepts related to the sustainability of agricultural production systems, reflected in their ecological, social and economic dimensions. Sustainability reflects sustainable economic prosperity over time with quality of life, while protecting the natural systems of the planet. It was concluded that sustainable development frames the capacity that human has developed to meet the needs of present generations without compromising opportunities for the development of future generations and agricultural activity is an ecological problem, so it is necessary to evaluate the efficiency of their systems in relation to their sustainability.

This paper is about the relationship between the Law and violence from an environmental perspective. The author indicates that from a historic perspective there is complex relationship between the man and the nature. Then, the conception of the reality influence in how the legal system regulated some aspect related with the environment. From the dialectical interpretation, it is proposed the conflict between the human activity and nature. It is said that the nature reacts due to the affectation that suffers by the human being. Moreover, just the climate change does not affect the environment only, but many activities that are prejudicial also with the environment: the war activities, the modern biotechnologies activities, the bioterrorism threats. The author ask himself if it could talk about the violence against the nature. He indicates that it is reasonable to talk about it from a posi...

Immediately north of Salta city, several streams have their sources on the eastern slopes of the Sierra de Vaqueros, whose piedemonte is urbanized. The man influence on the mountain environment makes it necessary to estimate erosion rates the location of their different erosion classes and their analysis. The work was carried out with satellite images, generating the base map and thematic maps of the Vaqueros and Los Nogales microbasins, through the use of a Geographic Information System (GIS); this allowed to characterize the study areas and to obtain the necessary information to apply the Universal Equation of Soil Loss (USLE). R, K and LS factors were obtained through adaptations of the method, due to the unavailability of data established by authors. The average of current water erosion showed a rate of 47 t/ha/year for the Vaqueros microbasin and 45 t/ha/year for the microbasin Los ...

In this article, we test if national identification is associated with legitimation of the national social systems based on the main tenets of social identity theory. Specifically, we distinguish between patriotism and nationalism to argue that the strongest predictor should be nationalism because it entails a sense of superiority over other countries. In addition, we test if this association is more pronounced in high-status groups considering that national identity is hierarchically constructed. In two studies conducted in Chile and Peru, we found partial support for these hypotheses. Specifically, nationalism was a significant predictor of system justification and perception of meritocracy after accounting for different theoretically relevant covariates, and this association was stronger among high-status groups.

utonomous systems are taking over the decision-making in many crucial aspects of our lives. Trust in them will help users benefit from such systems without harming themselves. Establishing the right level of trust involves a holistic validation and verification process, accounting for aspects such as interactions with the physical world and human users. In this talk, I present our ongoing effort to provide a holistic framework for ensuring the veri-fiability of autonomous systems.

The current regime of concurrency of creditors of registrable movable assets has been the subject of numerous criticisms and comments. Therefore, this article will examine the treatment that this regime has received under the applicable legislation and current case law; as well as its relationship with the systems of transfer of ownership and the signs of cognizability of rights. The authors intend to identify the solutions offered by article 1136 of the Civil Code in this case in order to ask themselves and try to answer which would be the most appropriate regulation. To do so, they will use doctrine, case law and reform proposals.
