The so-called Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) constitute a true revolution of biotechnology. The nutritional improvements at the genetic level represent the main objective for the production of “transgenic foods”. However, despite the benefits of using these techniques derived from research in cellular and molecular biology, this has not prevented taking into account safety issues related, mainly, to the packaging. Therefore, the present work raises some reflections on the new challenges facing the law before these new foods, specifically, in terms of labeling, based on what is established by international instruments and the experience given in developed countries, to finally provide a legislative initiative able to safeguard the fundamental rights of consumers.

Objective: To determine the association between depression and the lack of adherence to antituberculosis treatment in patients treated at the National Hospital Dos de Mayo (Lima, Perú) in 2017. Material and Methods: Observational, descriptive and prospective study carried out in 50 TB patients who completed the first phase of the Sensitive treatment scheme. PHQ-9 questionnaire was applied to determine depression, and Morisky-Green questionnaire to evaluate adherence to treatment. Results: 28 male and 22 female patients with normal nutritional status, recently diagnosed with pulmonary TB were assessed. Average number of fouls was 6.5. 38% of patients were non-adherent, and depression was present in 76%., according to the instruments used. (p> 0.05). There was also a statistically significant association between adherence and having 5 or more faults during the 1st Phase. ...

Objective. Was to determine the factors associated with the lack of adherence to ophthalmological treatment in patients with glaucoma, at a private clinic. Methods. Observational, analytical and crosssectional design. The sample consisted of 106 patients with a previous diagnosis of glaucoma. The statistical analysis was carried out with STATAv.16., the Student’s t test, the Chi square test and the logistic regression analysis were performed with a level of significance of 5%. Results. The average age of the patients was 66,6 ± 13,8 years, the majority were women (59,43%), from the coast (62,26%), with a high school degree education (38,68). The frequency of poor adherence to ophthalmological treatment was 69,81% (n = 74). The multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that accessibility to medications (OR = 0,10; 95% CI = 0,03-0,32) and...

The State as any organization needs to take direction and management models that ensure the aims and objectives of the good use of public budgets that is assigned. Two phenomena that have precluded this management is evident in the respect in recent years. On the one hand, the absence of officials with ability to add direction and management in State entities in the Peru, and on the other, hand operated “punitive” public server characterized by “anomie” that based on their actions, which many times is instilled within the State, practices and trigger nothing efficient, effective and transparent, but acquired in its socio-cultural formation as it is the “moral anomie” characterized by the so-called “middle tolerance”. An index interview were used in data collection. For the inferential analysis, the chi-square test was used for a sample. From the results, it was found that 52.9% (27 contact persons) mentioned that there is a medium level of certainty in the franchise agreement. Also, 82.4% (42 contact persons ) indicated that there is greater legal certainty when the franchise joined the Peruvian commercial code and 88.2% (45 contact persons ) considered improvements to be implemented for a given standard franchise agreement , all with statistical significance (P ≤ 0.05). The Peruvian Ministry of Health (MINSA, in Spanish) has published ministerial resolutions (MR) with the aim of regulating the treatment of people affected by COVID-19. These MR include the use of specific drugs for COVID-19, such as tocilizumab, corticosteroids, enoxaparin, hydroxychloroquine, and ivermectin. These guidelines do not make clear what process was followed to make decisions, how each of these decisions was justified, who their authors are or their potential conflicts of interest. It is important to make an effort to promptly make these data transparent, especially in a subject in which there is still not much evidence, such as COVID-19. In this article, we present controversies on the use of specific drugs for COVID-19 established by MINSA, as well as recommendations on the decision-making process.

The research addresses the problem of violence against women. To do this, it defines genderbased violence in its various manifestations, details the evolution of international and national regulations on this matter and analyzes the official statistics provided by the competent state institutions. Later, it explains and sustains that the penal system does not resolve social conflicts, to later affirm and sustain that criminality is produced by the design of the social structure, and is learned in social interaction. Finally, it proposes the “government of crime” as an effective mechanism to reduce criminality against women to tolerable limits.

At present there is a consensus in recognizing the importance of institutions, rules of society: formal and informal-to explain both success and failure of countries seeking development. In this perspective, Peru has not reached the longed-economic development because there is a weak institutional framework and does not effectively protect individual rights. The institutional framework has led throughout our history, the establishment of forms of government, populist and authoritarian. Our judicial system is not working properly: the judicial processes are inefficient (high cost and slow processes), there is political influence, court decisions are uncertain, there is widespread corruption, and access to justice is uneven. As a result of these characteristics, the legal system promotes legal uncertainty. In addition to the above, do not have a strong political party system. The instituti...

The communication between doctor and patient is highly relevant as it can influence patients’ health outcomes, their adoption of treatment, their decision to continue or discontinue it, and their satisfaction with the care provided by physicians. On the other hand, defensive medicine encompasses medical attention that does not increase patient benefits and results in the overuse of medical services, driven by the physician’s fear of being sanctioned and/or preventing litigation risks. This research aimed to explore the relationship between the lack of training in communication skills among physicians and defensive medicine. The design was non-experimental, correlational; using a logical deductive method and a quantitative approach. The population studied consisted of physicians from Mexico and Peru, with a sample of 350 professionals (175 from each country). It reaffirmed the importa...

In the review of a corpus of twelve social studies texts on Lambayeque from the period 1922-1989, there is a consistent declaration of overwhelming difficulties in accessing printed sources and historical archives. I present this difficulty as a tragedy of inequality, which nevertheless defines the ethos and academic identity of studies in this province of northern Peru.

Variants of the genes ABCB1 and ABCC2 have been associated with an increased risk of drug-resistant epilepsy; this phenomenon, however, has been scarcely tested by means of comparisons between populations: In Latin America there have only been 3 studies. Objective: To evaluate the association between the variants C3435T of the gene ABCB1, and --24C> T of the gene ABCC2 with drug-resistant epilepsy in Peruvian patients treated at the Epilepsy Unit of a Peruvian Hospital. Material and Methods: Blood samples from 22 patients with drug-resistant epilepsy and eight patients with pharmaco-responsive epilepsy were analyzed between May 2016 and June 2017. The identification of the C3435T variant of the ABCB1 gene was performed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and subsequent enzymatic digestion; the -24C>T variant of the ABCC2 gene was obtained by sequencing. Results: An allelic frequency...
