This research had the following objectives: 1) to identify, thematize and describe the significant moments of a psychoanalytic process perceived by the patients as important for the psychic change, as well as to analyze their nature and the relations between them, and the different aspects of the psychoanalytic process; 2) to evaluate if the perspective of the users on the significant moments of the psychotherapeutic process associated to the change contributes to extend the understanding of the therapeutic action of the psychoanalytic psychotherapy. The project has a qualitative approach, since a subjective phenomenon was taken as information (Mortl & Gelo, 2015), such as the user’s perception and assessment of aspects related to the psychoanalytic process that are related to psychic change, and the narrative of the lived process. The results show 4 thematic axes with 18 sub-theme...

This study investigated the social representations about violence of the transgender population in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Southeastern Brazil. Semi-structured interviews and content analysis were used combined with lexical analysis through Iramuteq software. Nine transgender people (transvestites and transsexuals) were chosen for the interview based on convenience sampling. The results show that the anchorages and objectifications of social representations are organized into four categories: (a) experiences of violence (b) institutions and traditional process, (c) identity processes (d) and body and social life. Consequently, the anchorages and objectification of the social representationsof violence are related to the transitional process, the individual and social experiences to which these people are subjected that could be related to the acceptance and resistance to viole...

This article sought to understand what displaced women, heads of families assisted by the Social Assistance of Brazil, understand about their displacement process and the State’s actions in regards to it. Through Critical Discourse Analysis it was identified that, although there are several causal attributions to displacement - such as environmental risk and violence - what really runs through the experiences of these women is an exclusionary urbanization, lived throughout the history of these families, which led them to occupy inadequate living spaces such as stream banks and unsuitable land, which ended up being risky and displacing the families in the medium term. Participants understood this situation as a process natural to their social condition, but not as a result of negligence on the part of the State. The results further indicate that the forms of forced displacement are arti...

Chronic wounds are a serious health problem because they do not follow a normal healing process and take a long time to heal. Monitoring the evolution of the wound is vital to evaluate the current treatment and determine the need for a different approach. Traditionally, this assessment is based on manual measurements and visual observation, which can be subjective and non-quantitative, leading to uncertainty in patient follow-up. This thesis proposes to leverage color and thermal imaging from cameras embedded in a smartphone to provide a non-invasive tool for wound assessment. Standard and affordable devices enables its applicability and scalability in clinical settings. We propose a methodology to create realistic and accurate 3D thermal models from a set of images captured with affordable and handheld devices. This approach was automated and evaluated in clinical settings on a total of...

International law has sought to regulate human mobility throughout history, yet it still faces significant limitations and a marked Eurocentric bias. Forty years after the Cartagena Declaration on Refugees, this article analyzes the discussions of the Cartagena+40 Process, which resulted in the Chile Declaration and Plan of Action 2024–2034. These discussions identified the main normative and migration policy challenges in Latin America. This article aims to contribute to critical dialogue and encourage further research to update international law. It proposes, for example, to overcome the traditional dual legal typology between migrants and refugees as a condition for granting international protection, and to foresee the necessary legal inclusion of new legal terminologies and definitions. This would enable States to better address current challenges in this area, reaffirming the fund...

The Truth Commission in Colombia was established based on the transitional justice model. Its function is to serve as a measure of recognition of the violent events during the armed conflict, which has left more than nine million victims. In this scenario, a descriptive correlational study (N=1166) was conducted with a sample of 22 provinces of the country to evaluate the knowledge, approval, and perceived effectiveness of the first years of the Commission from psychosocial aspects: victimization, collective emotions, reconciliation, collective memory. 58% were direct victims. The results indicate high levels of approval and disposition to participate in the Commission’s activities, as well as some skepticism about its usefulness and low confidence in the official apologies of the groups in conflict. A high index of positive emotions related to the commission and low trust in governmen...

What is it like to live without questioning the meaning of existence? This document proposes how something as common and chaotic as existential crises can find transformation and change through drama therapy. This therapeutic tool facilitates emotional expression through drama (acting, play, dramaturgy, masks, among other elements of theatrical art) and generates powerful introspection processes in participants through their self-awareness, through provocative questions posed by the drama therapist. The social symptoms of existential emptiness end up generating emotional difficulties that can even lead to the loss of life for those who experience them. For this reason, it is decided to work with young people, as they are the population most affected by this problem. In other words, drama therapy aims to propose a path that approaches the construction of the purpose for which young people...

Metal mining is one of the economic pillars of the Peruvian economy. Peru is the main producer of gold, zinc, lead, and tin in Latin America and the second largest producer of copper, silver, and zinc worldwide. Despite its economic importance, mining has also left a plethora of Mining Environmental Liabilities (MEL) whose inadequate waste management represents a risk for both the environment and human health and is a common trigger of social problems. The Cajamarca región is the second región in Peru in terms of the number of MEL sites with the majority of them located in the Hualgayoc district. The goal of the PhD project is the assessment of the environmental impact of MEL in the Peruvian Andes using as an example two post-mining sites in the Hualgayoc district. This evaluation includes the study of soils and native plant species in terms of their metal accumulation potential and th...
