This article analyzes the theoretical and epistemological elaborations of Luhmann about the problem of meaning. Its aim is to trace the key tension that crosses the different inflections of his proposal: between a formal definition of meaning, with the distinction of selective actuality and the horizon of potentialities, and its taking form, parting from the operations of systems. In order to do this, three decisive moments of his perspective are studied. First, the article focuses on his claim to formally conceptualize and to «desubjectivize» meaning, within a series of theoretical inheritances and ruptures.Second, it analyzes the consequences of his autopoietical proposal, either by pointing out meaning as the coevolutionary achievement of psychic and social systems, or in its analysis of the linguistic generalization of meaning. Third, in his later works, with the intensification of...

Although corruption within prisons is not necessarily a new phenomenon, this article offers, through quantitative data from a survey (MQPL questionnaire adapted to Chile) applied in 2022 in 20 Chilean prisons (n = 1,159), an empirical view of it from the perspective of incarcerated individuals and offers an exploration of its predictive factors. The perception of corruption was operationalized through the dependent variable “in this prison things move with money”, which was modeled through multiple linear regression, where various predictors were incorporated into the model, which was able to explain 32.5% of the variation in the perception of corruption. The independent variables negatively associated with corruption were the perception of good functioning of the prison, the existence of clear rules within the prison, the perception of receiving fair treatment and respect for rights...

The sustainable investment has gained significant global relevance, driven by the implications of climate change and environmental devastation caused by excessive exploitation of non-renewable natural resources. This growing concern has motivated companies to increasingly commit to sustainability, impacting both their Corporate Social Responsibility practices and the formulation of government policies. This commitment translated into a growing demand for sustainable investments, aiming to make a positive impact on the environment and society. The primary goal of this article was to analyze the long-term impact of sustainable investments on project profitability. To achieve this, a comprehensive systematic literature review was conducted, encompassing relevant information, existing theories, previous research, and pertinent data. The results indicated that sustainable investments could ha...

This study aims at systematizing and integrating research findings about Future Time Perspective (FTP) in Peruvian educational contexts. FTP is a motivational psychological variable that allows explaining the present behavior, considering goals set in the future. The construct demonstrated its theoretical and empirical strength in different contexts. During the second half of the XXth Century Nuttin and Lens (1985) applied the variable in different fields, especially the educational one. Their proposal considered the cognitive and motivational properties of FTP; its density, extension and level of realism was then reported. Empirical research has been conducted to date under this theoretical background; however, a decade ago this concept was redirected to a multidimensional proposal conceptualized as Future Orientation (FO) considering three components: motivational, cognitive and beha...

In the context of the evolution of regulation as a discipline, its characteristics that distinguish it from administrative law and the state’s police powers are explored. The main theoretical approaches to the regulatory process are addressed, such as public interest, interest groups, and institutional models. These models provide various explanations for the development of regulatory policies, which may vary depending on the context and circumstances.Additionally, in light of contemporary challenges, the responses of regulatory authorities to situations arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, digitalization, artificial intelligence (AI), and cryptocurrencies are analyzed. The most effective regulatory models for addressing these challenges are evaluated, highlighting the importance of flexible and adaptive regulation in response to global risks. Finally, the need for future legal pr...

The development of primary health care in Peru has achieved important milestones in its history. The social foundations that were formed in the health services in the previous century can be explained by events during the colonial era. Furthermore, after the Declaration of Alma-Ata in 1978, Peru faced several obstacles that further polarized the population from different economic strata. However, the Ministry of Health, together with international cooperation, began to develop health programs with the objective of providing primary care to the population, with the fundamental results that will help to unify the population and be one-step closer to achieving universal health care coverage. Therefore, in this document, we describe the events leading to Peru’s current health system, the achievements of Primary Health Care services, and the use of technological devices to improve public he...

Since the beginning of its republican life, the Latin American peoples have made strenuous efforts to position themselves among those who bear the label of modern and developed. The repeated failures of these attempts were associated with deep questioning about the possibility and convenience of assuming progress and development projects, since the cultural characteristics of this part of the continent were very different from the original cultural contexts of said projects. Since then, at different times of acute social crisis in the region, heated debates have arisen around the cultural difficulties of local peoples in assuming as their own the processes of progress and development that Western modernization brought with it. In the midst of these controversies, polarized theoretical and pragmatic positions have emerged that decoded the relationship between modernization, development an...

“The invisible is not what does not exist, but what we cannot observe." The objective of this research is to determine the impact of the invisible learning of Moravec and Cobo (2011) on the acquisition of the English language. To this end, the available scientific literature was reviewed, proceeding later to argue the benefits of invisible learning in learning English with technological tools. The emergence of new technologies requires that teachers act in an innovative way by applying teaching strategies that facilitate the educational achievement of the student, developing social, reflective and cognitive skills. Said learning is no longer only conceived as the incorporation of new grammatical structures, but with the learning of a new culture. From the trial, it was possible to conclude that invisible learning shows a relevant role when learning a foreign language due to its charact...

The aim of this article is to analyze gender wage gap in Peru and the suitability of the measures taken by the Peruvian Government to deal with this very complex issue. In order to do so, the author analyzes the definition of the gender wage gap statistical indicator, and the current state of the gender wage gap in Peru, as well as its causes. Finally, the author identifies the challenges arisen by Equal pay legislation, which, even though could be considered a good first step to eliminate gender wage gap, shall be complemented by additional measures aimed to question gen...

This material shows the political characteristics of Chilean society during the three years prior to the outbreak of October 2019. To account for this situation we have considered a theoretical and methodological contribution. In the theoretical aspect, we have considered the concept of sociopolitical matrix (MSP) and its destructuring process since the last decades of the 20th century. As a methodological element we have considered the «Longitudinal Social Study of Chile» (ELSOC) and the evidence that allows us to account for the destructuring of the MSP during the years prior to the outbreak. Thus, far from considering it an unforeseeable situation, the outbreak was the result of the MSP's deregulation processes and the processes of subjectivation within the framework of neoliberalism. Finally, with the present material we intend to realize that the processes of destructuring of the ...

Phytophthora capsici is an oomycete that causes various symptoms, such as root, neck, stem, fruit rot, and leaf blight, in different plant species, including the genus Capsicum. One of the tools to counteract this biotic problem, which may be more profitable and respectful to the environment in the long term, is using biocontrollers such as Bacillus, Pseudomonas, Streptomyces (bacteria), and Trichoderma (fungus). It seems that each of these microorganisms has different mechanisms that allow them to inhibit and reduce the growth of P. capsici, negatively affecting the development of sporangia, germination and motility of zoospores, and expansion of germ tube. Although this direct biocontrol action on the phytopathogen correlates with the reduction of symptoms in Capsicum plants or other plant species, this would also involve the activation of defense responses in plants against P. ...
