Future time perspective extension is an individual's perception of the psychological distance between future goals. The concept of extension can be expanded to include how far into the future an individual habitual time space extends and the diffusion of goals within that time space. This alignment and distance may be related to the individual episodic future thinking, the pre-experiencing of future events. Research in FTP and EFT are typically siloed; considering both approaches to future thinking provides not only greater insight into the two constructs but may also provide avenues for developing interventions. Participants in this study (n = 13) were recruited from a scholarship program designed to provide them with financial support as they progress from community college to high-wage careers in science and engineering. Students were transitioning from two-year programs at local comm...

This study sought to determine the relationships between Future Time Perspective, Self-Care Behaviors, and Mental Health, and to compare the results based on the adolescents’ sex. A total of 181 adolescents participated and answered three questionnaires measuring each of the variables involved. The results of the structural model suggest that Future Time Perspective influences self-care behaviors, which impact mental health. Significant correlations were found between Future Time Perspective and self-care behaviors (r = 0.47, p < 0.001) and mental health problems (r = -0.20, p < 0.001), as well as differences based on the adolescents’ sex in self-care behaviors (t = 2.09, p < 0.05). The findings of this study contribute to the literature on mental health in adolescents with theoretical and practical implications, establishing an empirical model that links future time perspective with...

The following research aims to analyze the relationship between Future Orientation and Coping Styles used by adolescents aged from 14 to 18 in Metropolitan Lima. The sample consisted of 153 adolescents, both male and female. The instruments used to measure these variables are the psychometric adaptation of Seginer’s Prospective Life Questionnaire (2009) by Herrera (personal communication, 2019), and the psychometric adaptation of Frydenberg and Lewis’ Adolescent Coping Scale (ACS) by Canessa (2002). The findings revealed that there is a statistically significant positive relationship between the life domains of future orientation with the coping styles focused on productive coping and reference to others. On the other hand, there was no evidence of a relationship of the life domains of future orientation with the nonproductive coping.

Focusing on our future is often associated with well-being, benefiting both the individual and society. However, the literature suggests that this relationship is not always consistent. Moreover, while this relationship has been studied in Lima from a subjective well-being perspective, it has not yet been explored using a psychological well-being framework. This study explores this relationship using Seigner’s, Nurmi, and Poole’s ‘Future Orientation’ and Diener et. al.’s ‘Flourishing’ constructs. Using data from 445 students from a Lima university (mean age=21.80; 64.27% females) and structural equation models, our results suggest that having a sense of internal control over one’s future career (b=.29, SE=.24, p<.01), approaching one’s future career with hope (b=.27, SE=.14, p<.01), and being optimistic about the realization of future family plans (b=.27, SE=.13, ...

Future Time Perspective (FTP) is defined as a cognitive-motivational construct of an individual’s perception of their personal future. How do people consciously construct their FTP? This study presents case studies using both daily data (over 19 days) and longitudinal data (spanning 33 years), focusing on how goal-directedness (a measure of FTP) and hope interact to shape their trajectories. The results show that hope is high when individuals experience a connection between the present and future, accompanied by the integration of affect, cognition, and behavior. In contrast, perceived uncertainty reduces hope. Importantly, goal-directedness increases when individuals consciously set goals, make plans, and take actions for the future. This study sheds light on the conscious construction of FTP by being among the first to examine within-individual variability by combining both daily and...

Factors impacting on the discounting process are mirrored in every aspect of human activities, be it the philosophical, the aesthetic, the religious through to the environmental and scientific experiences. In short, discounting is a controversial concept, and yet, the economic profession seems to ignore that issues related to “long-term” discounting are complex, multifaceted, and far from settled. The environmental community in particular has expressed reservations about discounting, because this process —an inherently myopic one— embodies a built-in bias against the future generations. It will be argued here that the danger to ecological sustainability is of a specific nature, namely,it relates to the lack of substitutability between human-made capital and natural capital. If this assumption is accepted, then it follows that using a discount rate is an inadequate instrumentfor ac...

This article aims to open the debate on the so-called mortgage specialty with respect to secured credits in future or eventual debts, in the light of the regis...

This paper examines inequality in educational outcomes in Peru through a spatial approach. Cluster analysis and spatial statistics were applied for the years 2007 and 2016. The results, based on the selected educational indicators, show that the country’s departments are grouped into at least four clusters, with little variation over time. In other words, departments with strong or weak performance in both the quality and quantity of education tend to remain largely unchanged from one year to the next. Although the data reflect realities prior to the pandemic, the findings provide a useful foundation for future research on progress in reducing educational inequality. In this context, sectoral policy should be implemented in ways that promote vertical equity and prioritize the regionalized and decentralized allocation of resources.

The article develops the relationship between the concepts of territorial planning and urban planning in order to study the future perspectives of this field after the Urban Reform of 2021. Based on this, we consider the specific context of Lima where it has been approved the Metropolitan Development Plan to 2040 y the Urban Development Plans are in the making, so as to state how it is possible to concretize the main objectives of the Urban Reform of 2021 through a zoning regulation – the normative element of the urban plans. With that in mind, we set the structure of a proposal of zoning regulation, including the principles, approaches, guidelines and criteria for interpretation; the division of the territory; zoning and compatibilities; urban and building parameters; and land value capture instruments.

Different fellowships programs to public school teachers have been developed in Latin-American. In Perú, this new program has been managed by Pronabec financing fellowships for teachers of different regions during 2014-2015. Thisstudy is addressed to analyze the teachers´ dilemmas faced when they applied; and, explore the future professional perspectives of this kind of teacher. The qualitative method implies a documental analysis and survey with open answers to 20 teachers. Four types of dilemmas were identified–master versus family, master versus school, master versus another study, master versus no migration–, and eight possible futures scenarios related to the professional, academic, and unionpolitical fields.

The intricate relationship between sex hormones and cardiovascular health has garnered increasing attention, revealing significant implications for both disease prevention and therapeutic strategies. This literature review aims to elucidate the multifaceted roles of estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone in cardiovascular physiology and pathology. Estrogen is widely recognized for its protective effects on vascular function, lipid metabolism, and atherosclerosis prevention, while testosterone presents a more complex picture with both beneficial and detrimental impacts on cardiovascular risk. Progesterone, often overlooked, also plays a critical role in modulating these effects. Additionally, this review explores how sex hormones influence endothelial function, inflammatory responses, and contribute to gender differences in cardiovascular disease prevalence. The impact of menopause and ...
