Peter Joseph Hocking Weeks, or Pedro Hocking as he was known in Lima, was born in Pucallpa on July 7, 1938 and died in Lima on October 31, 2022. Pedro Hocking did not have a scientific background, but he was recognized as a naturalist for his contributions to the knowledge and documentation of Peruvian birds. Pedro Hocking was part of a generation passionate for biodiversity, for whom each locality visited was a new world that contained unknown species and that did not have field guides or current technological resources to identify in situ those that were already known. It was a time when the collection of specimens was the basic tool to know the biodiversity of a locality and the main activity of the expeditions. Although his main interest was birds, his contributions were not limited to them but included other groups of fauna as well.

The present investigation has focused on the analysis of the uncertainty of geospatial data in the initial stage of oil exploration. The objective of this research is to develop a geometallurgical model for mining exploration integrating geological, geochemical, and metallurgical information of an area with mining potential located in the province of Imbabura in the NW of Ecuador. The investigation allowed to establish the relation between the investments in exploration and exploitation in Hydrocarbons and the collection of the Income Tax in Peru during the period 2000-2016. Based on this objective, a descriptive analysis was performed on the relationship between the variables and an inferential analysis: the Pearson correlation coefficient and the simple linear regression. Thus, the main results obtained show that there is a relation between the investments in exploration and exploitation in Hydrocarbons and the collection of the Income Tax, and that the degree of this relationship is strong. In addition, it was found that the sense of the relationship is positive and statistically significant. The article explores the potential of lithium in Peru, addressing the challenges and opportunities to achieve sustainable development and generate economic and social impact. Peru has significant lithium reserves, but the lack of clear and effective regulation has limited foreign investment. The importance of addressing social and environmental issues is highlighted. In addition, the relevance of lithium in the manufacture of rechargeable batteries for electric vehicles and renewable energy storage systems is discussed. Finally, the article concludes that the potential of lithium to contribute to the transition towards a low carbon economy is considerable but requires a coherent and transparent strategy to guarantee its sustainable exploitation.

Este trabajo consiste en estudiar los datos fotométricos y analizar las series temporales en los filtros r y Hα en 73 medidas en cada filtro obtenidas en dos noches consecutivas de un campo en el disco galáctico. Se caracterizó los Chips S29/CCD1, S30/CCD2 y S29/CCD1 obtenidos con la cámara de gran campo DECam. Se detectó y caracterizó tanto cuantitativamente como cualitativamente las diferentes clases de estrellas candidatas a variables mediante el índice de Welch & Stetson y el uso del software EXPERIMENT obteniendo la confirmación de 162 variables de diferentes tipos, poniendo especial interés en las RR Lyrae. The present thesis investigates the spatial diffusion of terrorist attacks in Peru during three temporalities: the peak of violence (1980-2000), its decline (2000-2021), and the entire period (1980-2021). To study the relationships between the occurrence of terrorist attacks and geographic features, three grid-cell level datasets are constructed with which Moran’s I tests and different spatial (spatial error and spatial autoregressive) and non-spatial (linear and negative binomial) models were applied. The findings reveal that spatial autocorrelation of attacks is more pronounced during the decline period. Moreover, the effects of certain spatial variables on the number of terrorist attacks vary across time periods and models, sometimes even reversing their impact.
