The present work was developed with the objective of evaluating the sustainability indicators in two dairy farms (A and B) of the Mayabeque province, Cuba. An agroecological diagnosis was carried out with student participation through a system approach to identify and rank problems during the dry season. In dairy A, a sustainable animal production project was carried out, while in dairy B the traditional production system was maintained. The sustainability of the agroecological bases was evaluated, by weighting 13 indicators based on the average potential of the dairy farms and the participatory techniques used. These were selected based on international experience and adapted to the conditions of Cuba. The work included the identification and modeling of systems, analysis of processes and of productive, ecological and socioeconomic indicators. Among the tools used are the search for sec...

The molecular characterization of the mutations causing hereditary diseases are important tools for diagnosis, prognosis and eventually treatment. Huntington's disease is a neurodegenerative disease producing spastic uncontrolled movements and is caused by the expansion of a trinucleotide (CAG)n within the first exon of the gene HD located at 4p16. Hemocromatosis is a liver disease causing cirrosis, diabetes and heart problems, in addition one third of patients dies of hepatocarcinoma. Almost all cases of hemocromatosis are due to mutations in the gene HFE at 6p21, being C282Y and H63D the mutations most frequently detected in Europe and USA. We are establishing the molecular diagnosis of different diseases starting with Huntington disease and hemochromatosis as the begining of a service to the Peruvian comunity.

Farmed shrimp are constantly threatened by infectious diseases. The increasing pressure on production demands high performance and efficiency that can only be achieved by eliminating or reducing the impact of pathogens. The timely detection of diseases is of great importance, so it is required to have a clear command of the advantages and disadvantages of different diagnostic techniques, in order to implement a rapid response to outbreaks that may occur. Obtaining a diagnosis will depend on various factors, including the early detection of clinical signs and the correct interpretation of the results. In this way, the selection of techniques that allow a preliminary approach to a health emergency and the confirmatory tests that will lead to the design of actions to be chosen. The aim of this paper was to present the advantages and disadvantages of the diagnostic techniques currently avail...

Vital signs like the fever usually are frustrating for the binomial doctor-patient; as such it is indispensable to have in mind a series of steps that direct us to the etiologic diagnosis of this pathological modality. We cannot face this disturbance by following protocols recommended by authors of the first world, as many times we remain halfway, constituting a loss of time and frustration. That is why we need to reorganize an established affluent protocol. In this paper, the English diagnosis protocol is reorganized in order to deduce the etiologic factor in Fever of unknown origin (FOD). Most of the authors expert on the subject recommend four divided diagnosis phases according to the tools (technological and scientific) of diagnosis. The intention of this paper is to regroup the diagnosis modality in benefit of hospital units of Latin America and other developing countries. We presen...

Facial symmetry refers to a complete coincidence of each facial component on the sagittal plane, while asymmetry refers to the bilateral difference between these components. The presence of perfect bilateral symmetry is almost never present in human, so it is more common for individuals to predominate facial asymmetry. However, ocassionally, significant facial asymmetry results not only in functional but also in aesthetic problems. This research seeks to determine the alternatives, diagnosis and ideal treatment plan for the correction of each type of facial asymmetry through orthognathic surgery. For this purpose, a review of articles published between 2015 to date was carried out. Selecting those that were focused on describing or evaluating facial and dentofacial symmetry and asymmetry, type of diagnosis or treatment plan, including clinical cases. The Google search engine, SciELO and ...

Objective:To compare the diagnostic usefulness of index tests in the identification of invasive diarrhea. Methods: Combination of qualitative and metanalytic methods. Data identification and study selection: Of 2603 MEDLINE references (1970-1994) and correspondence with tield experts, 81 fulfilled preestablished selection criteria and 25 of them had sufficient data for additional metaanalysis. Extraction of data: During the qualitative review, one author extracted extended information on the diagnostic value of index tests and on methodologic characteristics of primary studies. During the metanalytical phase, all data from the selected articles were extracted by one observer whereas the second reviewer checked them for accuracy. True positive (TPR) and false positive rates (FPR) were calculated with the 2 x 2 contingency table. To compare the diagnostic usefulness of index tests, a summa...

The study was carried out in small Agricultural Production Units (UPA) that grow corn in the Cuatro Vientos and Lomas de Mera villages of the Mocache canton, humid tropics of Ecuador in order to evaluate the composition of agrodiversity and its relationship with its sustainability. The rapid characterization consisted of identifying the perceived problems and the state of agrodiversity on the farms, through direct observation and semi-structured interviews. For the detailed characterization, standardized and weighted sustainability indicators were used according to their importance in the sociocultural, economic and environmental dimensions. Farmers had a limitation on the low costs of the products since there was no price stability. The local hybrid INIAP H-551 continues to be managed under conventional practices. The planned agrodiversity influenced the similarity of the farms between ...

Global demographic changes have generated new challenges in the health system. Treating increasingly older patients with more complex health problems has significantly raised and exceeded our response capacity, and Peru is not indifferent to this situation. These patients need more and more care, and late-stage chronic diseases require an approach change: from aggressive healing treatments to palliative ones which improve quality of life and are associated with an important social content. Late-stage diseases occur in the final stage of life, where irreversible damage; multiple somatic, psychological and spiritual symptoms; as well as great impact in the patients and their families take place. Late-stage cancer diseases have been studied on a relatively frequent basis; however, non-cancer diseases occur more often and result in better survival rates. This review article aims at gathering...

According to Spielberg (1988), anger is defined as a basic emotion which occurs at a particular moment before aggression or hostility. State anger is characterized by subjective feelings that vary in intensity, from mild irritation or annoyance to intense fury and rage. On the other hand, trait anger is defined as a willingness to perceive a wide range of situations as annoying or frustrating and to experience increased state anger. The experience of anger has been related to different health problems (Averill 1983, Mytton et al. 2002), personality disorders (DiGiussepe et al. 2012), suicide risk (Hawkins et al. 2014), and others. The purpose of this study was to conduct a diagnostic assessment of the experience and expression of anger in young university students, as a first step toward future actions promoting proper regulation and anger management. For this purpose, an ex post f...

The digital age has increased the need for technological skills in students, posing challenges for educational institutions. Education requires a shift in pedagogical approaches, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic, which accelerated social isolation and expanded the need to master digital environments within educational communities. This context has strengthened computational thinking (CT) as an effective strategy, adopted in the MIT-Harvard model since 2012, which has a clearly established theoretical framework. The purpose of this research was to assess the level of development of computational thinking competencies aimed at problem-solving. To achieve this, a quantitative study with a non-experimental cross-sectional design was conducted, examining the relationship between three dimensions of computational thinking: conceptual, practical, and perspectival, and their impact on the ...
