Communication for development (CfD) is a discipline that seeks to promote social change through the strategic use of media and participatory dialogue. However, there is a paucity of studies that systematically and critically analyze the social processes underlying CfD interventions and their impact on the social significance of beneficiary communities. This article presents a narrative review of the literature on CfD, with the aim of identifying the main theoretical and methodological approaches that have addressed this topic, as well as the main limitations and challenges facing research in this field. Thirty-five articles published between 2018 and 2023 were analyzed, selected through a search in the Scopus, Web of Science, SciELO, Redalyc and Latindex databases. The results show that most of the studies adopt a qualitative and participatory perspective, focused on the analysis of spec...

In the age of the Internet, anonymous online users can form a societal reaction by posting large quantities of critique and insulting comments against (perceived) norm violations on social media. These so-called online firestorms, or Enjō in Japanese, tend to include aggressive behavior against the target. This research aims to reveal the dynamics of Enjō and explores how people communicate with each other in the formation process of Enjō by conducting a comparative case study. This study collects tweets posted in five Enjō cases and compares each case to create conceptual categories of the communication process of Enjō. Results show that the participants of Enjō interact with each other to define the problem of concern through exchange of information. Moreover, it is revealed that there are two types of process in the escalation of Enjō, “social problematization” and “villa...

In the current socio-political situation in Colombia and in the post-agreement scenario (2016), in coexistence with the internal armed conflict, the relationship between memory and space is reflected; it is formulated from its communicative and political character, taking into account, as a starting point, that memory is a social construction, anchored in space-time in the daily life of communities, formulated as a subjective interaction, which, when socialized, becomes collectivized; that is, it has an intersubjective nature, managing dialogic and social networks, updating ways of knowing reality and influencing the transformations of communities. The objective is to formulate a reflection on the socio-discursive and political-cultural construction of memory, to address space-time in a place of memory in Bogotá; relationship that is characterized by having a communicative, symbo...

This is a descriptive-evolutive, dogmatic and comparative study on the collective processes of the European Union (EU). On November 25th, 2020, the Union adopted one of its most awaited legal instruments: the firstlegislation, that is supposed to create a European collective action mechanism for monetary relief. According to Directive 2020/1828 on representative actions for the protection of the collective interests of consumers, and repealing Directive 2009/22/EC, member States have to adopt the transposing measures by December 25th, 2021, and give effect to them on and apply them to representative actions that are brought on or after June 25th, 2023. The European movement for collective litigation started approximately three decades ago. It earned official European recognition in competition law in 2005, owing to the European Commission’s Green Paper on Damages Actions for Breach of ...

In this article it is proposed, firstly, that the words used by collectors of comics action figures are not registered in the Diccionario de la lengua española [Dictionary of the Spanish Language] (DLE). This is made clear by an analysis of the configuration of linguistic formation processes, including semantic, morphophonological and social ones. Therefore, the main objective is to propose a linguistic analysis of these terms and thus demonstrate that their lexicon is different from the lexicographical proposal. In order to achieve this objective, a methodology in accordance on the lexicographic technique is used: acquisition of lexemes recorded in lexicographic cards, observation of the context and use of the words, as well as a review of bibliographic sources on linguistic theories. At the end of article, it is confirmed that the words have a different linguistic configuration and, t...

The document provides so me theoretical insights around collective models of household decision making and resource allocation. These models, in contrast with unitary ones, consider the consumption decisions of the family to be a result of a bargaining process and interaction between household members. The predicted equilibrium conditions tend to differ from the traditional approach of utility maximization. The focus is centered on two specific issues: the emergence ofthe pooling income hypothesis (which characterizes unitary models) and the efficiency hypothesis (which characterizes, within the collective framework, cooperative solutions). Using these insights, the article establishes preliminary tests for the collective approach, as against the unitary one, using data for Peru, and then investigates whether efficiency is achieved in consumption allocation. The results presented provid...

A very concurrent problem is the water scarcity that is growing day by day because many of us misuse water resources. Therefore, this research has an alternative solution which is the reuse of greywater (GW) which is extracted from hand washers, showers, and washing machines, which will go through a process of filtering and disinfection using UV rays for subsequent reuse through an automated ON-OFF control system. In this research, the VDI 2221 methodology will be carried out in which the design processes are applied to manufacture new systems, such as control improvements, among others. The software Tia Portal and Factory IO were used to visualize the sensors and actuators that simulate the filtering and filling of GW. Finally, it is concluded that the application of a control and automated system for the reuse of GW is of great importance to improve and optimize the use of water and th...

Several anthropogenic pressures are threatening biodiversity and may increase in the next years, altering ecological processes and ecosystem services. Biological collections offer a rich source of information to develop studies of functional ecology and biodiversity conservation. Key information related to morphology, physiology and life history could be obtained through functional traits provided by specimens in biological collections. Additionally, museum collections present a great potential for document changes of habitat disturbance, using response/effect framework, functional diversity measures, and fluctuating asymmetry approaches. Despite limitations of specimens in data such as abundance, imprecisions in specimen´s georeferencing, errors in taxonomic identification and the poor preservation state of some specimens, biological collections contain vast data banks, which could be ...
