The following document aims to present a handful of studies that develop the importance of social actors as one of the groups in charge of the preservation of architectural heritage, especially those involved in traditional commerce. Within this framework, traditional local traders are the actors who are most interested in the revitalization of historical centers. Many institutions, both public and private, currently encourage policies for the development of historical centers, such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). This essay aims to show the revitalization “from within” of Barrios Altos. In this sense, it explains the North American experience from the point of view of the Main Street program, which, since the early 1980s, has been developing successfully in small and medium towns in the United States. This program focuses on the revi...

In the decade of 1990, Peru lived through a national crisis, a result of the violence in the country and the decrease in the growth of the economy. In this context, the program Heritage for Development of the Spanish Cooperation began its work in the Historic Center of Lima. In a situation in which the priority is not the intervention in cultural assets, a project emerged that seeks to meet society’s different needs through the revaluation of the patrimony. Through this recovery process, there were attempts to instruct people in the craft of restoration, in order to later on include them in the project. The goal of the program at the time was the restoration of heritage and, with the creation of the Escuela Taller de Lima, the project expected to train the population in restoration and conservation work. When the Escuela Taller was introduced as part of the program, it included the soc...

Nevertheless, rates of deaths and diseases related to gestation remain unacceptably high, especially in developing countries. Objective: To describe the conditions of access to prenatal care in a primary care center in the city of Pasto, Nariño, Colombia. Methods: We conducted a descriptive, cross-sectional study. We interviewed twenty-four women with gestational age between 36 and 40 weeks, attending prenatal care at the Pandiaco Health Center, level I of care in Pasto City, Colombia, during the year 2015. The data obtained were analyzed with the statistical software SPSS 16.0 for Windows. Results: Approximately 50% of pregnant women had less than four prenatal care visits during pregnancy. Objective. To determine the association between the application of the Rehabilitation Program (RP) and the Functional Performance (DF) of patients with Parkinson's disease at the "Cirujano Mayor Santiago Távara" Naval Medical Center. Methods. Analytical, longitudinal, retrospective cohort study, in 18 months. By means of a sample of 46 patients, in two cohorts, functional performance was determined by dimensions of basic activities (Barthel indexes), strength and endurance (SPPB) and walking speed. Five values or categories were used to determine dependency, frailty and incoordination. Normality was determined using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and for statistical analysis the Mann- Whitney U was used, where a value of p <0.05 was considered significant. Results. The mean age of patients was 79 +/- 3 years (range: 76-82) of the exposed cohort and 72 +/- 3 years (69-75) of the cohort n...

Objective: To assess the effectiveness of an oral health intervention project in Oxapampa, Peru, from April to July 2023. Materials and methods: This longitudinal study involved 135 primary education students from the I.E. Bardo Bayerle educational institution. The research focused on two main variables: dental caries experience, measured using the DMFT index and dmft, and oral hygiene, assessed through the Simplified Oral Hygiene Index (OHI). Both descriptive and bivariate statistical analyses were conducted. Results: At the initial assessment, the OHI was 1.42 (SD = 0.68). By the conclusion of the study, this value had decreased to 0.45 (SD = 0.29), with the reduction being statistically significant (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Positive results were achieved in the oral health intervention project "Let's Smile Together" in Oxapampa, Peru, from April to July 2023.

Climacteric women present a series of inconveniences due to hormonal disorders, that, associated with demographic characteristics, impacts on lifestyles and socio-cultural aspects, inducing these climacteric women to receive hormone therapy among other gynecological indications. In order to solve this problem we have done a prospective quasi-experimental and transversal investigation, in order to know the effect of the psychoprophylactic program for the menopause, on sexual behavior, and knowledge on preventive health. We have selected 42 users of the Health Center of Jacobo Dixon Hunter, from 38 to 55 years, which were distributed in two groups: an experimental group (EG) and a control group (CG), to whom we have applied a pre-test at the start in both groups. The EG Group was given six educational theoretical and practical classes, after which a post test was applied to both EG and CG ...

This paper presents estimates of the discard excess catch in the industrial purse seine fisheries of the North-Center stock of the Peruvian anchoveta (Engraulis ringens). Discard excess catch is defined as the portion of the catch that is thrown into the sea when has captured more than the hold capacity can store. The analysis is based on the “On-board observer of the purse seine vessels program” led by the Instituto del Mar del Peru (IMARPE), and in the period 2005 – 2014, 5837 trips were sampled, corresponding to 1.6% of the total trips. The methodologies used in the discard excess catch estimation were: Generalized Linear Model (GLM) and Delta Model. The estimations showed difference in magnitudes but similar trends, although the delta model appears to be a better alternative procedure for estimating the discard excess catch. The Delta Model estimated the purse seine fisheries d...

Materials and Methods: Quasi experimental design, longitudinal section. The sample consisted of two groups, 27 in the control group and 27 in the experimental group, selected by non-probabilistic sampling, the program lasted 2 months and a pre and post test was applied. The instruments used for data collection were adapted by the researchers, a questionnaire was used for the level of knowledge validated with a KR-20 of 0.80 and to measure the practices it was an observation guide that reached a KR20 of 0.81. Results: It shows that the educational program was effective in the knowledge and practices of self -care in adult patients with Diabetes Mellitus with a p-value of 0....

The article analyzes the uses and interpretations of the services of a Senior Activity Center program (Centros del Adulto Mayor - CAM) by its users and the professionals who direct it in a low-income urban district of Lima, Peru. Based on ethnographic research, and revealed the way a public policy builds an «ideal old age» which is promoted by their services. This is not passively assumed by the professionals who implement the program locally. They reinterpret their guidelines based on their common sense and experience which generates contradictions and a partial reproduction of prejudices related to old age. On the other hand, users use the program as a mechanism to deal with moments of crisis that were experienced at this stage of their lives. Also to oppose the hegemonic discourse of old age that doesn’t satisfy them. The CAM offers these opportunities but they don’t benefit all...

Telemedicine describes the electronic delivery of medical data for diagnosis, treatment and medical education to the patient at home through the use of information and communication technologies. In just a few weeks, the current global situation related to COVID-19 has generated unprecedented pressures on the health system and transformed the practice of palliative care. The National Center for Pain Control and Palliative Care's home visiting program adopted the teleconsultation modality in March 2020 and a pilot plan for evaluating telemonitoring technology was established. During the initial evaluation period between March and July 2020, a physician specializing in Palliative Medicine reviewed the vital signs within 24 hours of transmission and conducted a teleconsultation of the patient allowing analysis of the data received. A total of 14 patients were monitored for an average of 10....
