The present work intends to show that Edith Stein’s phenomenological position, in On the problem of empathy and in Introduction to philosophy, can characterize her philosophy as carrier of the germ of a ”theological turn”, from the early phenomenological era. We consider three key points to signal this turn. These are the ideas of i) original consciousness and passivity, ii) the limit of human knowledge, and iii) empathy towards God. In the treatment of these ideas, we can appreciate how Edith Stein’s phenomenology makes its way towards a certain transcendence, hence the encounter with theology is natural, or that there are theological developments of phenomenology.

The profound vital and intellectual unity of Edith Stein’s philosophical itinerary begins with a concept that permeates in her activity since the be ginning: philosophy understood as a rigorous science; it is then articulated around a theory of knowledge established during her phenomenological period and presupposed in her dialogue with the classical tradition; finally, it crystallizes in an anthropological ontology that had been the primary object of her philosophical vocation and that was performed between the purely phenomenological period and the encounter with the philosophia perennis. The aim of this article is to offer a summary introduction to his life and intellectual development by reviewing her work within the framework of the main milestones of her personal history.

In this paper, Edith Stein's conception of women is analyzed from the perspective of philosophical anthropology, with a predominantly phenomenological approach. Her ideas are presented as a foundation for contemporary philosophical reflection on women, seen as a person who possesses unquestionable dignity. Likewise, the topicality of her approaches is highlighted, mainly what Edith Stein called the “feminine specific”.

This paper discusses the close similarities between Husserl’s, Scheler’s and Stein’s concept of the person as an absolute value that exercises itself in position-takings. Ethics, for the classical phenomenologists, Husserl, Scheler, and Stein, concerns the whole person, including the affective and rational dimensions, intellect and the heart, as well as volition. Persons are distinctive for their free agency, capacity to recognize norms, and ability to interact responsibly with other personal agents in the context of the communal and historical life-world.

Edith Eger vividly illustrates the intricate relationship between pain and the ability to reconcile it with personal freedom, emphasizing that in any situation, we can embrace our suffering and continue to strive. “Saying yes to life” is intertwined with finding meaning in it. The works of Viktor Frankl opened Eger's eyes to this reality, where paradoxical elements often negatively impact many people's lives. Frankl and Eger extend beyond psychological description by valuing methods to confront suffering and frustration, delving into profound philosophical concepts, apart from choice and meaning. Eger unequivocally asserts that life is a gift and describes the pursuit of meaning as a personal mission, aligning with an ethical framework centered on the question regarding what kind of person each one wants to be. Within this psychological and anthropological context, the contributions ...
