The handling of external operational loss data by individual banks is one of the longstanding problems in risk management theory and practice. The extant literature has not provided a method to identify the best way to combine internal and external operational loss data to calculate operational risk capital. Hence, to improve the knowledge and understanding of internal-external data combination in operational risk management, this study applied a simulation-based evaluation of well-known data combination techniques such as the scaling, the Bayesian, and the covariate-base techniques. This research considered operational losses arising from internal fraud in retail banking within a group of international banks that share data through an operational loss data exchange. One of the key elements of the simulation-based statistical evaluation was the development of a dynamic internal fraud mod...

Data envelopment analysis is a non-parametric practical method to compute efficiency on decision making units. The present work applies DEA on then branch network of one of the most important peruvian banks with a Lingo optimization model and a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. The problem is solved under two approaches (financial/management and selling) in order to compute both global and technical efficiency of each individual branch. Additionally, a ranking system (based on average efficiency, time-windows analysis and benchmark-solution recurrence) is proposed as a management tool for the direction teams.

Currently, one of the worrying problems in vehicular traffic is the large number of cars making left turns at intersections. This phenomenon has generated various challenges in terms of road safety, traffic fluidity and transportation efficiency. To face this situation, today, alternative and innovative solutions are being proposed through the design of unconventional intersections. One of these is the displaced left turn (DLT) intersection. However, given that intersections of this type are few in Peru, it is necessary to evaluate the operational performance of this type of intersections. Therefore, this study evaluates the operability of DLTs using a scenario comparison study based on selected performance measures. For this, the case of a conventional intersection in the city of Lima is evaluated, in which the DLT was implemented in two accesses that have a greater flow of vehicles. Th...

In this article, we prove the existence and uniqueness of the solution of the homogeneous  generalized Schrödinger equation of order m in the periodic distributional space P0, where m is an even number not a multiple of four. Furthermore, we prove that the solution depends continuously respect to the initial data in P0. Introducing a family of weakly continuous operators, we prove that this family is a group in P0. Then, with this family of operators, we get a fine version of the existence and dependency continuous theorem obtained. Finally, we give the conclusions and remarks derived from this study.

This is a famous problem from the annals of literature in operations research. G. Dantzig in [1] refers to W.W. Jacobs with his paper "The Caterer Problem" Nav. Log Res. Quart. 1 1954; as well as Gaddum, Hoffman and Sokolowsky "On the Solution of the Caterer Problem" Naval Res Logist. Quart., Vol.1, No. 3, september, 1954, and William Prager "On the Caterer Problem" of Management Sci, Vol 3, No. 1 october 1956 and Management Sci, Vol 3, No. 2 january 1957. Subsequently both G. Hadley presents the subject in his "Linear Prograrriming" [2], as Walter Garvin in his Introduction as Linear Programming "presented the topic.

The research problem arose from the need to implement a system to remotely manage the traffic operations of the network of traffic lights to reduce vehicular congestion. The procedure involved designing the placement of electronic sensors to track the number of vehicles in the area. This allowed for the testing of different operational strategies for modifying the timing of the traffic light signals. A simulation model was used to test these strategies in seven intersections on Av. Petit Thouars in Lima, between Av. Alejandro Tirado and Av. 28 de Julio. Detectors were installed at the access points of secondary access streets to the main road (Av. Petit Thouars) which yielded cumulative positive results. Alternatives 1 and 2 produced a 59% reduction in queues, thus demonstrating the validity of the general hypothesis.

Radioisotope techniques are highly useful tools to investigate variety of problems in oil & gas refining and petrochemical industry. Major techniques and applications are in routine service to industry of many countries. Gamma-ray scanning, often referred to as “column scanning”, is a convenient, cost effective, fast, efficient and non-intrusive technique to examine inner details of a process column or a reaction vessel, while it is in operation. Column scanning allows an engineer in petroleum refineries, gas processing installations and chemical plants, to study tray or packing hydraulics inside a distillation column at any set of on-line condition. It provides essential data to optimize the performance of columns, extend column run times, trackthe performance-deteriorating effects of fouling and solids deposition, and identify maintenance requirements well in advance of schedul...

The Business Alliance for Secure Commerce (BASC) management system is a strategy to strengthen the security and efficiency of companies in the logistics sector by preventing illegal activities such as smuggling and drug trafficking. The problem lies in the need to evaluate its impact on operational efficiency and security. Prior to its implementation, the company had deficiencies in traceability, regulatory compliance and security, and employees did not have a clear understanding of the impact of this system on these aspects. To assess this impact, a mixed methodology was used, combining a document review and a questionnaire structured in five key sections: general data, perception of safety, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and challenges and benefits of the system. The results indicate improvements in performance indicators: on-time deliveries increased from 88 % to 96 %,...

The aim of this study is to identify the criteria that the industrial engineer or manager as decision maker, applied to solve problems, for which you design the conceptual model approach to soft systems methodology and experimental design to validate the influence of criterion in the choice of the manager or decisor maker. Within the rational framework used in the management of organizations, the industrial engineer try to identify the criteria, as decision maker, applied to choose among options, and resolve problem situations of the various scenarios in which it operates and holds roles. The enterprise considers four types of decisional macrocriteria, related to the stage and the decision maker's perspective, they may include: a) Position, based on human nature, b) Optimization based on the achievement and action in the world real, c) Satisfaction, based on social regulation and behavio...

Business intelligence under data treatment is consolidated in one of the differentiating factors between organizations. Business intelligence (BI) solutions are not only applicable for commercial purposes, they are also used to measure the performance and fulfillment of goals in organizations. The objective of this research is to apply an adaptive BI model in order to diagnose the real state of the organization and formulate from it improvement plans capable of raising the levels of performance and profits of the same. The application of the adaptive model resulted in the establishment of coordination between Information Technology solutions and the organizational culture of organizations. It was also established that private organizations have achieved a better position of maturity due to their horizontal operating policies. The exploratory method has the perspective of pointing out imp...

This study aimed to determine the relationship between the implementation of a strategic maintenance plan and the operability of the telecommunications system at Hospital Docente Clínico Quirúrgico Daniel Alcides Carrión in Huancayo. A total of 33 hospital managers were included in the study population. The research approach is mixed and was applied to specific problems, circumstances and characteristics. A non-experimental, intentional, cross-sectional and descriptive-correlational design was used. A correlation coefficient of .656 with a p value = .000 < .01 was obtained for variables “implementation of the Strategic Maintenance Plan” and “operability of a telecommunications system of Hospital Docente Clínico Quirúrgico Daniel Alcides Carrión”. The results demonstrate that the implementation of a strategic maintenance plan guarantees the correct operation of a hospital...

This study proposes the application of a ludic and practical experience, which includes the use of the standard operation sheet tool for the purpose of improving the teaching and learning of standardized work. In this way, the study helps to solve the problem of the communication of standards in companies, and improve the capabilities and competences of Industrial Engineering students. The study is applied and relational. It was aimed at comparing the difference in the assembly cycle time of a pegboard before and after teaching and learning the operation sheet standard, by means of a parametric repeated measures test, in order to verify if the assembly cycle time decreases. The results obtained confirmed the research hypothesis, reduced the variability of communication of the standard and improved the integration of teamwork.
