The main objective of this research is to deepen our understanding of the concept of cooperative interaction under conditions of asynchronous mediation in virtual learning. The study starts with the basic assumption that technology is not a neutral component in an interaction (Person–Machine–Person). It follows; therefore, that a change in the way of perceiving interaction may be created by the way manoeuvrability is facilitated via the internet and the framework of virtuality. The research methodology examines the cooperative asynchronous interaction as two different but complementary processes. The initial, theoretical exploration is designed to understand the psychological, pedagogical and technological factors under which cooperation in virtual learning is generated. The subsequent, empirical exploration is designed to observe –via a triangulation of the data– how the coopera...

This article analyzes the results of a Lesson Study (LS) focused on mathematics teaching, implemented through Interactive Groups (IG) within learning communities. The analysis is framed as a case study involving 36 preservice teachers and is based on data collected through questionnaires, microcapsules, and portfolios. The information was interpreted to identify the contributions of LS to the training process of preservice teachers (PTs), as well as the role of IGs in organizing collaborative work. The findings highlight how LS enhances PTs’ reflective processes regarding what and how to teach. Furthermore, classroom management through IGs facilitates meaningful interaction and experiential learning among group members.

This article develops a robust platform for remote process management.JAVA language is used as a programming language at three levels of development: Control Servers, Web Server and Web Clients. The interaction with the control servers will be through the serial port and/or parallel port depending on the requirement. Thus we can interact with any specialized control device: A microcontroller, a PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), a DSP (Digital Signal Processor) or sophisticated sensors that send data through the aforementioned ports, theLocal network of Control servers ensure the reliability and proper functioning of our processes. The exit door to the Internet will be the "Web Servers", which serve clients; Such a client does not have direct access to the system, until it has verified its privileges. The information thatjourney through the Web is encrypted. Using a microcontroller we w...

The idea that there is no precedence for the amount of data that is being generated today, and that the need to explore and analyze this vast volumes of data has become an increasingly difficult task that could benefit from using Data visualization is presented. It is pointed that the goals of data visualization are data-driven and depend largely on the type of application, but the final objective is to convey to people information that is hidden in large volumes of data. Finally, the visualization pipeline is presented to review aspects of visualization methodology and visualization tool design, to conclude that the true potential of visualization emerge from the interaction of the user with the visualization model. The paper concludes establishing that the current processes of digital transformation will increase the need for visual analytics tools.

The underrepresentation of women in STEM fields needs to be highlighted through data to assist decisionmakers and public policy creators in addressing the issue effectively. However, the lack of structured, organized data published openly in this domain is still a reality. To address this problem, a Latin American research network called ELLAS was created. The project’s goal is to develop a platform with Semantic Web-based technologies to structure and concentrate data from Brazil, Peru, and Bolivia, initially. This paper presents the processes defined for the collection and curation of both unstructured and structured data, sourced from scientific articles, social networks, and existing open data. We explore the architecture design in a way that facilitates understanding of the details of the processes and the actors involved for each data source. We present the preliminary results fr...

As the adverse impacts of hydrological extremes increase in many regions of the world, a better understanding of the drivers of changes in risk and impacts is essential for effective flood and drought risk management and climate adaptation. However, there is currently a lack of comprehensive, empirical data about the processes, interactions, and feedbacks in complex human–water systems leading to flood and drought impacts. Here we present a benchmark dataset containing socio-hydrological data of paired events, i.e. two floods or two droughts that occurred in the same area. The 45 paired events occurred in 42 different study areas and cover a wide range of socio-economic and hydro-climatic conditions. The dataset is unique in covering both floods and droughts, in the number of cases assessed and in the quantity of socio-hydrological data. The benchmark dataset comprises (1) detailed rev...

It would not be wrong to say that a transformation has started in education as in all fields since the 2000s when the Internet began to spread. In the traditional education model, the student-centered learning models take the place of the teacher understanding that stores the information in itself, directing the student to different sources and competing with each student. According to Prensky, the generation of the so-called digital natives, who was born after 1980, has its own characteristics, its propensity to technology and digital media, contrasts with the teacher from the traditional education model. It would not be wrong to say that traditional educators, whose learning processes take place in the library environment, are replaced by educators who direct the students to digital environments where millions of information can be accessed with a single click and who design their cour...

The objective of this study is to explore the perceptions of university students regarding the use of Second Life as a collaborative virtual reality platform for learning science subjects. A cross-sectional non-experimental descriptive analytical empirical research design was employed, utilizing quantitative techniques to gather data from 123 students regarding their experiences with immersion. The results reveal that students exhibited genuine engagement with the virtual environment, displaying high levels of interaction and motivation, which in turn increased their level of participation in immersive activities. These findings suggest that incorporating science content into a virtual world offers diverse didactic possibilities and encourages new forms of engagement among participants in educational processes. The study highlights the potential of virtual reality for enhancing higher ed...

The hydrocarbon transport industry combines its technical activities with the integrity of the installed operating systems, in addition to the implementation of safety measures for pipelines against failures and leakage of dangerous liquids. Thus, the risk control management model in all product shipment processes arises, which aligns the configuration of technical standards to operate pipelines in compliance with the prevention of substandard conditions and actions, which derive from the obligation to maintain pipeline integrity (installed capacity). This gives origin to a certain level of risk control management, as an achievement of the maximum level of conformity with the facilities, which ensures that all operating units achieve the development of new concepts of proactive, not reactive, work, in the face of unplanned disasters. In this study, significant risk levels were reduced fr...

The objective of this research is to evaluate the impact of using the simulators on students’ achievement of competencies, such as: Inquire, through scientific methods to build knowledge. The methodology used consisted of qualitative research whose data collection was carried out through an experiment with interactive Physics Educational Technology (PhET) simulators. The experiment was carried out through a simple random sampling of 25 students from a population of 100 students of physics subjects. With this sample, four learning sessions were developed using the PhET interactive simulator, which were implemented in a way that helped the development of skills according to learning indicators oriented to the achievement of the competence, Inquire, through scientific methods to build knowledge. A pretest and a posttest were applied. The results of the study show the benefits of the use o...
