In the construction industry, productivity is sought to improve by innovating time management, a poor indicator in projects where activities are executed conventionally. In this sense, the research aims to evaluate the consequences of delays in projects and how to optimize time by incorporating the Lean Construction model. The procedure considers the review of bibliographic material, articles, construction magazines and projects that propose innovating time management with the Lean Construction model through the tools Last Planner System (LPS), productivity balance sheet, productive work (TP). , contributory work (TC), non-contributory work (TNC), percentage of parts completed (PPC) and application of the 5”s” tool. The results found that support the article correspond to the Barranco 360° project located in Lima that includes information on the productivity balance chart close to 8...

The article presents the results about processes related to project management, with the aim of proposing a methodology based on Lean Construction and the fundamentals of the PMBOK Guide; that allows to improve the productivity of construction projects. The methodology obtained from integrating the Last Planner Planning scenario, the planning process group, as well as the PMI scenario monitoring and control process group (Fundamentals of the PMBOK Guide); will optimize the factors that affect the planning and monitoring and control of construction projects by improving their productivity; reflected in the improvement of the quality, time and cost of the project. The optimization of the Sub-profile profiling process without material input generated great results (outputs) such as the reduction of the time (execution period) from 98 days to 68 days and the reduction of the cost of S/. 255,...

The Peruvian AEC industry has started implementing VDC and BIM in public projects due to recent regulations that state the progressive adoption of BIM (as a methodology) in public construction. Regardless of the benefits of these new approaches, some challenges to VDC implementation have emerged as a response to the resistance to change of the Peruvian AEC industry, which is stronger in the Peruvian public sector. The aim of this paper is to present the challenges found in the author´s VDC implementation experience in a public project, as part of the third VDC Certificate Program in Lima lead by CIFE from Stanford University. These challenges will be identified based on a schema, constructed by the literature review. The results show that the main challenges found are the lack of commitment and the lack of collaboration between stakeholders. These results suggest the need to overcome th...

At the beginning of 2020, a virus discovered in the province of Wuhan in China identified as SARS- COV-2, denominated COVID-19, began to spread globally, being identified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a pandemic on March 13 since the epidemic has spread to several countries in all the continents and affects a large number of people (WHO 2020). In Peru the entry of COVID-19 caused the Peruvian government to take different options to control its spread such as mandatory quarantines and lockdowns. In front of this scenario, the Architecture Engineering and Construction (AEC) sector had to reinvent itself since it is a sector where work depends on a significant amount of personnel (IPE 2020). Furthermore, the level of industrialization in Peru is significantly lower compared with industrialized countries, generating that the consumption of labor is greater as well as the cost of ...

This article was developed with the purpose of generating new knowledge about the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) in the identification of occupational risks in construction projects in Peru. This work seeks to demonstrate the importance of unmanned aerial vehicles in preventive management, generating privileged aerial information from various work areas in reduced time and producing added value in occupational risk management compared to traditional methods. The unmanned aerial vehicle generates valuable information that allows different work areas to be examined in real time and to promptly detect substandard acts and conditions that may affect workers. Currently in Peru, there is little information on the use of unmanned aerial vehicles in occupational risk management; Therefore, this study has revealed favorable results on the relationship that exists between the unmanned a...

In recent years, in Latin America, reference has been frequently made to “collaborative” contracts. However, there is no common understanding of what this term means and the relevant international discussion and development. This article seeks to establish the framework of the discussion on alternatives available to increase productivity in the construction industry and how this has led to seeing the contract as a useful tool to promote said process.

Construction companies are responsible for purchasing materials for the execution of construction projects, which consist of different stages; however, many times the materials do not arrive on time at the construction site. The material supply process is important within construction projects as it directly impacts the budget and schedule of the work. However, one of the most influential factors causing the delay in the delivery of material is the lack of a logistics plan for the supply of material in small companies. However, this leads to delays in the progress and delivery of the work. For this reason, this research focuses on ensuring the delivery time of construction materials in small construction companies for multi-family housing construction projects, specifically in the supply of materials through the use of the Just in Time and Kitting methodology, applying the use of an ERP....

The objective of this study was to The Use of Multi-Criteria Decision Making to Introduce and Rank of Design Criteria of Reward in Construction Projects. In this research, the design criteria of rewards in construction projects are ranked. In the present study, in order to identify and rank the criteria of employee reward allocation the methods of Demetel and expansion of the performance of fuzzy quality in two steps were used. the results showed that the professional ethics is the most important criterion for reward allocation to the employees in the construction projects. Results show that considering the work environment of construction projects, maintaining discipline and having organizational commitment and helping others is very important. Also, having the spirit of teamwork and cooperation with others is very important for working in such environments. One of the notable points in...

The purpose of this paper is to address a first approach to the execution of construction supervision contracts in public projects in Peru mains issues and challenges faced in the execution of construction supervision contracts, signed under Peruvian regulations for quality control and technical support in the contractual management of the construction of public works under the regime general and/or in the execution of concession contracts. Given the importance of these contracts in the development at the engineering or construction stage of an infrastructure investment project, their regulation, and the correct understanding of the nature of the provision of these specialized services is the central object of the present article. We briefly analyze the background of the figure of the “work supervisor” in Peruvian regulations, to identify its purpose and its scope in public work...

The research aims to determine that artificial intelligence is related to the management of public investment projects in Peru. This is demonstrated thanks to the study consisting of a literature review and the design of a survey, with a census sample. According to the results of the Spearman test, the described hypotheses are proved and as a contribution, an optimization model for project prioritization (MOPP) is proposed.

Learning-centered models, which rely on active methodologies such as Project-Based Learning (PBL), should be adopted in undergraduate programs to potentiate the development of collaboration skills within future industry professionals like civil engineers. Thus, this study reports the implementation of PBL in two successive Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) courses from an undergraduate civil engineering program: 1) VDC I, in which the VDC methodology implementation was applied theoretically in an already-built project, and 2) VDC II, in which the VDC methodology implementation was applied in a currently-under-construction project. The study's objective is to identify students' perceptions of PBL influence on their learning experience, degree of acquisition of generic competencies, and project development under the VDC methodology. To assess the PBL and VDC implementation, a survey wa...

Construction projects are constantly threatened by delays and cost overruns that might compromise their viability. Th us, identifying the leading causes of these issues based on the experience of experienced professionals is essential to planning and reducing these risks. Th is research evaluates the frequency and severity of variables causing delays and cost overruns in Colombian Caribbean Region road projects. Th e nine causes studied in this research were defined through a literature review, preliminary discussion and a pilot test. A survey directed to 42 road construction engineers allowed the authors to characterise these professionals’ perceptions regarding the frequency and severity of these variables in terms of delay and cost overruns, with a confidence level of 80%. Statistical analyses were applied to the results of the survey to establish which variables generate the most s...
