In this paper I study the dynamic implications of household decisions that determine fertility and human capital accumulation with a theoretical model built on that of Hazan and Berdugo (2002). The links between the allocation of children's time, together with material resources towards child quality components, such as nutrition and the process of economic development are explored. I ive emphasis to investment in child quality because it has not previously been treated together with allocation of children's time in a dynamic setting. However these need to be dealt with together since they enable us explicitly to consider the possibility that human capital can be accumulated beyond the point at which child labor is effectively (rationally) eliminated, and even beyond that when fertility transition is concluded. I also show that this result can hold even in the absence of altruistic paren...

IThe objective of this article is to disseminate outstanding research that has been carried out during the last ten years in the field of the School Adaptation Process for children under 3 years. This is a critical period to which our children are exposed given the increasing participation of women in the workplace. This process explains the child's transition from a home life with personalized attention from parents or substitutes surrounded by much affection for an educational environment. In this work a review of the subject is made by dividing it into four factors that can determine the quality of such adaptation: family overprotection of the child, child attachment, change of environment, and the role of parents. This data is expected to be useful for researchers interested in exploring, describing, correlating, and explaining the socio-emotional dynamics in which this interesting p...

This research contributes to the curricular study in early childhood from a participatory perspective, understanding that its development in each context is unique and particular, for this reason, it sought to know the discourses of Second Level School Transition boys and girls about their participation in the Living Curriculum. The research was approached from a comprehensive qualitative approach and a phenomenological design. Individual interviews with educators and group interviews with boys and girls were conducted, the latter using the photo-elicitation technique. Among the main results, they highlight that, from the perspective of boys and girls, a simple participation in Educational Establishments would be developed, evidencing that they would not be an active part of the construction of their teaching and learning processes. In relation to the results of the educators, it is evid...

Talking about the hospitalization of a newborn is a complex process, although the care of the newborn is guaranteed in the neonatal unit. Who guarantees the well-being of the mother of the hospitalized newborn during their stay in the neonatal unit? and especially during her postpartum period; which can be physiological or surgical with or without complications, who provides holistic care to help make the transition of this process more bearable? Her physical, emotional and psychological recovery, added to the hospitalization of her newborn child, create an imbalance in her well-being. Therefore, nursing professionals and/or a multidisciplinary health team must provide care to the mother of a newborn hospitalized in the neonatal unit, because the mother, in addition to experiencing the postpartum process, may experience suffering when leaving her child hospitalized. Given this, the objec...

Nutrition transition is a process including changes in the nutritional profile of populations. Many developing countries, including Peru, are in transition. Objectives: The aim of this study was to describe the variation of the nutritional profile of Peruvian children, mothers in reproductive age and families between 1991 and 2005. Material and methods: using available information from databases from Peruvian Health and Demographic National Surveys, between 1991 and 2005, we described the prevalence of malnutrition in Peruvian children less than 5 years of age, mothers in reproductive age, and families, at the national, regional, and socioeconomic level, and by residence area (urban/rural). Results: Stunting in children has been high and constant since 1996. Overweight in children has increased, mainly in Lima and the Coast. Overweight and obesity are the main nutritional problems of mot...

In Peru, the ratification of “The Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW)” that takes place in the beginnings of the 80’s is part of a transition process not only in the political front, but also between two generations of women activists. One of which was represented by a group of professionals called to take an active role in the political front, women such as former deputy and first PUCP woman lawyer, Matilde Pérez Palacio as well as other founders of NGO’s focused on child protection and abandoned mothers, such as María Vita de Alvarez. Prestigious group of professionals linked to “Consejo Nacional de Mujeres”, founded in 1923, such as Sara Pérez Palacio, or Olga Paredes Lañas de De Olarte, just to name a few. This is the generation of women called to give a positive outlook towards the ratification of CEDAW -among which...

The aim of the present study was to examine the relationship between students’ cognitive and self-regulatory strategies, academic engagement, and academic achievement in higher education, analyzing the mediating role of reading comprehension. Different tasks to assess the constructs were administered to 209 students (Mage = 21.71; SD = 4.36). The students' GPA was used as a measure of academic achievement. Significant associations were found between cognitive and self-regulation strategies, academic engagement, reading comprehension, and students' GPA. In addition, a positive association was found between cognitive and self-regulation strategies and academic engagement. Finally, the structural equation model showed that cognitive and self-regulation strategies and academic engagement have direct effects on students' GPA. Additionally, an indirect effect of cognitive and self-regulation...

The purpose of this instrumental design study was to analyze the psychometric evidence of the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) for its application in university students in Metropolitan Lima. A total of 520 students participated, 292 women (56%) and 228 men (44%), between 18 and 61 years of age (M = 24.89, SD = 5.17). The confirmatory factor analysis showed acceptable values for the bifactor model: χ2/gl = 4.645, CFI = .99, TLI = .98, SRMR = .027, RMSEA = .084 (90% C.I., .072, .096) and WRMR = .99. Additionally, a value of H = .945, PUC = .727, ECV = .695 and the ωH = .85 were obtained for the general factor. Convergent validity was examined with the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES) (r = .50; r2 = .25) and divergent validity with the Test Anxiety Inventory-State (TAI-State) (r = -.32; r2 = .10). In addition, reliability was determined through the ordinal ome...
