The task of the university professor is a mission and not simply a profession and that is why higher education should be impregnated with values. Nowadays education is articulated into three areas: the State, the Market and the Volunteering, but no one of these three sectors by themselves has covered the needs of all the citizens, there have always been losers, therefore the conjunction of the three sectors became necessary. Communitarianism promotes an ethical-social pact that favors the progress of society without nullifying the individual dimension. It believes that the university is the space where a communitarian consciousness should be promoted to generate a social capital by means of education and it is a privilege place to substantiate the moral identity of the person beginning with the commitment of the professor with the university student.

This study aims to know how the training processes of practicing teachers contribute to the construction of beliefs about teaching at the university. Froma qualitative methodology with agrounded theory approach, professors from public and private universities were selected through theoretical sampling. In-depth interviews were conducted to collect data whichwere analytically coded. Among the results it was found that the teachers' beliefs come frominstitutional training of a normative typewhich emphasizes a functional teaching in didactic techniques, use of technology and innovation, excluding training in knowledge of the discipline they teach. Thus,it was also found that teachers carry out self-training processes on a personal initiativefor updating scientific knowledgeand develop their practices teaching with strategies that they themselves use to learn, because they believe in their o...

University teachers are involved in a work environment where they interact with people (bosses, colleagues, students, etc.) and situations that can cause stress. The main objective of this research was to know the relationship between psychosocial risk factors and the stress perceived by university teachers. The focus of the work was quantitative, the design was correlational and transversal; the sample consisted of 117 university teachers from Lima, Peru. The results indicated that perceived stress is positively related to psychological demands, active work, compensations and double presence of the teachers; however, an inverse relationship was found between stress and social support received. The data showed that teachers who work by contract have a higher level of stress and that the main symptoms experienced are tiredness, not being able to sleep, headaches, poor concentration and va...

In the present study, the manifestations of burnout syndrome in school and university professors living in the city of Arequipa were analyzed comparatively. A total of 413 intentionally selected professors were evaluated, and the Maslach Burnout Inventory was applied. It yielded adequate levels of reliability for our sample and three factors obtained through confirmatory factorial analysis, confirming the theory of Maslach and Jackson (1981). It was found that there are significant differences in terms of sex, marital status and teaching level of teachers, resulting in higher levels of exhaustion for female teachers at school level and moderate levels of depersonalization for university teachers, in whom negative correlations were obtained regarding the number of children and the burnout syndrome.

This study examined the professoriate view of spirituality at a private university in Lima, Peru. A two-phase, sequential mixed method was used. Two hundred forty professors completed Paloutzian and Ellison’s (1982) Spiritual Well-Being Scale (SWBS) for the quantitative phase. Five research questions exploring the professors’ gender, general area of teaching (humanities vs. sciences), highest university degree earned, age, and total years of university teaching experience were analyzed to determine if any significant differences existed within those variables. Two non-parametric tests were used: the Mann-Whitney U test and the Kruskal-Wallis Test. It was discovered only gender showed a significant difference. Five surveyed professors participated in the focus group phase exploring significant gender difference on the spiritual well-being scores. Five questions explored this ...

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is creating both opportunities and challenges in higher education. This article explores perceptions, concerns, barriers, and facilitators for integrating AI into academic activities. It focuses on a public university in Northern Peru, examining faculty opinions through interviews and focus groups. The findings show that faculty find generating texts and organizing activities with AI advantageous; however, some have concerns about its use, doubting its accuracy and truthfulness. They agree on discussing these changes and integrating them into the curriculum, seeking to overcome barriers through training to improve the perception and use of AI. Despite the potential and strong support of AI in the university, it is necessary to implement institutional measures.

The analysis of the conditions in which an individual starts a career in university teaching is the departure point of this work, whose core interest is the initiation period. With previous research about work insertion into the education sector as a reference, this paper discusses the relevance of support provided to staff in the initial stages of their work, as an opportunity to equip them with the training they lack. In that sense, the aim of this article was to describe the initiation experiences taking place during the first years of teaching of a group of five professors, with whom semi-structured interviews were carried out. A finding was that the work and training experiences of the professors at the time they started working at the university worked as resources to face the challenges presented by the educational task. In the same way, the direct experience and the models obtain...

The objective of the study was to identify the relationship between psychosocial factors of academic work and Burnout Syndrome in a public university in Mexico. In a sample of 247 academics from a public university in Mexico, an online battery was applied that was made up of an adaptation of the questionnaire Psychosocial Factors of Academic Work (FPSIS), the Questionnaire for the Evaluation of Burning Syndrome by Work for Educational Professionals (CESQT-PE) and a section on sociodemographics The high and/or critical prevalence of Burnout dimensions was around 30% at the same time as more than 90% showed high levels of illusion at work. Multivariate linear regression models showed a statistically significant relationship between all psychosocial factors and most Burnout dimensions independent of sex, age or marital status, reaching explained variances between 16% and 43%.
