The article aims to show that the University, in its identity and mission, has an essential feminine component. University is a feminine word, as it is "wisdom", "education" and "alma mater", pillars of a humanist University, today in crisis due to the predominance of a masculine model of knowledge (activist, technical and competitive). The feminine and the masculine are two complementary ways of being that permeate everything human and, consequently, the University. In the current moment of denial and confusion of identities, it is necessary to discover, strengthen and harmonize the masculine and the feminine in all fields and, in particular, the university, "the soul of civilization", because it is where power ideas born. This work is limited to "the feminine", waiting for another to complement it. The basis is a "dual anthropology", the only one capable of explaining the human and, th...

This study conducted a bibliometric review about tutoring and mentoring programs in Brazilian universities between 1998 and 2013 in order to map existing initiatives, configuration, objectives, key findings and relevance. After consulting CAPES Repositorium, SciELO, INDEXPsi e BVS-Psi, 31 papers were analyzed. Most studies in the area of health were conducted in public institutions with qualitative methods, in the southeast and northeast of Brazil. Results indicated positive evaluation of the experiences, and point to aspects to be considered in future projects.

Venezuelan universities develop in a changing and globalized word. They must fulfill what has been established in governmental policies regarding faculty development. This paper proposes a model for faculty development based on individual and societal needs.Design and implementation stages of the program are described in detail and followed by discussion of the importance of enough government support, university leaders’ commitment to efficient administration of funds and the implementation of programs that produced the changes needed by society.

This study explores the role and extent of academic autonomous learning among students from two public universities in central Ecuador. Recognizing the importance of self-directed learning in higher education, especially in post-pandemic contexts, the research aims to assess how students apply autonomous work strategies in their academic routines. A total of 158 students from four different academic programs participated in the study. Data were collected using the validated CETA instrument, which evaluates six dimensions of autonomous work: expansion, collaboration, conceptualization, planning, exam preparation, and participation. The research adopts a quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional approach. Statistical methods included descriptive analysis, Pearson correlations, t-tests, ANOVA, and Chi-square tests. The findings reveal a high level of internal consistency in the CETA d...

Despite improved higher education accessibility in low and middle-income countries (LMICs), challenges persist in student drop-out, especially for socio-economically disadvantaged students. While machine learning models have enhanced our understanding of this challenge by predicting academic performance, many studies overlook LMIC-specific institutional factors or focus on specific courses, limiting their generalizability and policy uses. To address these issues, the authors compiled a comprehensive database using administrative and census data to predict undergraduate academic performance at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP). The study found that the most effective models were tree-based ensembles, particularly Random Forest, with key predictors including prior secondary school performance and university admission test scores. They present a high-performing model using o...

This study explored the EFL teachers’ written corrective feedback (CF) techniques and their EFL students’ ability to integrate the CF while revising their texts. A total of 72 EFL students and 4 EFL teachers participated in this study. The data were collected through explicitation interviews administered to teachers and students, as well as through students’ written productions. A content analysis was carried out employing three pre-established categories: types of students’ errors (Guénette & Lyster, 2013), types of teachers’ feedback (Guénette, 2010), and types of students’ revisions (Ferris, 2006). Results showed that error identification with error code was the most frequent type of written CF used by the two teachers in the pre intermediate groups and one of the teachers in the upper intermediate group; whereas, the other teacher in the upper intermediate group used ma...

Universities play a pivotal role in modern society and must lead the way in achieving energy efficiency, directly contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Like small towns in resource consumption and population mobility, many universities and research centers face significant challenges transitioning to renewable electricity systems. This study aims to (i) map the current scientific literature on renewable energy sources used by universities; (ii) discuss the drivers, barriers, and trends of implementing renewable energy; and (iii) establish a connection with the SDGs. More specifically, the authors conducted a systematic literature review based on three stages: (i) data collection, (ii) bibliometric analysis, and (iii) content analysis. Forty-two articles were obtained and defined as the studied sample. The findings of this review illuminate critical research themes, le...

“Objective: We aimed to evaluate the association between sleep quality and erectile dysfunction in young university students. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted in men aged 18–30 years from Universidad Ricardo Palma, Lima, Peru. The survey comprised the International Index of Erectile Function, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, Berlin questionnaire, and questions related to sociodemographic data. Prevalence ratios were estimated with generalized linear models. Results: Of 381 participants, the median age was 23 years. Half of the students (50.9%) had poor sleep quality, of which 72.7% had mild erectile dysfunction and 20.6% mild to moderate dysfunction. Prevalence of erectile dysfunction was significantly higher in students with poor sleep quality than in students with good sleep quality (aPR = 6.48; 95% CI: 4.58–9.17) after adjusting for age, academic year, nutritional ...
