This study aims to analyze the different segments of urban tourism demand. The data were collected in Mexico City, Lima, Buenos Aires, and Bogota, and a K-means clustering method was used to find the segments. The results showed three segments: the first cluster grouped tourists interested in enjoying lodging and restaurant services; the second included visitors seeking multiple attractions, who were the most willing to recommend the destinations; finally, the third was composed of passive tourists, not drawn to the attractions of these cities. This study contributes to the literature by offering evidence of urban tourism segmentation in Latin American cities, which has been scarcely researched. Furthermore, it sheds light on this topic by finding a segment not previously described in the literature ("multiple attractions"). Finally, this study offers practical implications for managers ...

This research concentrated on pilgrimages within the context of religious tourism. It sought to accomplish the following goals: establish the main motivational factors in religious tourism, identify the relationship between sociodemographic aspects and motivations, and determine the relationship between the sociodemographic aspects of pilgrims with their satisfaction and loyalty. The study was conducted during the Christ of Miracles Pilgrimage in Lima, Peru. The sample consisted of 384 tourists who were surveyed on-site. The statistical techniques used included factorial and multiple regression analysis. The findings uncovered five motivational dimensions: religious experience, belief experience, escape experience, tourist experience, and shopping. The sociodemographic variables were correlated with the motivation for the escape experience, thus younger attendees, with higher educational...

The purpose of this research is to ascertain the motivating factors of demand, identify the demand’s segments, establish the correlation of tourist demand segments and their satisfaction and loyalty, and establish the connection between the segments and socio-demographic factors in coastal tourist destinations with cultural attractions. The empirical research was developed in Huanchaco, a coastal city of Peru famous for its traditional cultural attractions. The sample of this quantitative study consisted of 384 valid questionnaires collected on-site. The data was analyzed by exploratory factor analysis techniques and non-hierarchical K-means cluster analysis. The findings evidence four motivational dimensions: Novelty & social interaction, Sun & beach and nature, Culture and coastal experience, and Water sports. Furthermore, three demand segments were found: Eco-coastal, Multiple motiv...

Conducting research on food festivals is vital for advancing the development of tourist destinations. This study, conducted at the Bahrain Food Festival on the eastern coast of the Persian Gulf, aimed to achieve the following objectives: (1) To identify the motivational factors that drive visitors to food festivals and (2) to determine the relationship between these attendees’ sociodemographic characteristics and motivations. Motivations are often categorized as push factors (internal desires) and pull factors (external incentives). Three hundred eighty valid questionnaires were collected online from event attendees, and statistical techniques such as factor analysis and multiple regression were applied. The findings revealed five motivational dimensions associated with food festivals: Local cuisine, Art, Entertainment, Socialization, and Escape and Novelty. Moreover, some sociodemogra...

This study examines the intrinsic motivations driving tourist satisfaction and loyalty at Bahrain’s Spring of Culture Festival. Based on data from 389 valid surveys, a structural equation model using the partial least squares technique was applied to analyze causal relationships. The results identified cultural exploration, novelty, and socialization as the primary motivations influencing satisfaction. Among these, cultural exploration emerged as the most significant factor, highlighting tourists’ pursuit of enriching experiences. Novelty and socialization were also found to positively influence satisfaction by offering unique activities and opportunities for personal interaction. Satisfaction, in turn, showed a positive impact on loyalty, demonstrated in attendees’ intentions to return and share positive word-of-mouth about the festival. From a theoretical point of view, this stud...

Coastal tourism offers a wide variety of activities related to nature and culture in a sustainable environment. The present study in a coastal destination with cultural characteristics aims to (i) establish the dimensions of perceived value, (ii) determine the relationship between perceived value and satisfaction, and (iii) identify the relationship between perceived value and loyalty in variables such as return, recommendation, and word of mouth in a cultural coastal destination. This quantitative research used a sample of 384 valid questionnaires collected in Huanchaco, Peru, a city next to the Pacific Ocean, being a coastal destination with cultural potential. Factor analysis and multiple regression were applied for data analysis. The results show three dimensions of value perceived by tourists in coastal destinations: emotional and social value, economic value, and functional value. ...

Mexico City and Lima both have great cultural and historical value as they developed close to major pre-Columbian civilizations. When comparing their urban attractiveness factors, they present differences and similarities that need to be understood at a theoretical level. The study has practical implications as tourism officials and managers in each of these two cities can draw inspiration from the best practices of the other city. The method is quantitative, and the exploratory factorial analysis technique was used to reduce the variables in a group of factors. The results indicate that the different aspects of the cities’ tourism attractiveness can be categorized into four factors: the nucleus, the tourist ecosystem, MICE & shows, and related services. A comparison of the two cities’ Kruskal–Wallis test scores shows significant differences in terms of three variables: monuments a...

The research examines the negative consumer emotions generated by the perception of social networks or traditional media with consumer behavior during the covid_19 pandemic. The study was developed in Peru with a sample of 220 consumers; the design is quantitative and structural equations were used for data processing. The results indicate that social networks and traditional media are not related to negative emotions, but are related to the change in consumer behavior in the purchase of more products and new products. The research has theoretical implications since it provides evidence to the literature that the negative emotions generated during the covid_19 pandemic are related to changes in consumer behavior, which affect the purchase of more products and new products. The practical implications of the research is for businessmen on the causes of changes in consumer behavior generate...

This study explores the role and extent of academic autonomous learning among students from two public universities in central Ecuador. Recognizing the importance of self-directed learning in higher education, especially in post-pandemic contexts, the research aims to assess how students apply autonomous work strategies in their academic routines. A total of 158 students from four different academic programs participated in the study. Data were collected using the validated CETA instrument, which evaluates six dimensions of autonomous work: expansion, collaboration, conceptualization, planning, exam preparation, and participation. The research adopts a quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional approach. Statistical methods included descriptive analysis, Pearson correlations, t-tests, ANOVA, and Chi-square tests. The findings reveal a high level of internal consistency in the CETA d...

This study examines the key factors that influence tourists’ perceptions of destination quality and loyalty in the context of adventure tourism in Santa Elena, Ecuador, an emerging destination in Latin America. A quantitative approach was used, with data collected through an online questionnaire completed by 318 participants. Structural equation modeling was conducted using SmartPLS 4 to examine the relationships between motivational constructs (intellectual curiosity, health assurance, stress relief, physical condition, and social connection), perceived destination quality, and loyalty. The findings reveal that health assurance (β = 0.395, p < 0.001), stress relief (β = 0.417, p < 0.001), and intellectual curiosity (β = 0.143, p = 0.010) significantly influence perceived destination quality, while social connection and physical condition did not show significant effects. Moreover, ...
