This paper describes the methodology used to predict the behavior presented by a displacement boat when it sails in certain sea conditions. It is important that the naval engineer determines this behavior in the design phase of the boat, because this way you can evaluate the adverse performance, such as the rise of the propellant, shipping water on deck, slamming and excessive accelerations vertical. The harmful effects described above are predicted by the response spectra of the vessel for a given sea condition and for a given movement. The procedure used for obtaining Response Spectra consists of overlapping Unitary Operator Response in regular waves for a given vessel movement (RAO) and the energy spectrum of Pierson-Moskowitz, used to represent the sea in a certain condition. The operator of the boat united response was determined using a Dynamic Vessel program based on the Th...

This study determined the operational capacity of the freezing tunnel of a fishing services company. The operation of the equipment was inspected, the theoretical operational parameters were collected, and in 40 selected points, the speed (1,8 – 4,4 m/s) and temperature (–25 °C and –11 °C) of the air, and the initial and final freezing temperatures of whole gutted mahi-mahi (Coryphaena hippurus) were evaluated. The real operating capacity of the equipment (77,2 kW) was calculated by applying mathematical expressions that allowed to determine the thermal loads, and later it was compared with the design capacity (75 kW). The speed and temperature of the air inside the equipment and the temperature distribution of the product were not uniform. They depended on the location of the fans and the measurement points. These variations affected the thermal loads generated by the product an...

The parasitic copepod Neoergasilus japonicus (Harada, 1930), native to eastern Asia, was collected from Colossoma macropomum (Cuvier, 1818) cultivated in a fish pound in the department of San Martin, Peru in July 2017. The parasite specimens were found attached to the base of the dorsal fin. Neoergasilus japonicus is widespread in different fish species across the world, being in this study recorded for the first time parasitizing a fish in South America. It is probably that exotic fish hosts associated with the fish-culture industry, such us the tilapia, is the responsible for the transportation and introduction into this part of the world.

The objective of the study was to determine the frequency of hepatic lipidosis in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) of juvenile phase based on anatomical and histopathological lesions in the liver. The specimens (n=58) were obtained from a commercial fish farm in the central highlands of Peru. The fish were classified as healthy (n=23) and ill (n=35) according to the darkening of the skin and fin erosion. Liver samples were collected, fixed in 10% formalin, and stained with hematoxylin eosin. Results showed that 70.6% (41/58) of the fish had lesions compatible with hepatic lipidosis, where grade 3 had the largest incidence (27.6%). The highest frequency of hepatic lipidosis in grade 3 and 4 was observed in healthy animals.

In this paper we formulate and apply the Exergy Analysis the set heat energy consumption elements of a typical plant of fishmeal, estimating experimentally the specific heat of the solid- liquid-vapor mixtures that form the raw material and steam, in order to optimize energy consumption by changes in the original installation and thus achieving the reduction in operating costs. Usually in these plants conventional energy balance and the premise that the specific heats are physical single phase flows is used; however, when solid-fat-water-steam mixture flows are presented, as is the case, these simple energy balances in each heating element become weak and lead to a high error margin in energy system assessment. In the methodology, the specific heats of mixture flows fat-water-vapor-solid is estimated by measurement of indicators in the industrial plant, contrasted with laboratory standar...

Branchiurans are parasites from the buccal cavity, gills, skin, and fins of various fish species. The Neotropical region has one of the highest diversity of branchiurans. On Arapaima gigas, only four species of branchiurans have been reported. The present study improves the knowledge on host and geographical range of Dolops striata. Fish were collected from a fish farm in the State of Pará, Brazil. All A. gigas were parasitized by Dolops striata, which were collected from the fins and body surface. This is the first record of D. striata in A. gigas. The high prevalence detected warns the possibility of an increase in the number of D. striata infesting A. gigas, which may cause some problems for fish-farmers.

The presence of Plesiomonas shigelloides causing enteric disease in tilapia Oreochromis niloticus in a fish farm in Lima region, Peru is reported. The bacteria were isolated and identified as Plesiomonas shigelloides by conventional biochemical techniques and confirmed by the API 20NE system (numerical profile 7162744 that ratifies 99.3% P. shigelloides). Strains evaluated (n=4) had a fermentative metabolism of glucose, test positive to cytochrome oxidase, indole, Voges-Proskauer and methyl red. The most frequent external signs were erythema in abdomen and pectoral fins, and prominent and reddened anus with bloody discharge. Internally, ascites in visceral cavity and gut inflammation were detected. Histopathology studies revealed edema of the lamina propia and epithelial necrosis of gastric and intestinal tissue, and necrosis in anterior kidney and gonad.

Essential oils are products from aromatic plants, which, due to their biological, allelopathic, antioxidant and antimicrobial effects, are important for food preservation. Kajikia audax is a fish of great commercial importance, however, it is highly perishable, requiring strategies to extend its shelf life. In vitro antimicrobial activity of Bursera graveolens essential oil was determined against microorganisms isolated from K. audax. Essential oil was extracted by steam distillation, obtaining a yield of 1.25%, a density of 0.83 g/ml and a refractive index of 1.473°, in addition, it was determined by GC-MS that D-limonene (77.6%) is the majority compound. Antimicrobial tests showed that the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) for Aeromonas salmonicida and Pichia kudriavzevii was 1.62 mg/ml and 6.48 mg/ml respectively, and the minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) was 25.92 mg/ml ...
