This article deals with the conditions in France of the introduction of the second part of the Comentarios Reales in the early 1650s. Translated by a Parisian man of letters, whose labor needs were partly subjected to the demands of a wordly public, the first French version shifted the work of the Inca Garcilaso to another historiographical regime, based on a process of social and cultural conversion of the original text. This process illustrates one of the possible ways of reappropriation by other European spaces of works produced within the Hispanic imperial framework related to their American territories

This article examines the Andalusian stage in the life of the author of the Comentarios Reales, as the original context of its creation. This literary context involves both its discursive nature (description of a culturally sufficient scenario, in dialogue with the reader) and its nationalist legitimation (the claim of an identity within the Christian Commonwealth). Such legitimation receives its characteristic mark of Renaissance logic (so common to the European nationalist process, from the fourteenth to the nineteenth century), but, more specifically, as a particular process of legitimizing stigmatized societies. In that sense, Andalucía, full of conversos incorporated into the Christian world (in Jewish and morisco minorities who claimed the right of Christian affiliation, recognized above all in the Society of Jesus until 1593) offered an ideal model for revindicating the despised,...

This article presents an analysis of the work of two founders of Peruvian historiography: Inca Garcilaso de la Vega and Pedro Peralta Barnuevo. The historical work of Garcilaso and Peralta shows competition that characterizes Peruvian historiography from its very beginnings since their visions opposse and exclude each other. Indeed, while early in the seventeenth century Garcilaso created a version that emphasizes Incan and Encomendero role in Peruvian history with Cuzco as the center of the Andean civilization, a century later Peralta presents his own version stressing Lima as the historical heart of Peru in a history where Creoles are the protagonists of the forging of the Peruvian nationality. A counterpoint between these two ways of historical interpretation allows us to better evaluate the origins of such contradictory images in force in Peruvian historiography for centuries to come...

In this article we want to understand the minds of these two Peruvian writers, who are similar and different at the same time. The theme, is without a doubt, what connects them, but this is perhaps the only coincidence. However, there is a chasm separating them because their approaches to the theme is radically different in both authors. Inca Garcilaso is an ethnic and cultural mestizo (offspring of Spaniard and Indian) whose writing comes from the Christian culture of his father in which he is surrounded. His writing and his mentality are none other than a Spanish nobleman of the Spanish Golden Age. Another difference is in the work of Guaman Poma we found the vision of a pure, ladino (Spanish-speaking Indian) and Christianized Indian who expresses himself in a strange Spanish language, embedded in the Quechua culture and language. Guaman Poma is a man of the Mythical Age and lives imme...

This article presents the initial findings of a toponymy study based on the chronicles of Inca Garcilaso de la Vega concerning the Inca neighborhoods of the city of Cusco. Garcilaso recorded twenty names of Inca neighborhoods that, according to the chronicler, were still in use during his residence in Cusco between 1539 and 1560. The documentation of these names has enabled us to conduct a thorough search in the historical archives of Cusco, Lima and Seville. Based on these results, we can assert that these names did indeed exist and remained in use among the residents of Cusco throughout the entire Viceroyalty period.

This project aims to evaluate the different positions adopted by indigenous elite in order to explain and justify the political, economic and cultural changes that came up after the Spanish conquest of the Tawantinsuyo. The realization of this project was based on the hermeneutic methodology with the purpose of interpreting the Andean historical and social context from the most representative authors’ books and works. In this regard, the accusations of political oppression and cultural alienation suffered by indigenous people, systematized by Guamán Poma de Ayala, and the integration proposal of the Andean and Spanish civilization through cultural miscegenation developed by Inca Garcilaso de la Vega are highlighted.

The present study aims to analyze and establish communicative lines of convergence and opposition between the life and work of Inca Garcilaso de la Vega and Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, in the craft of writing as testimonial discourse. Although these two writers may appear to have different positions or interests, the value they both attach to language as to the Hispanic American culture of classical knowledge and art cannot be dismissed. Likewise, both writers belong to an important historical period, within which and from each of their geographical spaces they seek to leave in writing the ideal of a century (XVI-XVII), that is, the ideological project of their time, channeled through their own beliefs and ideas.

The present work presents the last will of Gómez Suárez de Figueroa, Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, first Peruvian humanist, through the testaments and codicils written in 1616, the last year of his life, and which were found by record keeper Ricardo Gómez y Sánchez in the protocols files of the Cathedral of Córdoba, along with the inventory of assets and a memorial, being published more than a Century ago, in 1908, by Manuel González de la Rosa, but which lack a study from a juridical point of view.Along its analysis attention is drawn to its formal similarity to testamentary models registered starting in the first half of the 17th Century, as well as to its peculiarities in terms of content, to then close with its transcription.
