The objective of this research was to know if there were differences in the psychological processes of reading regarding the socio-economic level and gender of 965 students from 1st to 6 th grade of primary from private and public schools of Callao. For this purpose we adapted and created scales for the battery for Reading processes evaluation - revised (PROLEC-R) by. Cuetos, et al (2007). A comparative descriptive design was used. Significant differences according the socioeconomic level in all grades were found in reading comprehension and oral comprehension. It was also found differences in identification of letters and understanding of sentences (except in 6 th) and punctuation (except in second grade). There are no differ rences in the task of identifying “same–different” words and reading of words (except for 1st grade) and pseudowords (except in 1st and 3 rd) reading and gra...

The study sought to determine if differences exist psycholinguistic and communication among university students, given their different linguistic and sociocultural reality. 20 students of Greater National University of San Marcos (Castilian dialect of coastal riverine), 18 students of the National University San Agustin de Arequipa (Castilian southern Andes) and 28 students of the National University of Huancavelica (Quechua Castilian interlectal condition) was examined ). The brief bilingual Test (González 2006) and experimental psycholinguistic tests was used: auditory perception, lexical processes, semantic and pragmatic processes, both in understanding and oral production. The results showed differences in most dimensions of oral language: comprehension (speech perception, word recognition, syntactic and semantic domain) and production (object recognition, semantic fluency, syntacti...

Simulation tools can be helpful for supporting implementation of livestock production systems and exploring ways of improvements. The aim of this paper is to present a support tool for implementation and evaluation of silvopastoral systems in the Peruvian Amazon Region. This approach is based on the design of a decision support model called Agrosilvopastoril v 19.1. It calculates livestock production using integrated information on climate, soil, crops, forestry, pastures and cattle herds collected from secondary sources and on-field work conducted at the Peruvian Northern Amazon Region. The model was tested to estimate carbon sequestration and enteric methane emissions in 10 has of silvopastures with different proportions of forest and pasture, showing an increase in carbon sequestration with a small reduction in the number of animals and similar methane emissions.

Background Human and animal fascioliasis is emerging in many world regions, among which Andean countries constitute the largest regional hot spot and Peru the country presenting more human endemic areas. A survey was undertaken on the lymnaeid snails inhabiting the hyperendemic area of Cajamarca, where human prevalences are the highest known among the areas presenting a "valley transmission pattern", to establish which species are present, genetically characterise their populations by comparison with other human endemic areas, and discuss which ones have transmission capacity and their potential implications with human and animal infection. Methods Therefore, ribosomal DNA ITS-2 and ITS-1, and mitochondrial DNA 16S and cox 1 were sequenced by the dideoxy chain-termination method. Results Results indicate the presence of three, morphologically similar, small lymnaeid species belonging to ...

The life cycle of clouds consists of mainly into three phases, namely developing, mature, and dissipating phases. The information about the vertical structure of the precipitation during different phases of development will improve their representation in the cloud models. Whether specific regimes over Peru favor the formation or decay of the cloud systems and how their intensity varies during different phases of development will provide the insight into the precipitation structure over Peru. We used two satellite-based data, namely from Global Precipitation Measurement dual Precipitation Radar (GPM-DPR) and GOES (Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite) to expose the vertical structure of precipitation during different phases of the precipitating cloud systems (PCSs). A PCS is defined using the GPM based near surface rainfall data and then GOES-based brightness temperature (BT...

A coprological survey including 476 2–18 year old school children from six rural localities between 2627 and 3061 m altitude was performed in Cajamarca province, Peru. Prevalences of fascioliasis ranging from 6.7 to 47.7% (mean 24.4%) proved to be the highest so far recorded in that human hyperendemic area. Higher prevalences in females and in the 2–5 year old group were not significant. Intensities ranged from 24 to 864 eggs per gram (arithmetic mean: 113; geometric mean: 68), the majority shedding less than 100, and without significant differences according to gender or age group. Fasciola hepatica was the most common helminth within a spectrum of 11–12 protozoan and 9–11 helminth species, 97.3% of the children showing infection with at least one parasite. The highest levels corresponded to coinfection with seven different species in females and subjects older than 5 years. Fas...

Information on the vertical structure of rain, especially near the surface is important for accurate quantitative precipitation estimation from weather and space-borne radars. In the present study, the rainfall characteristics, from a vertically pointed profile Radar in the Mantaro basin (Huancayo, Peru) are observed. In summary, diurnal variation of near-surface rainfall and bright band height, average vertical profiles of the drop size distribution (DSD), rain rate, radar reflectivity (Ze) and liquid water content (LWC) are investigated to derive the rainfall characteristics. Diurnal variation of rain rate and bright band height show the bimodal distribution, where frequent and higher rain rate occurred during the afternoon and nighttime, and more than 70% bright band height found between 4.3-4.7 km. The average vertical profiles of Ze show the opposite characteristics above and below ...
