Objective: a) to assess the seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 at the end of the second wave; b) to determine the distribution by age group and health determinants associated with seropositivity. Material and Methodology: A study performed in a Tumbes' settlement between December 2021–January 2022 sampled individuals over 2 years old from one to every four households. We collected finger-prick blood samples and conducted symptom surveys. Results: The adjusted seroprevalence after the second wave increased by twofold (50.15%, 95% CI[45.92–54.40]), compared with the first wave (24.82 %, 95%CI [22.49–27.25]). Females maintained a higher seroprevalence (53.89; 95% CI[48.48-59.23]) vs. 45.49; 95% CI [38.98-52.12], p=0.042) compared to males. Those under 18 years of age had the highest IgG seropositivity: the 12–17 age group during the second wave (85.14%) and the 2–11 age group (25.25%) d...

Biomass consumption causes COPD, but it is unknown if it is linked to Post-Acute COVID-19 Syndrome (PACS). Objective: To examine the association between biomass use and this syndrome in recovered patients from two hospitals in northern Peru. Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional, exploratory study was carried out. A questionnaire collected sociodemographic data, respiratory symptoms, and biomass use. Results: The final sample consisted of 110 participants. PACS was more common in those aged 35-65 (87.8%) and in Piura (89.1%), occurring in 88.1% of 2021 cases; the median time from symptom onset to interview was 82 (IQR = 79-119) weeks; 97/110 (86.3%) developed PACS; of these, 31% had used biomass before COVID-19 (p = 0.332). Among patients with PACS, the prevalence of dyspnea, fatigue, and cough was 68.4%, 67.3%, and 45.3%, respectively. After COVID-19, 61.05% used salbutamol and 14.7% ...

Peru had the second-highest number of COVID-19 cases in Latin America. After the first wave, Peru registered more than 900,000 cases of COVID-19 and more than 36,000 confirmed deaths from the disease. Tumbes, a border area with poor sanitation and not enough water, had the fifth highest death rate. The cross-sectional analytic study aimed: a) to assess seroprevalence of COVID-19 after the first wave; b) to assess sociodemographic determinants and symptoms associated with a positive COVID-19 antibody lateral flow test.

During the first wave, COVID-19 had devastating effects on developing countries like Peru, which reported more than 900,000 cases of the disease and more than 36,000 confirmed deaths from it. The informal settlements are counted in COVID-19 regional statistics, but they are very different from the rest of the region in terms of sanitation, access to water and sewage, housing conditions, and others. To make good decisions about public health, it is important to understand how the disease is spread in informal settlements. We did an observational, cross-sectional study in Puerto Pizarro, a remote port village in Tumbes, from November 11, 2020, to November 30, 2020, to assess the seroprevalence of COVID-19 after the first wave, as well as the sociodemographic factors and symptoms linked to a positive COVID-19 antibody lateral flow test. 1391 people older than 2 years old were given census a...
