The aim of this study was to evaluate the productive performance of laying quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica). The study was carried out at the poultry farm of the La Molina National Agrarian University in Lima, Peru. In total, 1296 quail distributed in 96 females and 48 males of three ages (45, 52 and 59 days) with 130, 140 and 150 g of body weight, respectively, at the beginning of the laying were used. A random block design with a 32 factorial arrangement was used, taking as factors age and weight at the beginning of laying and as a block the weeks of laying (8, 11 and 17). The highest egg mass (10.72 ± 0.41 g/day/bird) was obtained when the quails started laying with 150 g of live weight.

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of two ages of the long-spine acacia tree (Acacia macracantha) on the physical and chemical characteristics of the soil in a silvopastoral system with Guinea grass (Panicum maximum Jacq). The study was conducted in the Bellavista district, Cajamarca, Peru. The mechanical resistance, apparent density, humidity and temperature of the soil, as well as the content of organic matter, phosphorus (P2O5) and potassium (K2O) were evaluated in three soil locations: under the canopy of young (BCAj) and medium trees (BCAm) and outside the tree canopy (FCA), in two seasons of the year (dry and rainy). A complete randomized design with factorial arrangement 3 (location) x 2 (seasons) was used. Under the canopy of the medium trees, a lower soil temperature (27.96 °C) and higher soil humidity (15.23%) were found, in addition to improving soil fertility....

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of the age of the quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica) on the morphometry of the egg and the size of the bird at birth. In total, 227 fertile quail eggs of three ages (15, 19 and 34 weeks) were used. Egg weight (g), shape index (%), hatching weight (g), body weight/egg weight ratio, and hatching length (mm) were evaluated using a completely randomized block design. There were no significant differences between ages with egg weight. Egg shape index was significantly higher in 15-week-old birds (79.50±0.34%) than in 34-week-old birds (78.0±0.36%; p<0.05). Birth weight was greater for 34-week-old birds (7.91±0.08 g) compared to 15-week-old birds (7.63±0.07 g; p<0.05). Live weight/egg weight ratio was significantly different between breeders of 15 (68.9±0.37%) and 34 weeks (70.4±0.41%), while quail length at hatch was greater in 19-...

The aim of this study was to relate morphometric measurements of the Coturnix coturnix japonica quail egg with the weight at birth in a commercial line of laying. In total, 274 birds were evaluated at one-day old, whose fertile eggs were classified into three categories according to weight: (1) 10.00-10.99, (2) 11.00-11.99, (3) 12.00-12.99 g for the variable birth weight, while the variables: transverse diameter and longitudinal diameter of the egg, and shape index were evaluated according to quartiles. In addition, the sex of the bird was evaluated. A completely randomized block model and correlations between the quantitative variables were used. A mean correlation of 0.65 was obtained between egg weight and longitudinal diameter, and low correlations between the variables longitudinal and transverse diameter (0.15). The birth weight was 7.36 ± 0.038, 7.92 ± 0.036 and 8.47 ± 0.058 g ...

The aim of this study was to generate calibration equations to predict the nutritional chemical composition of the Italian rye grass (RG) (Lolium multiflorum Lam) by near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS). A total of 75 samples of RG of different harvesting weeks were collected from the IVITA Research Center in Huancayo (Peru). Spectrum capture was performed using NIRS and the chemical analysis was done for reference of the following components: crude protein (CP), ether extract (EE), total ash (CZ), crude fibre (CF) and neutral detergent fibre (NDF). A calibration and validation model by partial least squares (PLS) was developed and the correlation coefficient (R), coefficient of determination (R2), root mean square error of calibration (RMSEC), root mean square error of prediction (RMSEP), ratio range with error (RER) and residual predictive deviation (RPD) were used as statistics of accura...
