The COVID-19 pandemic has caused several alterations in the rhythm of life of the world population: confinement, changes in family dynamics, restrictions, closure of schools, parks, recreation centers, suspension of sports and workshops; changes that led to a significant reduction in physical activity of children, which is considered a key component for optimal physical and healthy development of the body. This situation increases the sedentary lifestyle and, thus, the risk of developing metabolic and systemic problems due to the lack of movement.

Currently, cases of severe infection in the newborn are occasional. Omphalitis is an infection of the umbilicus and surrounding tissues; it traditionally presents with erythema, induration, foul odor and hypersensitivity of the periumbilicalskin associated or not with purulent exudate. We report the case of a 20-dayold newborn who presented to the emergency department with neonatal sepsis, fnger abscess, periorbital cellulitis and umbilical hernia. We describe the onset of the clinical picture, evolution and treatment. Thus, the quality of life of neonatesdepends, to a large extent, on the health care provided to them. Although omphalitis has a favorable progression, cases complicated with necrotizing fasciitis, myonecrosis or systemic disease can lead to high morbidity and mortality
