Although the relationship between paracoccidioidomycosis (PCM) and solid tumors has been described more than 80 years ago, reports of PCM and gastric cancer are rare. PCM can present before or concomitantly with the diagnosis of cancer, and its clinical presentation may rise the suspicion of malignancies or be part of reactivation by immunosuppression. We present the case of a 52-year-old Peruvian man with a signet-ring cell (SRC) gastric adenocarcinoma who after 6 chemotherapy sessions with FLOT (docetaxel, oxaliplatin, leucovorin, 5-fluorouracil) presented rapidly growing lung nodules. The lung biopsy showed yeasts compatible with Paracoccidioides sp., so he received initial treatment with itraconazole and after gastrectomy maintenance therapy with trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole accompanied by tomographic resolution of lesions.

La rabdamióisis es una entidad clínica y bioquímica caracterizada por necrosis muscular y liberación del contenido intracelular al torrente circulatorio. Sus causas son múltiples y su presentación clínica muy variable, por lo que los síntomas clásicos de dolor muscular, debilidad y orinas oscuras no siempre están presentes. El diagnóstico se establece con niveles de creatina-fosfocinasa cinco veces por encima de valor normal y ha de instaurarse un tratamiento precoz para evitar complicaciones graves. Se presenta el caso de un varón joven que refería dolor y debilidad muscular tras practicar ejercicios físicos días antes y se revisa la literatura.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is an additional slow-evolving pandemic that precedes the COVID-19 pandemic and will continue when it ends. However, in countries such as Peru where there is high consumption and inadequate prescription of antibiotics, a more challenging future scenario can be expected. Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs (ASP) are multidisciplinary teams of professionals that aim to contain the emergence of multidrug-resistant organisms through strategies such as audit of antibiotic prescription or creating antibiotic treatment guidelines based on local AMR rates. The difficulty in the timely diagnosis of co-infections or superinfections in the clinical course of COVID-19 leads to inappropriate use of antibiotics, forcing ASP to adapt their strategies in this changing scenario. Post-weaning diarrhea (PWD) is an often disease affecting piglets. It is caused mainly by enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) colonization in pig gut. Antibiotics has been used to prevent, combat and control PWD and its negative impact on the productivity of pig breeding sector. Nonetheless, antibiotics due to their wide antibacterial spectrum also can reach beneficial gut bacteria, such as Lactobacillus. Lately, essential oils (EOs) have emerged as a potential alternative to using antibiotics in animal breeding because of their effect on bacterial growth. We report the first case of Myroides phaeus isolated from blood, causing bacteremia in an immunocompromised patient using the automated MicroScan Walk Away 96 system, followed by bacterial identification by amplification-sequencing of the 16S rDNA. The sequences obtained were compared with the reference sequence of the BLAST ® platform - National Library of Medicine, USA, and the isolation was identified as Myroides phaeus strain with 99.67 % identity in Blast report. In the literature we did not find previous reported cases of infections by this bacterium, however its pathogenic role is still controversial; therefore, this isolation alerts us to carry out an exhaustive surveillance of other possible acquisition routes.

Introducción: En crisis sanitarias mundiales los medios de comunicación son importantes para informar sobre los temas relevantes a la población. Objetivo: Caracterizar y encontrar asociaciones de la percepción de miedo o exageración que transmiten los medios de comunicación en la pandemia del COVID–19 en ciudades del Perú. Métodos: Estudio transversal analítico y multicéntrico. Se realizó una encuesta virtual a 4009 personas, en 17 ciudades del Perú, del 15-20 de marzo del 2020.
