The purpose of this work was to analyze the working memory like a cognitive model envolved in lexical tasks and individual differentiation on capacity of Reading. The subjects were 163 students of public and particular schools. In this study we elaborated a new “reading span test” agreement with suggestions from Daneman and Carpenter (1980), adapted to children students. That instrument was correlated with the subtest of Number from WISC, inverted form. The validity assessment between both tests was made with Spearman’s coefficient of correlation. The consequence of that assessment showed rRHO = 0,47; it should prove both tests contain the function of processing (or computation) proper of the working memorysystem. Then, that “reading span test” is an adequate instrument to measure individual differences about capacity of reading only in similar subjects like those we studied.

At present we observe a vigorous developmental of the cognitive science like a multidisciplinary field that involve several disciplines, such as cognitive psychology, artificial intelligence, linguistics, philosophy, neuroscience, and cognitive anthropology, in order to study the cognition. The study of cognition and mind has been made from a point of view of the speculative philosophy, or from perspective of the philosophy of mind, or from a point of view scientific. The hypothetical and/or theoretical proposals offered from those studies, are discussed and are submitted to experimental analysis, for the purpose to test their scientific validity. Thus, the cognitive science set the essential properties of mind and cognition, such as the representational nature of mind, the causal relation between the cognitive representation and the behavior, the symbolic nature of information mentally ...

The present work intends to show that Edith Stein’s phenomenological position, in On the problem of empathy and in Introduction to philosophy, can characterize her philosophy as carrier of the germ of a ”theological turn”, from the early phenomenological era. We consider three key points to signal this turn. These are the ideas of i) original consciousness and passivity, ii) the limit of human knowledge, and iii) empathy towards God. In the treatment of these ideas, we can appreciate how Edith Stein’s phenomenology makes its way towards a certain transcendence, hence the encounter with theology is natural, or that there are theological developments of phenomenology.

Objective: To evaluate the dose-response analgesic effect of metformin in an acute pain event in rodents. Materials and methods: Eighty (80) mice were used. The analgesic effect was evaluated using the abdominal writhing test in mice. Eight (8) groups of 10 mice each were formed: one diclofenac 8 mg/kg group, one tramadol group, one target group, and five experimental groups of metformin at doses of 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 mg/kg. For the statistical analysis, the D'Agostino-Pearson test, one-tailed ANOVA test, Tukey's test, and Pearson's correlation coefficient were used. Results: The D'Agostino-Pearson normality test revealed a p-value < 0.05 in all groups. The ANOVA test showed a p-value < 0.0001. The Tukey's range test obtained a p-value < 0.05 between the target group and metformin groups at all doses, and between the diclofenac group and metformin groups at doses of 100, ...

Background: Candidemia is an invasive mycosis with an increasing global incidence and high mortality rates in cancer patients. The production of biofilms by some strains of Candida constitutes a mechanism that limits the action of antifungal agents; however, there is limited and conflicting evidence about its role in the risk of death. This study aimed to determine whether biofilm formation is associated with mortality in cancer patients with candidemia. Methods: This retrospective cohort study included patients treated at Peru’s oncologic reference center between June 2015 and October 2017. Data were collected by monitoring patients for 30 days from the diagnosis of candidemia until the date of death or hospital discharge. Statistical analyses evaluated the association between biofilm production determined by XTT reduction and mortality, adjusting for demographic, clinical, and microb...

Percentage of Drug abuse in Peruvian population is being determined only with inquiries and no toxiccological analysis is done. For the present study, 55 National High Schools from Lima, Perú, were selected considering those with high student population. The students age fluctuated between 15 and 19 years old, and 13 301 samples were analysed. The analysis results indicated that 15.9% of students had consumed cocaine; 9.9% marijuana; 0.7% benzodiazepine; 0.3% barbiturates and no one had consumed amphetamines. At the same time of sample collection, an inquiry, was performed results but the did not agree with the ones obtained from toxicological analysis. So, we concluded, that inquiries do not demonstrate the real percentage of drug abuse, since they are not answered with responsability by fue students, may be because of fear or shame to their drug-dependence situation.

Introduction: The selection of a medical specialty has been associated with multiple factors, such as personal preferences, academic exposure, motivational factors and sociodemographic factors, such as gender. The number of women in the medical field has increased in recent years. In Latin America, we have not found any studies that explore this relationship. Objective: To determine whether there is an association between gender and the intention to choose a medical specialty in medical students from 11 countries in Latin America. Methods: Secondary analysis of the Collaborative Working Group for the Research of Human Resources for Health (Red-LIRHUS) data; a multi-country project of students in their first year and fifth year of study, from 63 medical schools in 11 Latin American countries. All students who referred intention to choose a certain medical specialty were considered as part...
