Nitrogen fertilizers are commonly used to improve agricultural productivity. However, its excessive use may cause or lead to environmental problems. Therefore, technologies capable of monitoring and measure levels of nitrogen in agricultural soil in-situ and in real time are required in order to make efficient the use of fertilizers. Nitrogen levels are usually measured by direct and indirect methods. Direct methods can be conducted in-situ or in laboratory, but they are really expensive and/or little resistant to soil conditions.

Objective: To determine the effectiveness of autologous serum rich in growth factors to repair ocular surface lesions which have uncertain progression with conventional treatment. Materials and methods: AForty-six (46) eyes with ocular surface disorders such as exposure keratopathy, keratopathy caused by dry eye syndrome, neurotrophic keratopathy and blunt eye injury were treated. The affected areas were the conjunctiva, cornea (epithelium, stroma) and sclera. Anatomical and functional evaluations were performed betweenMarch and December 2020 using Schirmer’s test, fluorescein eye stain and optical coherence tomography (OCT). Results: The symptoms improved in the following order: eye pain, foreign body sensation, blepharospasm, hyperemia and epiphora. Additionally, the lesions progressed favorably as follows: first, those of the conjunctiva and corneal epithelium; then, those of the co...

Vacancy ordered maghemite (γ-Fe2O3) nanoparticles functionalized with nanohydroxyapatite (HAp – Ca10(PO4) 6(OH)2) have been successfully synthesized using an inexpensive co-precipitation chemical route. Evidence for the presence of vacancy order in maghemite was shown by the superstructure lines observed in X-ray diffraction. The adsorption of carboxyl groups of citric acid (C6H8O7) onto γ-Fe2O3 nanoparticles was investigated by FTIR, XPS and Mössbauer spectroscopy. From XPS surface analysis, two binding energies related to oxygen were attributed to bindings between C6H8O7/γ- Fe2O3 and C6H8O7/HAp from an interfacial reaction promoted by strongly adsorbed H2O molecules at the surface of these nanomaterials.

Objective: determine the perception of the causes and possible consequences of events dangerous to the health of Peruvian workers. Material and Methods: multicenter analytical cross-sectional study, in fourteen Peruvian cities, inquired about the perception of the causes and possible consequences that had caused the dangerous health events. We searched for associations between the variables. Results: 1772 workers had a work incident, due to the distraction of the worker (66%) and the one that was not signaling the danger (44%); the most serious repercussions would have occurred in the worker (74%) and his family (66%), but it meant a great economic loss for the company. Conclusions: it was found that the perceptions of the consequences of a work incident could affect workers, family and company, these results should be considered to improve working conditions and the information that emp...

The Albizia lophantha extract (T1: 0 mg of extract/ml of nutritive cultivation [mg/ml], T2: 0.04 mg/ml, T3: 0.08 mg/ml, T4: 0.12 mg/ml) was used to evaluate the in vitro anthelmintic effect on gastrointestinal nematodes of horses. Higher inhibition in the hatching of eggs (T4: 43% and T3: 11%, respectively) and lower in the survival of larvae in the treatments of high doses (T4: 0% and T3: 0% at 36 and 60 hours after applying the extract respectively) (p=0.0001). The A. lophantha extract was effective in the in vitro control of gastrointestinal nematodes of horses.

Introduction. There is a knowledge gap concerning patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) who are not eligible for intensive induction chemothera-py; this, together with a recent increase in the incidence in Latin America, encloses a need. Through real-world evidence, we describe and compare the results of the different treatment strategies within this context. Methodology. This is a longitu-dinal, descriptive, retrospective study of a cohort of Latin American patients with AML not eligible for intensive induction chemotherapy, treated with low-intensity chemotherapy or with the best supportive care alone between January 1, 2015, to December 31, 2018. Results. Of a total of 125 patients (median age 74.8 years), the majority received low-intensity chemotherapy (78.4%). The median time in months of overall survival (9.2), progression-free survival (4.8), and time to treatment failure (3...

Purpose: The COVID-19 pandemic is a colossal challenge for global health; nonetheless, specific subgroups face considerably higher risks for infection and mortality. Among patients with malignant diseases, those with hematologic neoplasms are at a higher risk for poor outcomes. The objective of this study was to register treatment modifications associated with the COVID-19 pandemic and their short-term consequences in Latin America. Methods: Multicenter, prospective, observational, cohort study including patients older than 14 years from 14 centers in four countries (Mexico, Peru, Guatemala, and Panama) who had a confirmed diagnosis of acute leukemia, and who were undergoing active treatment since the first COVID-19 case in each country until the cutoff on July 15, 2020.Results: We recruited 635 patients. Treatment modifications because of the COVID-19 pandemic were reported in 40.8% of c...
