Objetivo: el presente artículo muestra un estudio en el que se analiza el espacio de trabajo matemático personal de estudiantes de carreras de humanidades cuando movilizan el concepto de función cuadrática al resolver una tarea de modelización. La parte experimental se llevó a cabo con estudiantes de humanidades de primer ciclo en un primer curso de matemáticas. Métodos: para el estudio fueron considerados elementos de la teoría del Espacio de Trabajo Matemático (ETM), el ciclo de modelización de Blum y Borromeo y aspectos de Ingeniería Didáctica. Research in Didactics of Mathematics shows how important it is to know and understand the student's mathematical task -whether with or without the use of technological resources-either from a cognitivist or epistemological point of view. In this sense, this report uses the Mathematical WorkSpace (MWS) as a theoretical tool to analyze the mathematical production of Chilean high school students (16-17 years old). For this purpose, a learning situation is presented with tasks related to the rate of variationin which GeoGebra is used. From the analysis of the students' productions, it is shown that this theory provides tools to characterize the mathematical production of students. The research report, which is a summary of the first author's master's thesis, aims to analyze the mathematical work of students in humanities majors when they solve a task on the topic of exponential function. For this purpose,we are based on the theory of the Mathematical Workspace (MWS) and we use the MWS method for the analysis. The research was carried out with students of the first cycle of humanities careers (16 and 18 years old) of a private university in Lima-Peru, in which a task of the exponential function topic was elaborated. Based on the analysis of the mathematical actions, the activation of the semiotic, instrumental and discursive genesis is evidenced, being the semiotic and discursive genesis the most frequent.
