Ponencia presentada en el Seminario Internacional de Modelamiento Hidrológico para la Gestión de Recursos Hídricos, realizado en Lima, el 17 de septiembre de 2020. Los sistemas dinámicos complejos con numerosas variables de influencia diferentes requieren modelos correspondientes que permitan calcular o estimar las relaciones del sistema complejo. Sin embargo, esto generalmente sólo es posible con modelos matemáticos o numéricos como los utilizados en las simulaciones de aguas subterráneas. Simplificados en tales modelos, los procesos, por ejemplo, el flujo de aguas subterráneas, se calculan en una zona determinada, teniendo en cuenta las condiciones límite (entradas por los bordes, retiradas de agua subterráneas, etc.).

Karst aquifers provide drinking water for 10% of the world’s population, support agriculture, groundwater-dependent activities, and ecosystems. These aquifers are characterised by complex groundwater-flow systems, hence, they are extremely vulnerable and protecting them requires an in-depth understanding of the systems. Poor data accessibility has limited advances in karst research and realistic representation of karst processes in large-scale hydrological studies. In this study, we present World Karst Spring hydrograph (WoKaS) database, a community-wide effort to improve data accessibility. WoKaS is the first global karst springs discharge database with over 400 spring observations collected from articles, hydrological databases and researchers.
