The aim of this work was to determine the morphology and growth kinetics of an isolate of primary cells from passages 1-3 of the alpaca placental chorion (aPChC) as stem cell precursors. Five alpaca placentas were processed by mechanical enzymatic disintegration for primary isolation of nucleated cells, evaluating the shape, length, width, and kinetics of these cells, as well as the population of cells obtained per gram of placental chorion tissue. The results in cell isolation yielded 6x105 nucleated cells/g of chorion tissue. The morphometry evaluated from passage 0 to 3 showed longitudinal elongation ranging from 110.99 ± 27.16 μm to 298.24 ± 52.06 μm, respectively, while the measure of the cell width ranges from 30.97 ± 8.53 μm to 48.17 ± 11.27 μm. The growth kinetics expressed as cumulative population doubling level per passage number were 2.07, 1.65, 1.06 and 0.30. The morp...

Stem cell therapy in dogs has increased considerably in recent years; however, there are few publications on the treatment of perianal fistulas (PF) in this species. The aim of this open-label clinical trial was to demonstrate the efficacy and safety of a new protocol for the in situ administration of low-dose adipose-derived allogeneic stem cells (ASCs) for the treatment of refractory spontaneous perianal fistula. The methodology consisted of applying one to three doses of 5 × 106 cryopreserved allogeneic ASCs to each fistula. The study was performed in 14 dogs regardless of sex, breed, or age, with a clinical diagnosis of refractory PF. Cells diluted in phosphate-buffered saline were applied to five sites of the PF in an amount of 1 × 106 per application site. Efficacy was determined by the complete closure of the fistula, which was observed in 100% of the cases studied one month aft...

Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) evaluates cellular components of cancer cells in plasma. Breast cancer (BC) is the most frequent one. Studying ctDNA is a non-invasive method to assess BC. Patients with BC have higher levels of ctDNA than those without. High ctDNA levels are more frequent in patients with metastatic disease with high tumor burden and with more aggressive disease, such as those with triple-negative phenotype and HER2+. ctDNA allows the selection of target treatment for metastatic disease. Elimination of ctDNA during neoadjuvant chemotherapy in early BC is associated with higher complete response rates and longer survival and also predicts relapses well in advance.
