The rhizome of Cucuma longa L. is a plant species used for flavoring and medicinal purposes, therefore, it is important to carry out toxicity studies to determine its safety margins. Objective: to evaluate the acute and chronic toxicity of the powdered rhizome of Curcuma longa L. and curcumin in albino mice and rats. Methodology: it is an experimental investigation. For the acute toxicity test, 36 albino mice of 2 months of age were used, weighing 20 to 25 grams, randomly divided into nine groups of 4 animals, and for chronic toxicity, 30 male albino rats of 10 to 25 grams were used. 12 weeks of age, with an average weight of 200 to 250 grams divided into five groups of 6 animals. The products analyzed were the powdered rhizome of Curcuma longa and curcumin at 95% (p/p) purity. For the acute toxicity test, four groups were formed, at doses of 0.5; 1.0; 1.5; and 2.0 g/kg in solution respe...

Worldwide, prostate cancer is the second most diagnosed type of cancer in the male population, as well as the fifth leading cause of death. Therefore, it is necessary to look for alternatives for its prevention and treatment. Objective: to determine the effect of the pulverized rhizome of Curcuma longa on T lymphocytes in an animal model of prostate cancer. Methodology: It is an experimental study, 30 male rats Holtzman from 10 to 12 weeks of age were used, with an average weight of 200 to 250 g. Prostate cancer induction was performed by administration of testosterone, progesterone, and N-nitroso-N-methylurea (NMU) at doses of 100 mg/kg, 50 mg/kg, and 50 mg/kg, respectively. The pulverized rhizome of Curcuma longa was administered in aqueous solution at doses of 200, 400 and 600 mg/kg. Determination of CD4+ and CD8+ T cells was analyzed by BD FACSCalibur flow cytometry using FlowJo soft...

Objective: To determine the characteristics of the use of tocilizumab (TCZ) in patients hospitalized for SARS-CoV-2, at the Dos de Mayo National Hospital in the months of April to September 2020. Methodology: Descriptive study of transverse cut. The sample consisted of 141 patients infected with SARS-CoV-2, from whom complete information on registered medical prescriptions and medical records was collected. Results: Age was 58.9 ± 11.2 years, 78% were male, weight was 79.6 ± 12.0 Kg, showing that 41.8% and 44.2% were overweight and obese, respectively. In addition, 99.3% of patients showed respiratory rate greater than 22 breaths/minute, 97.2% had blood pressure of less than 100 mmHg and 99.3% had oxygen saturation (SpO2) less than 85% and the common inflammatory markers were PCR>100 mg/dL (75.2%), Ferritin>700 ng/mL (59.6%), D-Dimer> 1000 µg/mL (77.3%), DHL>350 U/L (58.9%...

Objective: To evaluate the consumption of human albumin 20% in the hospitalization services of the Hospital Militar Central during the period June - December 2019. Materials and methods: Observational, descriptive, cross-sectional and retrospective research, whose sample consisted of 1139 records provided by the computer service of hospitalized patients. Results: The average age of the patients was 78.2 years, 57.8% were 80 years old or older, 63.2% were male and 55.3% had holder status. The drug was prescribed mainly in hypoalbuminemia (27.37%) and nephrotic syndrome (23.16%). The service with greater patient care was internal medicine (50%), but those of higher prescriptions of human albumin 20% were gastroenterology (1539 bottles) and internal medicine (1276 bottles), with an average of 61.6 and 13.4 bottles per person, respectively, as well as those of higher total costs (S / 173,183...

The objective of this study was to carry out pharmacotherapeutic follow-up (SFT) in patients with osteoarthritis, evaluating the level of knowledge, pharmacotherapeutic adherence, identification of drug-related problem (DRP) and quality of life. It is a descriptive, observational and longitudinal study in twenty patients diagnosed with osteoarthritis. The data collection, from the patients recruited in a private pharmaceutical office, was carried out by means of instruments that consist of the formulation of surveys carried out in the patient’s home. The predominant sex was female (90%) and an age range of 56 to 60 years (40%), with comorbidities being arterial hypertension (45%), osteoporosis and diabetes mellitus, the average of the intensity measurement scale pain was reduced by 2 points (p<0.05) and quality of life improved (p<0.05). The level of knowledge about osteoarthriti...

The present study aimed to determine the effect of a food supplement based on natural inputs and bioactive components of plant species on sexual behavior. It is an experimental, prospective and longitudinal investigation. For the test, 150 albino rats were used: 75 females and 75 males of the Holtzmann breed of 12 weeks of age, with an average weight of 200 to 250 g. (males) and 150 - 200 g. (females). Two products were evaluated: One that contained the extract of the roots of seven plant species at doses of 200 and 400mg / kg and Two that contained the product one plus chestnut flour and Sacha inchi at a dose of 830mg / kg. The trial was carried out for 10 weeks and the evaluations were carried out at the eighth, ninth and tenth weeks (days 1, 7 and 14 respectively). Likewise, the evaluation of the biochemical, hematological, testosterone and prostate-specific antigen (PSA) parameters w...
