Objective: To establish the prevalence of changes in the articulation temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and its association with age, sex, and right side or left side, using panoramic radiographs. Materials and Methods: We reviewed a total of 360 (720 condyles) x-rays of both sexes and older than 18 years, grouped in three categories, 18 – 40 years, 41 – 60 years and older than 61 years. Will evaluate bone changes of the condyle of the mandible as a subchondral cyst, flattening, erosion, sclerosis and osteophyte. Results: The prevalence of bone changes of the mandibular condyles was 70,3% being more frequent in the 41-60 years, and in males, finding statistically significant differences. The number of condyles affected was 419 (58.2%). Although both condyles were found affected, for the most part, there were no differences statistically significative on hand. The most common change w...

The purpose of this study was to determine characteristics of soft-tissue profile in peruvian adults using Holdaway linear and angular measurements. It was also the purpose of this study to compare the collected data with the Caucasian norms of Holdaway. The sample consisted of 40 untreated adults (20 males and 20 females) between 18 to 30 ages. The subjects selected were in good health and had normal occlusion. Lateral cephalogram x-rays were taken with the teeth in occlusion. The findings indicated that the most of linear and angular values were significantly different from those of the Holdaway analysis. The angle “H” in the Peruvian sample was 8.45° more than that of the American. Caucasian group.

Objective: The study is to point out the cranial shape determined by the cranial index in relation with the causal agent, the cultural area of skulls origin and cranial morphological trends visually obtained. Methodology: it was used, 18 pre-columbian skulls included in the typological classification of Peter Weiss, in which we proceeded to measure the width and anteroposterior interparietal maximum length, measured from the glabella to opistocráneo; using the mathematical formula that multiplies the eu-eu by 100, divided by the length gl-op. Cranial indexes and cranial shapes are related to the causative agent, the cultural area of origin of the skulls and dolichocephalic and brachycephalic visual trends established in a previous study, seeking equivalence with cranial forms considered in the classification of Martin and Broca. Results and conclusions: 1. The pre-columbian peruvian sku...

The tumor necrosis factor (TNF) is an important mediator of the inflammatory reactions; it seems to play a central roll in the pathogenesis of several chronic inflammatory diseases including the periodontitis. It has been demonstrated that different rates exist from TNF alpha in vitro and in vivo between the individuals, so it can be associated with the presence of certain genetic polymorphism. The purpose of this investigation is to study the degree of polymorphism of the gene TNF-alpha (-308G/A) in samples of adult Peruvian patients and analyze the relationship with periodontal processes. For the study 81 blood samples with anticoagulant EDTA of people between 25 and 52 years were collected (47,5 average ± 7,4). 11 of them were people who had severe periodontal processes (average 35,2 ± 2,3). There was a greater frequency of genotype GG (G alele for the gene TNF-alpha-308) of the 82,...
