Since its foundation, The Peruvian Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology has contributed to the development and dissemination of Peruvian medicine, especially Gynecology, Obstetrics and related specialties, by organizing Congresses, Symposia, Courses and other academic activities. This has been notorious since 1995 with the appearance of The Peruvian Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics where 111 articles on human reproduction have been published up to now.

The author has taken as the basis of this manuscript the content of the introduction to the Symposium on Assisted Fertility published in the Peruvian Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics in 2012 (1). Infertility in Peru and in almost all countries is not considered an important disease to be taken into account as a public health problem (2). According to the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (3), in Peru we should be around 201 170 000 people in 2018. Within the population growth, there should be 10 292 180 that were in the range of 20 to 39 years. According to the World Health Organization, 15% of them, that is to say 1 543 827, would present problems of infertility.

Chronic pelvic pain (CPP) is that sensitive, subjective or emotional unpleasant experience, which is located at the lower abdomen, pelvis, lower back or hip that persists for more than six months and occurs continuously or intermittently, in women, not necessarily associated with the menstrual cycle (1).

Dr. Jorge Ascenzo Cabello’s biographical sketch recalls his pioneering work in the study of Peruvian couples suffering of sterility and infertility. He founded in Lima the Peruvian Fertility Institute, a center devoted to the care of couples with reproduction problems and training of young physicians. He was Founding President of the Peruvian Fertility Society, among other distinguished society positions and devoted his life to clinical care in reproduction.

Artificial insemination, already accepted worldwide, at least from the strictly scientific point of view is in specific cases, a ral help the couple with fertility problems where the root cause lies in the male factor.

Desde mediados del siglo XX, el estudio y tratamiento de a infertilidad ha ido cambiando rápidamente, desde el manejo clínico , endocrinológico básico, con tratamientos quirúrgicos reconstructivos pasando rápidamente a los tratamiento con estrógenos, citrato de clomifeno, gonadotropinas, agonistas y antagonistas del GnrH, inhibidores de la aromatasa, el uso de la laparoscopia e histeroscopia, el manejo adecuado de la imagenología, hasta llegar a julio de 1978, fecha en que Patrick Steptoe y Robert Edwards logran el nacimiento del primer bebe producto de la fertilización asistida de alta complejidad FIV.

A review of editorial occurrences since 1955 when the journal Ginecología y Obstetricia was first published until 2015 is done, mentioning its continuity and permanence with publication of articles on obstetrics and gynecology, reproduction, infertility, public health, neoplasias, and fetal medicine. The presence of the current Editorial Committee since 1994 has allowed editorial quality, permanence, peer review, visibility, impact, and citations, incentivizing research and publication, and obtaining digitalization of all articles of the Revista Peruana de Ginecología y Obstetricia in the Open Journal System since 1955.
