The aim of the study was to determine the influence of oral habits more prevalent in the dental occlusion of infants who attended the dental clinic of San Marcos University. This is a descriptive and cross-section study in patients attending the Infant Clinic of the Child, in the 2010. The sample consisted in 50 infants who recorded the first plane of occlusion. The data collection was obtained through a survey to parents and subsequently performed clinical examination for registration of malocclusion in children. They applied the chi-square test of Pearson r (SPSS 17) with a significance level of 95 % (p <0.05).Our study observed a relation between the common digital suction depth of the palate with 60 % (11 infants) (p 0.01). Also was no relation between the plane and finger sucking terminal for within the age range of 19-36 months, also there was a terminal plane (straight or dista...

Objective. To evaluate oral health indicators in children and adolescents with cerebral palsy in Lima-Peru. Methods. An observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study of a sample of 171 patients from two specialized national referral centers for the 2012-2013 period who met the inclusion criteria. For the Greene & Vermillion oral hygiene index (OHI), decayed, missing and filled teeth (DMFT) and the dental malocclusion (DM) analysis, 126 children (6.0-11.9 years-old) and 45 adolescents (12.0-19.0 years-old) were evaluated. Results. The OHI was 2.55 (poor hygiene) in the 91.8%, regular OHI in the 8.2% and no one showed a good IHO, observing the same behavior in both age groups. The prevalence of caries was 100% and the DMFT was 4.55 ± 1.56; the children registered a DMFT of 4.52 ± 1.537 and the adolescents 4.64 ± 1.626. The DM was present in 74.3%; the children showed a 69,8% ...

The purpose of this study is to determinate the influence of the sociocultural factors in the oral health of Women in Fertile Age (WFA) in Mala's rural comunnity on 2004. For this study we take a research group of 40 WFA of Mala cornmunity (from 15 to 49 years old) who were selected according to the selection criterion established for the present study. To these women we practice a structure survey according to the research variable and then we practice a dental examination to corroborate the oral health state we also take DMFT index of every one. We found a strong influence of the Number of children's factor with 9 significative differences following the factors age, instruction degree, civil state, work and violence against women all of them with same significative differences. In fact, the sociocultural factors have a great influence in the oral health state of women in fertile age of...

The aim of the study was to determine risk factors for dental caries in infants treated at the Child Clinic in 2007 (oral hygiene habits, dietary habits and how microbial transmissibility (mother - child). Prior informed consent of parents, we selected 73 infants from 6 to 36 months with carious lesions in deciduous teeth, a dental record data were collected for analysis of risk factors. The clinical examination determined the presence of white spot and cavitated lesions. It was clearly noted the influence of risk factors (oral hygiene of the infant, direct microbial transmissibility mother-child and diet), in the presence of dental caries in its two stages: white spot and cavitated lesions. It is concluded that the identified risk factors favoring the appearance of dental caries in infants, so it is necessary the first visit to the dentist before the first year of life, in this way woul...

The aim of this study was to determine the correlation between hypo-salivation and corono-radicular caries in older adult patients, which analyzed the physicochemical properties of saliva (flow, pH), the frequency and location of the corono-radicular caries. Was selected a sample of 45 persons, adult patients over 60 years and another 18 to 26 years (control group), from service centers, hospitals and universities. The technique of collection of saliva, consisted of making chewing a piece of paraffin for a period of five minutes and gradually spit in a tank, which allowed to measure the volume and pH salival. We observed the oral higiene and the corono-radicular caries of all tooth surfaces. The results, the volume of saliva in the elderly, had an average of 3.27 ml/5min very low values compared with the values of young people who have an average of 5.22 ml/5min. It was found that 98 % o...
