This study defines and characterizes etno-racial self-identification patterns of the Peruvianpopulation employing the Encuesta Nacional de Hogares (Enaho) 2012. For this purpose, we have employed a module with questions recently added to this survey, in order to approach empirically to the notion of identity, combining the dimensions of native language, self-acknowledgment and the notion of indigenous population. The results are based on a latent classes analysis employing, at the same time, the information in this questions in order to identify four possible etnoracial identities. These identities are intertwined in the self-acknowledgment process with certain ancestors and customs, and also the one based on language. With the methodology and the data collected, we haven’t found evidence that point that ethnic identities are multiple and fluent. The ethnic identit...

This paper offers some insights into the experiences of mothers in their initial bonding with their children. To this end, the author offers a discussion of Winnicott’s view of the emotional development of the baby, emphasizing the process from the first drafts of the ego to the possibility of the creative act. This discussion is enriched by the addition of the other component of the bond: the mother. It is suggested that, in normal cases, together with the emotional development of the baby and through the phenomena of empathy and crossidentification, a reinforcement of the emotional development of the mother takes place.

Confronted with the challenges of the globalized world, recent research suggests that identification with humanity has socio-affective roots and is driven by the celebration of collective rituals that promote benevolence and universalism. This paper analyzes the relation of a self-transcendent emotion (i.e., Awe) lived in local collective meetings with human identity. We conducted a across-sectional study in Mexico and the Basque Country (N = 656), and the results of structural equation modelling shows that this emotion increases the identification with humanity, well-being (directly) and prosocial behavior (indirectly). Further, the intensity of this emotion also predicted the perception of emotional synchrony while controlling for more stable and trait-alike variables. Following Durkheim, the emotional processes experienced in collective events encourage the development of shared ident...

Scholarly work that examines the production of ethnoracial categories has more closely examined the role of nation-states, social movements, and transnational trends. This focus has shifted attention away from the internal institutional processes that influence the production of ethnoracial categories. In particular, the role of the census-takers as key actors in these institutional processes has been underexamined. In this study, we draw from fifty-four semi-structured interviews with census-takers who participated in the 2017 Peruvian National Census to argue that census-takers can be considered street-level bureaucrats because of the influence they exercise in the production of ethnoracial categories. In a context where ethnoracial categories are contested, participants in our study drew from their own understandings of the ethnoracial question which ultimately –albeit inadvertently...

This document is based on a recent study on the relation between ethnicity, culture, «race» and ancestry among Afro-Peruvians. Findings show that while construction of the «black» or Afrodescendant identity in Peru holds the cultural dimension as a central component, it mainly - and fundamentally- revolves around the idea of the existence of a «black race». According to these «racialized» identity criteria, the boundaries of an Afro-descendant «we» cover only those with certain phenotypic markers that Afro-Peruvians themselves consider as defining membership in the «black race». The phenotypical «evidence» of «blackness» thus appears as a kind of «necessary condition» for the «black»/Afro- Peruvian identity. This form of self-identification poses a threat to the political discourses and projects of Afro-Peruvian organizations seeking to build a «de-racialized...

Supported by ethnographic documentation, by the anthropological literature and by data collected in the field, this article relates the process by which indigenous peoples in the northwest Amazon learn and teach children with the rich dialogue about the production of persons. The techniques and the meaning of «producing people» are transmitted in day to day life, in the interaction between generations, and in the narratives of specialists and family members (especially grandparents). At the same time, this process is intertwined with ritual and mythic knowledge transmission, which is, if not always explicit, always present in the indigenous groups of the region. Children also play active roles in this process of formation and self- formation; in this article, I lay out this social agency my means of a careful description of the day in the life of children in the multiethnic vil...

The aim of this research is to propose a reverse logistics system that enhances the unbundling process of goods meant for disposal, from the generation phase to final disposal, specifically designed for companies in the electric transmission sector in Peru, which can be replicated in power generation and distribution companies. Such improvements are expected to have a positive impact on all areas involved in the process, streamlining activities while applying current technological tools. Upon conducting a cost-benefit analysis and implementing the new process and its support tools, the expected outcome is an 87% increase in economic benefits compared to the current empirical process, supported by a self-developed technological tool, specific service agreement levels, and real-time information management. This non-experimental applied research employs both quantitative and qualitative met...

Healthy behaviors have traditionally been promoted through persuasive messages that provide information about figures or arguments and are designed with an openly persuasive objective. However, other strategies have recently been established, such as the use of narrative messages and mixed formats (which combine information and tell a story). The evidence is not conclusive about the efficacy of these three modalities of persuasion (informational, narrative, and mixed) nor about the mechanisms responsible. Methodology: Two experiments were carried out that compared the effects of the three modalities of persuasive messages mentioned and that were designed to promote sleep hygiene as a factor in controlling body weight. In addition, the role of involvement with the theme of the message and the need for cognition were considered as possible moderator variables. Results: It was observed that...

The learning process in training children with visual impairments and low vision requires the use of new devices that integrate image recognition and feedback on stimulation sequences with the senses of tactile and auditory responses into their design. Eighteen students with visual impairments (blind or low vision) between the ages of eight and twelve, who attend a school specialized in teaching children with visual impairments, completed three numerical stimulation routines. The software developed evaluates skills of addition and subtraction, identification of geometric shapes, and mental calculations to achieve a goal. The results of the test showed that the students performed better in the game dynamic than in the addition and subtraction routines. This study is a contribution to designing software for low-cost devices as it has been verified that this type of application works on bot...

Introduction For the diagnosis of joint hypermobility, the Beighton test is commonly used; this requires a professional for the physical examination. The "Five-part questionnaire on hypermobility" is a self-administered tool that allows early identification of joint hypermobility. Objective To carry out the cultural adaptation and test-retest reliability of the "Five-part questionnaire on hypermobility" to the Peruvian context through translation into spanish, linguistic adaptation, and verification of test-retest reliability in students from 13 to 17 years of age and teachers/ad-ministrators from 24 to 60 years of age. Methods A translation and back-translation were performed with two translators and two back-translators, followed by a linguistic adaptation with ten experts. Once the adapted version of the questionnaire was obtained, a comprehensibility analysis was carried out with 50 ...
