The soaring number of natural hazards in recent years due largely to climate change has resulted in an even higher level of investment in flood protection structures. However, such investments tend to be made in the aftermath of disasters. Very little is known about the proactive planning of flood protection investments that account for uncertainties associated with flooding events. Understanding the uncertainties such as “when” to invest on these structures to achieve the most optimal cost-saving amount is outmost important. This study fills this large knowledge gap by developing an investment decision-making assessment framework that determines an optimal timing of flood protection investment options. It combines real options with a net present value analysis to examine managerial flexibility in various investment timing options. Historical data that contain information about river...

In this paper, we present a real in-streaming case of learning about how to program with the z-tree software to design experiments on economic decision making for the members of the NECE Research Unit in Business Sciences, in Portugal. This real case of in-streaming-learning was created to respond the need of a teaching method based on new technologies for people who could be in different parts of the world and with different time availability, but they also need to learn to program z-tree to use it in their experiments. Researchers and students learned the Ztree software applications in business research and economic decision making. Specifically, they learned: What is z-Tree software?; What is z-Tree software for?; What advantages does it have? and What applications can you obtain in business research?; How to get it for free?; Technical requirements; The structure of z-Tree software, ...

This work is a reflection on the relationship between the use of language and presence. The guidelines given by the Royal Spanish Academy, which advocatesthe use of male generically, are questioned. It seems that being a girl is possible  as long as there is not a boy present, at that time her feminine identity is invisible. The rules of the Royal Academy, made from a vision of purely linguistic language, are refuted by several authors who argue that the language has a strong ideological charge. The article gives information about our sexist society, for this reason it defends a language who nomine both sexes, and thus contribute to a culture that values them in the same way; and, therefore, if you opt for a genre in the language, made visible the sex that is marginalized.

This study has as its main objective to develop an analysis of decision making under uncertainty using the real options application in the evaluation of investments in mining projects. It is also proposed to study the behaviour of gold prices, for the specific case of Peru, using historic prices and based on the commodity prices process. The Ornstein-Uhlenbeck model has been used for this. The main result is that to evaluate projects using the real options approach allows to evaluate –in their real magnitude– the financial benefits associated with an investment project, as it takes into account the trinomial of profitability-risk-flexibility. The assessment method using real options makes it possible to structure strategic thinking.

The development of artificial intelligence applications is raising alarms in the educational and professional community. Its potential to paraphrase or write texts make it very tempting to commit dishonest actions. Being a relatively current topic, there are no works that investigate the frequency and uses that students give to these tools in the educational field. The objective of this work was to explore the frequency and perceptions of use of this type of software in high school students of an educational institution. The research was non-experimental and of an exploratory-descriptive nature. The sample consisted of 83 high school students. The survey was used as techniques and the questionnaire as instruments. The results show that more than 62.9% of the students have used these tools to paraphrase and 4.8% to write complete essays, during the course. Most of them positively perceive...

Teaching methods have changed. The case method is an active methodology that seeks, from a real experience, the simulated exploration by the student in order to develop in him the ability to make decisions. Before, teaching was centered on the teacher, today it revolves around the student and the teacher. Therefore, both will learn. For this, it is based on a concept or construct, or theory that is the object of study, which is recreated from a real experience and that allows simulated exploration, in order to develop, in the student, his capacity for decision making. For this, the student must carry out research of a bibliographical nature, about either information on the variables or updates on the object of study, which allow him to learn more about the reality of the unit of analysis. The objective of this work is to make a conceptual review of the case study for pedagogical purposes ...

Motivation and problem definition: A large number of public buildings designed with obsolete criteria are at high seismic risk and in need of structural rehabilitation. The task of selecting the optimal strategy poses important challenges for decision-makers due to the variety of intervention options and the fact that the construction sector is perceived to be one of the most corrupt in the economy. Objective: Given that transparency is an efficient anti-corruption strategy, a protocol is proposed for decision-making in seismic rehabilitation projects of public infrastructure that incorporates criteria which serve to increase transparency in the project development. Methods: Firstly, the literature was reviewed to describe current practices and regulations linked to decision-making in seismic rehabilitation/retrofitting of buildings. Secondly, relevant criteria that should be taken into ...

This research work deals with the real-time implementation of a nonlinear multivariable position control system which uses a sliding mode controller to generate the control forces. Such a control forces will be applied to  translational robot arm of 2 degrees of freedom that consist of a cart mounted on a pair of rails and a link mounted on a pivot point located on the cart. The cart and the link (the arm of the robot) are driven by DC servomotors. Experimentalresults obtained from the designed nonlinear control system will demonstrate that the designed control inputs applied on the servomotors make the outputs (sliding motion of the cart and angular positions of the arm) capable of tracking arbitrary trajectorie.

In real estate contracting, a consumer relationship is established between the real estate supplier and the end consumer. This consumer relationship implies a series of duties for the supplier, such as the duty of information and the duty of suitability. This second duty will be the focus of this paper. Within this framework, the paper will address the following points. First, we will develop, under the lens of the duty of suitability, the problem of real estate reorganization and abusive clauses. As a second point, we will make a problematization of the ad corpus clauses as abusive clauses. Finally, we will review the liability of suppliers’ managers in the real estate field. Throughout the work, we will rely on resolutions of the Instituto Nacional de Defensa de la Competencia y de la Protección de la Propied...

Every year, the increase in human-computer interaction is noticeable. This brings with it the evolution of computer vision to improve this interaction to make it more efficient and effective. This paper presents a CNN-based emotion face recognition model capable to be executed on mobile devices, in real time and with high accuracy. Different models implemented in other research are usually of large sizes, and although they obtained high accuracy, they fail to make predictions in an optimal time, which prevents a fluid interaction with the computer. To improve these, we have implemented a lightweight CNN model trained with the FER2013 dataset to obtain the prediction of seven basic emotions. Experimentation shows that our model achieves an accuracy of 66.52% in validation, can be stored in a 13.23MB file and achieves an average processing time of 14.39ms and 16.06ms, on a tablet and a pho...

In the present work I will try to explain two lines of interpretation of the discussed article that regulates the crime of feminicide in our Penal Code, making known the consequences that would follow from accepting them, in addition to some objections to them. Much of the essay will examine the best interpretation of the criminal offense and then the strongest objection that must be faced; I consider the latter the real problem of feminicide. Finally, I will suggest an interpretation of feminicide and the conclusions will be compiled.

In Peru, there is no clear and uniform criteria to solve cases regarding charges made by financial institutions to customers’ compensation accounts as a means of compensation for debts incurred by the user. In the last ten years, different instances from the Indecopi and Supreme Court have issued contradictory rulings, evidencing a lack of consensus about the legality or illegality of said charges. Faced with this reality, the author wishes to show how the fixation on certain aspects of these cases have made jurists develop inattentional blindness, which lead them to base their reasoning on false premises. With this article, the author hopes to correct this mistake. In order to achieve this, he analyzes what is the duty of care, the difference between the concept of compensation and automatic debit, and, finally, the real disposable nature of remunerations. Thus, he highlights the aspe...

In essence, housing is one of the most important human aspirations, not only the ability to satisfy one of the basic needs of the family in any society, but also the ability to have a home in informal places like our country. Since the construction industry is such an important part of the country's economic system, it is especially important to check the new management systems implemented in major construction industries around the world and produce excellent results. In this article a review of the master's thesis called "Business Plan of the Pachamamita Residential Real Estate Project, Applying Techniques and Tools for Supply Management" is made, as the city of Cusco makes public and private investments, the population changes drastically and income increases, this completes the incorporation to the emerging real estate sector in which the country lives. The city of Cusco in particula...

In this paper we propose a behavioral explanation for the survival of poorly performing asset managers. We argue that, in general, asset managers make use of copious amounts of correct but useless information to convince investors about their supposed superior ability to interpret the market. Their marketing skills and motivational speeches seem to be enough to maintain asset managers in business regardless of the results. We present data that show how bad a number of asset managers can be. We also show how prevalent asset managers’ underperformance is. We argue that some Wall Street professionals are able to fool almost all of their clients most of the time into believing that they add value in the services they provide while the data show that this is not true. What we cannot show with this data is whether managers actually believe they are as good as they claim they are, or are not ...
