Intelligence is a construct of notable impact in our sociocultural context, related to a wide range of conceptual and operational definitions which originate positions that highlights cognitive and abstract elements and emotional and social skills, as well was perspectives that are focused on processes underlying the intelligent performance, such as in the case of executive functions (EFs), which are configured as cognitive processes that make it possible the self-regulation (Miyake & Friedman, 2012). Similarly, there are approaches that give intelligence a relevant and predictive role of school performance, an aspect strengthened by the psychometric perspective, where the concept of intelligence has been closely linked to learning. In this line, we also find the classical perspective of crystallized Intelligence of Cattell (1943), which refers to the knowledge acquired through educa...

The relationship between executive functions (EF), creative personality, and academic performance in Argentine university students was examined. A total of 248 students (M = 22.97 years, SD = 4.43) from various Argentine provinces participated. The Adult Executive Functioning Inventory (ADEXI), the Cognitive Flexibility Scale, the Creative Behavior Scale (ECC), and the Creative Personality Scale (EPC) were used, along with academic performance data and sociodemographic information. Data were collected online through Google Forms and analyzed using Spearman correlations and mediation analysis with robust Maximum Likelihood estimator and Bootstrap. Cognitive flexibility exhibited the most robust correlation with grade point average (r = .281, p < .001), followed by working memory difficulties (r = -.234, p < .001). Creative personality correlated positively with grade point average (...

The paper analyzes the case of Adriana Smith, a pregnant woman who suffered brain death in Georgia, USA, and whose body was kept on life support to preserve the fetus despite her family’s opposition. From the perspective of Peruvian law, it examines the legal definition of death (irreversible cessation of brain activity) and the legal nature of the corpse as a sui generis object, protected by post-mortem rights derived from prior personality. It highlights that, in Peru, the unborn is recognized as a legal subject from conception, with special protection of life, constitutionally and legally acknowledged. Article 10 of the Civil Code allows the use of corpses to prolong human life, requiring that the family be informed but without needing their consent. Thus, preserving pregnancy through the maintenance of bodily functions would be legally valid, although it entails a delicate balance ...

This review article is based on the identity theory developed from neuroscience. It articulates the physical with the psychic, or the behavior with the environment through social interaction. It consists in admitting the presence of consciousness of brain states in human behavior. Objective. To analyze the identity of the individual associating the brain to thinking and decision-making. Method. A meticulous bibliographic review of the subject was carried out. Scientific articles, journalistic reports and neuroscientific essays of the most recent studies were consulted. It allowed to arrive at a succinct conceptual approach of the subject. Results. Neuroscience has shown that cognitive processes and emotions share neural networks and aim to understand the recognition of the identity of the individual with their emotions. These are functional states of the brain that articulate cognitive a...

The Covid-19 pandemic is generating a great psychological impact on university students and the general population, with the family being an important social support element. The objective of this study was to characterize the psychological impact of social isolation in students of a Public University in Lima. The study employed anon-probabilistic sample of 3,960 students, between 16 and 40 years old, where 40.2%were men and 59.8% women. The Scales of Positive and Negative Emotions (PANAS) and Family Functionality-APGAR were applied. The results indicate that the psychological impact was reflected through positive emotions (alert, interested and attentive) and negative emotions (scared, upset and uneasy). It was also found that the family functioning in the context of confinement reflected that the evaluated shared the problems of the house, as well as spending time in the family. Finall...

Background: Although child maltreatment (CM) has been linked to health problems and poor psychosocial functioning, not all individuals exposed to CM develop or experience negative consequences later in life. This suggests that some individuals show resilience after being exposed to CM. However, conclusions have been limited by inconsistent findings across different CM subtypes and resilience domains. Objective: To develop a protocol for conducting a systematic review and meta-analysis to quantify associations between CM (overall and its subtypes) and resilience (global and its multiple domains) in adulthood, and to examine moderators and mediators of these associations. Method: PubMed, PsycINFO, Embase, Scopus, and Web of Science will be searched to identify relevant studies on the association between CM (exposure) and resilience (outcome) in adults (≥ 18 years). Data will be screened ...

Sagittal craniosynostosis is the premature closure of the sagittal suture, causing functional and structural alterations. The treatment is surgical, and there are currently various techniques, which require planning and training to achieve optimal results. We present the case of a 1-year-old male with abnormal anteroposterior growth of the skull, indicating brain tomography without contrast, showing sagittal synostosis. Surgical planning of the technique to be developed is carried out using a real-scale personalized 3D model. The patient progresses well and is discharged. Finally, essential 3D cloning technology for neurosurgical education and development allows access to high-precision, low-cost tactile models that improve the quality of craniosynostosis management.
