The aim of the study was to analyze the psychological variables that predict problem gambling in 173 engineering students, men and women, from the first years of study at a private university in Lima, Perú. The age range was 16 to 23 years (M = 17.9, SD = 1.2).The measures were the Personality Inventory NEO FFI (NEO Five-Factor Inventory, Costa & McCrae, 1992), the Academic Stress Inventory (SISCO, Barraza, 2007a), the Time Management Behavior Questionnaire (TMBQ, Macan, 1994) version translated into Spanish by García-Ros and Pérez-González (2012), and the South Oaks Gambling Screen, Revised for Adolescents (SOGS-RA, Becoña, 1997). The results indicated that the management of free time is a moderate predictor of problem gambling (standardized coefficient = -.33), followed by the agreeableness personality´s factor (standardized coefficient = -.29), while academic stress showed l...

The present study investigates the predictive aspects of the work-family conflict in professionals in the hospital context. Such contexts are commonly investigated in terms of health domains and organizational factors, with effects on aspects of work-family interaction still little explored. Research on the work-family relationship is important both for organizations, for families, professionals, and society. Therefore, a survey study was conducted, with 470 workers, with a mean age of 34.50 years and an average years working in the profession of 8.0 years. Participants answered a survey composed of questions and psychological scales. The results pointed out that aspects of family interference at work were predicted by age, career time, intention to leave the organization and organizational incivility, and work to interfere in the family also involved aspects of workload, work satisfacti...

Nowadays, an engineer’s work consists more and more of obtaining mathematical models of the studied processes. Great part of the literature referring to system identification deals with how to find polynomial models as Prediction Error Methods (PEM) and Instrumental Variable Methods (IVM). In case of complex systems, the state space model appears as an alternative to PEM and IVM models. For multivariable systems, these methods provide reliable state space models directly from input and output data. As systems of large dimensions are usually found in industry, the application of subspace identification algorithms in this field is very promising. Currently the subspaceidentification models Multivariable Output Error State sPace (MOESP) and Numerical algorithms for Subspace State Space System IDentification (N4SID), are topic of study. The objective of this work is to implement th...

This article shows a comparison of confirmed cases and death from Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), among South American countries, considering cases per million inhabitants and standardizing the time of infection, from the day of confirmation of case zero to each country. The objective is to more uniformly evaluate the spread of this virus and thus evaluate the result of the measures taken by governments against COVID-19, since various research centers show comparisons without taking into account the proportion of inhabitants, nor the time (days) of contagion between countries. In addition, we provide short-term predictions and an estimate of the end of confirmed cases in the most affected countries.

Introduction: Academic self-efficacy drives achievement and student well-being; however, brief, psychometrically rigorous measures tailored to complex university courses remain scarce. Existing long‑form scales, although thorough, are often impractical for time-constrained research and classroom diagnostics. Objective: to develop and validate the five‑item Self‑Efficacy Scale in Academic Mastery (SSAM). Method: Items rooted in the Social Learning Theory were reviewed by experts (n=6). Psychometric testing used two university samples (N₁ = 180, N₂ = 742) plus the PHQ‑4. Results: Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses supported a unidimensional structure with high reliability (α=.91; ω=.92) and good fit (CFI/TLI>.90; RMSEA/SRMR<.08). The scale showed configural, metric, and scalar invariance across the sex and academic status groups. Graded Response Model paramete...

The original articles section begins with the study conducted by Joel Seminario-Quiñones, Juan Walter Pomahuacre Carhuayal, Yuri Chávez, Heber Gómez, Roxana Portocarrero, Giuliana Gamero-Vega, Ada Calderón-Giraldo, Elizabeth López, Martín Castro and Juan Carlos Bazo-Álvarez on the psychometric properties of the Inventory of Study Habits CASM-85 in high school students from four Peruvian cities. It concludes that the CASM-85 short form (45 items) has shown better psychometric properties than its original full form. Second, Gina Pamela Pancorbo Valdivia, Mathias Schmitz, Ian Nightingale Ferrer, Andrés Manuel Palacios Agurto and Agustín Espinosa report on a study that examines stereotypical representations and prejudice towards different Peruvian social groups by high-socioeconomic-status group members from Lima, who identify and value White Peruvians as a high-status group, compet...
